Season 1 Episode Guide



Episode 1: The Dragon's Call
A naive young Merlin is sent to Camelot, the home of the King of Albion, by his mother and straight away witnesses the execution of a young man who has broken King Uther's laws by using magic. Merlin is aware that he has certain magical abilities and when he uses these to save court physician Gaius from falling to his death, he is warned to keep them a secret. Merlin then manages to get into trouble by insulting King Uther's son, Prince Arthur. He finds himself in the stocks, which is where he meets maid servant Gwen. Merlin is then drawn beneath the castle where he finds the Great Dragon who Uther has imprisoned. The Dragon is the last of it's kind and informs Merlin of his true destiny. The young wizard must use his abilities to protect Prince Arthur, the heir to the throne.

Episode 2: Valiant
Arrogant Knight, Valiant gets a wizard to make him a shield painted with magical and deadly snakes in readiness for an annual sword tournament which is to be held in Camelot. After being told of the power of the snakes, Valiant uses them to kill the wizard.

Episode 3: The Mark Of Nimueh
When Camelot is confronted by a strange and deadly plague the only explanation suggests that magic is involved. While Merlin and Gaius try to find a cure, King Uther sends Prince Arthur to find whoever is responsible for the plague.

Episode 4: The Poisoned Chalice
The evil sorceress, Nimueh arrives at Camelot. She manages to get close to Merlin and tricks the young wizard into drinking a poisoned chalice. As a result Merlin falls dangerously ill.

Episode 5: Lancelot
As Merlin is saved from a terrifying flying monster by a heroic stranger Lancelot. Eager to repay him, Merlin attempts to get Lancelot made a Knight of Camelot. There is, however, one drawback: Lancelot is not of noble blood, and changing destiny is a very risky past time.

Episode 6: A Remedy To Cure All Ills
When the Lady Morgana is struck down with a mysterious illness, Gaius is at a loss for a cure. Thankfully a new physician, Edwin Muirden, is on hand to bring the King's ward back from the brink.

Episode 7: The Gates Of Avalon
Problems arise when Prince Arthur encounters a pretty damsel called Sophia and her father, Aulfric. He saves them from some bandits but is unaware that the whole incident has been staged.

Episode 8: The Beginning Of The End
A Druid and his son are betrayed by a friend in Camelot and the Druid is captured by King Uther's guards. However, Merlin hears telepathic calls for help from the man's son and rescues him.

Episode 9: Excalibur
The time has come for Prince Arthur to be officially declared Uther's heir to the throne of Camelot! However, the ceremony is interrupted by the strange appearance of a black knight.

Episode 10: The Moment Of Truth
Merlin must return home to the village of his birth to save it from a group of ruthless bandits. He manages to get Arthur, Gwen and Morgana to help him.

Episode 11: The Labyrinth Of Gedref
Prince Arthur goes out hunting, kills a unicorn and returns to Camelot a hero. However, Merlin is not so pleased by the death of a magical being.

Episode 12: To Kill The King
A sorcerer called Tauren arrives at Camelot and he tricks Gwen's father Tom into helping him to turn lead into gold. The two men are discovered by Uther and although the dangerous Tauren escapes, Tom is arrested.

Episode 13: Le Morte D'Arthur
When Arthur and his men go on a hunting trip they encounter a monster which has the head of a serpent and the body of a lion. Back at Camelot Gaius informs Arthur and Uther that the creature is 'The Questing Beast' a monster from the old religion whose bite is deadly. Morgana also has a foreboding dream about Prince Arthur.

Season 2 Episode Guide

      

Episode: 1 The Curse Of Cornelius Sigan
When a large tomb filled with treasure is discovered deep beneath the castle, Gaius tries to convince King Uther to seal it up as he believes the tomb belongs to an evil sorcerer, Cornelius Sigan who once swore he would destroy Camelot. Believing that the tales of the sorcerer are no more than a myth, Uther claims the treasure.

Meanwhile, Merlin's position as Arthur's closest lieutenant is threatened by the appearance of a new servant, Cedric (MacKenzie Crook). Cedric claims to have saved Arthur from a huge wild boar and in return the Prince gives him a position in the castle.

Episode 2: The Once And Future Queen
With the annual Camelot Jousting tournament coming up Arthur realises that his fellow knights have been taking it easy on him because he is the heir to the throne. So he decides to change places with a peasant so that he can prove he really is the greatest knight at the tournament.

Meanwhile, the treacherous King Odin (Fintan McKeown) has enlisted an assassin called Myror (Adrian Lester) to kill Prince Arthur who he believes has killed his son.

As part of Arthur's deception in the tournament Merlin helps him to go undercover at Gwen's house. As far as everyone apart from Gwen and Merlin are concerned Arthur is away from Camelot.

