Merlin Season 2 Episode Guide (update)

Episode 1 ~ The Curse Of Cornelius Sigan
When a large tomb filled with treasure is discovered deep beneath the castle, Gaius tries to convince King Uther to seal it up as he believes the tomb belongs to an evil sorcerer, Cornelius Sigan who once swore he would destroy Camelot. Believing that the tales of the sorcerer are no more than a myth, Uther claims the treasure.

Meanwhile, Merlin's position as Arthur's closest lieutenant is threatened by the appearance of a new servant, Cedric (MacKenzie Crook). Cedric claims to have saved Arthur from a huge wild boar and in return the Prince gives him a position in the castle.

Episode 2 ~ The Once And Future Queen
With the annual Camelot Jousting tournament coming up Arthur realises that his fellow knights have been taking it easy on him because he is the heir to the throne. So he decides to change places with a peasant so that he can prove he really is the greatest knight at the tournament.

Meanwhile, the treacherous King Odin (Fintan McKeown) has enlisted an assassin called Myror (Adrian Lester) to kill Prince Arthur who he believes has killed his son.

As part of Arthur's deception in the tournament Merlin helps him to go undercover at Gwen's house. As far as everyone apart from Gwen and Merlin are concerned Arthur is away from Camelot.

Episode 3 ~ The Nightmare Begins
When Morgana believes that she has managed to set fire to her own chamber through magic she tells Gaius of her fears. Gaius chooses not to tell her the truth about her abilities but Merlin wants to help her.

Uther decides that magic has caused Morgana's accident and decides that Arthur and his men should hunt down the magical Druids in Camelot who might be responsible. Merlin helps to save a woman with connections to the Druids and in return she agrees to help the young wizard.

Episode 4 ~ Lancelot And Guinevere
Morgana and Gwen are attacked while out in the forest by barbarians led by Kendrick (Michael Nardone). Their bodyguards are killed by the outlaws, but Morgana and Gwen are able to out wit Kendrick and attempt an escape.

While running away Gwen is injured and captured while Morgana flees. As Kendrick has failed in his task to kidnap Morgana he decides not to kill