Episode 3: The Nightmare Begins
When Morgana believes that she has managed to set fire to her own chamber through magic she tells Gaius of her fears. Gaius chooses not to tell her the truth about her abilities but Merlin wants to help her.

Uther decides that magic has caused Morgana's accident and decides that Arthur and his men should hunt down the magical Druids in Camelot who might be responsible. Merlin helps to save a woman with connections to the Druids and in return she agrees to help the young wizard.

Episode 4: Lancelot And Guinevere
Morgana and Gwen are attacked while out in the forest by barbarians led by Kendrick (Michael Nardone). Their bodyguards are killed by the outlaws, but Morgana and Gwen are able to out wit Kendrick and attempt an escape.

While running away Gwen is injured and captured while Morgana flees. As Kendrick has failed in his task to kidnap Morgana he decides not to kill Gwen but to persuade his master, Hengist (James Cosmo) that she is the King's ward and can be ransomed.

Arthur comes across Morgana and also sees a ransom note that has been left, King Uther refuses to pay a ransom for a mere servant believing that the outlaws would have already killed her.

Episode 5: Beauty and The Beast, Part One
The beautiful Lady Catrina (Sarah Parish) and her servant Jonas (Adam Godley) arrive at Camelot and Catrina claims that they are the only survivors of an attack on her father's kingdom.

Catrina makes an impression with King Uther, who becomes quite smitten with her. However, Merlin and Gaius become suspicious. Gaius remembers treating Catrina when she was a child and diagnosing her with an incurable bone disease. However, Uther accepts Catrina's story of a miraculous recovery.

When Merlin goes to her chamber he is aware of a strange smell and then believes that he may have seen that Jonas has a tail. Merlin then follows Catrina and becomes aware that she is a hideous troll. Gaius goes back to Uther with all that he has found out but the King does not believe it.
     
Episode 6: Beauty and The Beast, Part Two
Lady Catrina has now married King Uther and become his Queen. However, its not long before she and her servant Jonas are plotting how to gain real power over the kingdom.

Using the magical medallion to cloud Uther's judgment Catrina persuades the King that Prince Arthur is to weak to rule the kingdom in the future and so his position of Crown Prince is taken away. Catrina will then be heir to the throne of Camelot.

Before there is a ceremony to make it official Merlin and Gaius become aware of how Catrina is disguising herself as a troll and so Merlin steals her potion. As a result Catrina's true form is revealed after the ceremony.
     
Episode 7: The Witchfinder
When a woman witnesses the results of some of Merlin's magic Uther becomes even more determined to rid his kingdom of sorcery and brings in an infamous witch hunter Aredian (Charles Dance).

Morgana is fearful that her secret will be discovered and Gaius is concerned for himself and Merlin. Aredian starts bringing young woman in front of the King who have supposedly witnessed magic in Camelot. The witch hunter makes out that magic is practised all over Camelot.

Merlin is identified as a witness to the original magic and when he can't corroborate the woman's version of events, Aredian starts to suspect him. Aredian is known to Gaius already and Uther tells Arthur that the physician did once practise magic.

Episode 8: The Sins Of The Father
A mysterious warrior arrives in Camelot and manages to kill five men on the way to gaining entry to Uther's hall. Once there the knight challenges Prince Arthur to a duel.

Arthur and the others are surprised when it turns out the knight is in fact a woman called Morgause (Emilia Fox). Arthur accepts the duel and realises that he can't afford to go easy on her just because she is a girl. Also, Morgana feels that she recognises Morgause from somewhere.

Arthur loses the duel but before Morgause delivers a fatal blow she gives the Prince the opportunity to live if he will go on a quest for her. Arthur has no choice but to accept.

While treating Morgause for an injury, Gaius notices a bracelet and informs Uther that the woman must be the half-sister of Morgana and from the house of Gorlois. Uther presumed that she had been killed in infancy, but Gaius confesses that he helped the child escape by taking her to priestesses of the old ways. Before leaving Camelot Morgause tells Arthur that she knew his mother.

Episode 9: The Lady Of The Lake
Merlin and Gaius come across a Druid girl, Freya (Laura Donnelly) who is being held in the cage of a bounty hunter called Halig (Richard Ridings).

Gaius warns Merlin from helping the girl but the young wizard doesn't listen and rescues her. He takes her to a place in the castle where she can't be found and gets food for her. Merlin and Freya start to make a connection and Merlin discusses helping her to escape.

Halig informs King Uther that the girl is missing and then sets out to find her. He suspects that Merlin is involved but Arthur stops the bounty hunter. Halig tells Uther that the Druids had turned the girl out of their camp because she was cursed.

Episode 10: Sweet Dreams
Uther is holding peace talks in Camelot and the rulers of five kingdoms arrive. Among them is King Olaf (Mark Lewis Jones) and his daughter Vivian (Georgia Moffett) as well as King Alined (David Schofield) and his jester, Trickler (Kevin Eldon).
King Alined is actually wanting war and devices a plan with Trickler to get Arthur to fall in love with Olaf's beautiful daughter and thus create friction between Olaf and Uther which would then lead to war between their two kingdoms. During their first meeting Arthur finds Vivian to be too rude for his liking.

Uther holds a feast for his guests and while Trickler amazes everybody with his magic, he also manages to cleverly steals a strand of Vivian's hair. With this he makes a love potion, which he then proceeds to drop into Arthur's eyes as he sleeps.
     
Episode 11: The Witch's Quickening
A ruthless warlock named Alvarr (Joseph Mawle) wants to destroy Camelot and return magic to the kingdom. To achieve his aims Alvarr needs to find the magical relic, Crystal of Neahtid, which was a powerful symbol of the Old Religion. While Alvarr can't use its power himself, he believes the Druid boy, Mordred (Asa Butterfield) can use it to further their cause.

Episode 12: The Fires Of Idirsholas
When the fires of Idirsholas burn for the first time in 300 years, Gaius fears a sorcerer has revived the deadly Knights of Medhir. Arthur and his knights, along with Merlin, ride out to face the supernatural Knights but are over powered. The Prince and the young wizard barely escape with their lives, but when they return to Camelot they find everyone in Camelot is under a strange enchantment. However, when they come across Morgana they realise that she is the only one who is alright, but does that mean that she is be behind the magic which threatens the Kingdom?
     
Episode 13: The Last Dragonlord
When the Great Dragon escapes his prison under Camelot he decides to take his revenge on Uther. With the castle crumbling and Arthur and his knights appearing defeated, Gaius realises that only a Dragonlord could save them. However, most of these people have been wiped out. There is only one who Gaius believes might still be alive, but can Merlin and Arthur find Balinor (John Lynch) before it is too late?

Season 3 Episode Guide



Episode 1: The Tears of Uther Pendragon, Part 1
A year after her disappearance and when almost all hope is lost, Morgana returns to Camelot. While Merlin is afraid she might remember the circumstances of her disappearance and give him away in front of the king, a delighted Uther announces a banquet to celebrate. However, soon afterwards evil magic starts to take hold of the king's mind, putting the safety of Camelot at risk as he is consumed with hallucinations and enemies reach his door. Merlin suspects Morgana is behind the enchantment but his search for the truth puts his life in peril while Arthur is forced to take control and face new foes on his own. Will they succeed to rescue the king and Camelot from destruction?

Episode 2: The Tears of Uther Pendragon, Part 2
With the help of the Great Dragon, Merlin manages to return to Camelot only to find out that is it on the verge of invasion: Morgause and Cenred have teamed up and plot against a weakened Uther. Cenred's initial reluctance is won over by the fact that they count on an ally within Camelot walls who will ensure the castle is taken. Uther is unable to rule which forces Arthur to step up front and defend the citadel agains Cenred's powerful army. With the help of Morgause and to make things worse, Morgana plays a deadly card and summons a skeleton army to wreak havoc within the castle walls. Camelot's fate rests once again on Arthur's shoulders and Merlin's magic as they fight in their own way to hold off both an army of the living and an army of the dead. Will they manage to succeed?

Episode 3: Goblin's Gold
When Merlin comes across a secret chamber, he accidentally releases a goblin. The mischievous little creature possesses Gaius, making the wise and renowned court physician turn into a shadow of his former self, quickly developing a taste for gold, ale and magical jokes. To make things worse, the king suddenly becomes bald and a nasty scourge of flatulence hits the royal household. Will Merlin be able to figure out the source of all troubles, return the gobblin back to where he came from and put an end to the havoc before any real damage is done?

Episode 4: Gwaine
Merlin and Arthur find themselves outnumbered in a bar fight but an enigmatic young man helps them win. The man’s name is Gwaine and he risks his own life to protect Arthur but during his act of bravery he is seriously wounded. The Prince decides to take him back to Camelot where he could make a recovery with Gaius' help. Gwaine immediately gets to work: drinking, flirting with the ladies and causing lots of trouble for Merlin who has been instructed to look after him. However, when two unscrupulous knights seem to plot to murder the Prince, will Merlin and Gwaine be able to stop them and save Arthur?

Episode 5: The Crystal Cave
After an unexpected meeting with the enigmatic old sorcerer Taliesin, the wizard takes Merlin to the crystal cave allowing him to witness a glimpse of the future. However, this gesture turns out to be more of a curse than a gift when, much to his horror, Merlin sees Morgana set to kill Uther. The young warlock knows he must do his best to try and stop the future from playing out. But changing the pages of destiny is a very dangerous game and his actions end up having fatal consequences. With the whole of Camelot in a state of grief, will Merlin be able to change the course of destiny and undo the damage he has caused, or will it be too late?

Episode 6: The Changeling
Uther pressures Arthur into an arranged marriage with a visiting princess, Elena, though Merlin soon has reservations after discovering that Elena may not exactly be who she claims to be. As he tries to uncover the princess' dark secret, he learns that Elena's nanny is a Pixie. But what are their motivations? Who do they work for? And most important of all, what benefit do they get from her marriage to Arthur, the heir to the throne of Camelot? Will Merlin be able to get to the bottom of it all and prevent Arthur from making the biggest mistake of his life?

Episode 7: The Castle of Fyrien
Gwen faces an impossible dilemma when she is forced to choose between saving the life of Elyan, her estranged brother and only sibling or Arthur's, Camelot's prince and the love of her life. When one of them is certain to find death at the hands of Cenred, who will Gwen choose?

Once again, loyalty, love and friendships are tested to the limit as Arthur, Merlin and Gwen are forced to put their minds together to try and find a way out of the cruel quandary. Morgana and Morgause, in turn, will do their best ruin their plans.

Will good conquer evil or will Gwen end up losing someone she loves again?

Episode 8: The Eye Of The Phoenix
Arthur embarks alone on a quest to prove himself worthy of the Camelot throne by retrieving the Golden Trident from the Fisher King. With the Prince beyond the protection of the citadel, Morgana takes the opportunity to use her dark magic. She gives him a precious bracelet that contains a Phoenix Eye, insisting that he wears it at all times for protection. However, the magical jewel takes away Arthur's life force and he is left defenceless in the Fisher King's perilous realm. With the help of Gwaine, will Merlin be able to reach Arthur in time and fulfil his own quest to protect the future king of Camelot?

Episode 9: Love In The Time Of Dragons
Merlin is pleased to get acquainted with a different side of his mentor when Alice, an old flame of Gaius's, arrives in Camelot. However, when the warlock discovers that she is under the influence of a Manticore, a creature from the Old Religion, Merlin has no other choice but to tell the physician about Alice's evil scheme.

Blinded by love, Gaius refuses to believe Merlin's reveal and their close bond suffers the consequence as both friends fall out.

With the King in danger and all evidence of the wicked plot pointing to Alice and the mean magical creature that has possessed her, will Merlin be able to make Gaius see sense before it is too late?

Episode 10: Queen Of Hearts
When Morgana is tormented by dreams in which Guinevere becomes Queen of Camelot, Morgause encourages her to reveal Arthur and Gwen's courtship to Uther in the knowledge that he will do whatever it takes to stop his son from marrying a serving girl. As a result, Uther banishes Gwen from the kingdom forcing Arthur to make the ultimate sacrifice of leaving Camelot with her. Determined to stop the loving couple, Morgana frames Gwen for the scandalous crime of enchanting the Prince. With destiny once again at stake, Merlin will be compelled to risk everything to save Gwen from a gruesome death.

Episode11: The Sorcerer's Shadow
Camelot's legendary tournament only has one rule: there are no rules whatsoever. Terrifying warriors start to fill the mythical city, Gilli between them. Despite his small stature, Gilli is ready to join the action and committed to achieve victory with a secret weapon to help him: magic. When Gilli begins to realise the full extent of his powers, Merlin becomes torn since his new friend is putting his own life in danger as well as threatening the very heart of Camelot with his actions. Will Merlin be able to make Gilli see sense before it's too late?

Episode 12: The Coming Of Arthur, Part 1
Arthur and Merlin embark on a dangerous mission to capture the Cup of Life, a powerful magical artifact that carries the gift of immortality. However, before they are able to retrieve the Cup they fall prey to Jarl, an unscrupulous slave trader. They manage to escape when a trusted friend comes to their rescue but with Jarl's help, the Cup of Life ends up in Morgause's hands. Now that the dreadful sisters count on an immortal army at their disposal, will Morgause and Morgana overthrow Uther once and for all?

Episode 13: The Coming Of Arthur, Part 2
Will Arthur be able to save Camelot from the evil Morgana? Morgana, newly crowned as Queen of Camelot, begins a reign of terrible evil over the innocent citizens of the kingdom. Counting on Morgause and her immortal army at her command all hope seems lost for Uther, who is forced to witness how his kingdom crumble under the unimaginable cruelty of his own daughter. Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Camelot, Arthur recovers his strength and plans a counter attack with the help of a few loyals at his side: Gwaine, Lancelot, Elyan and Percival. However, Merlin is aware that not even a skilful warrior like Arthur can defeat an immortal foe without magic. Will he be able to reclaim the great sword Excalibur from the Lake of Avalon in time to save the lives of those he cares the most about?
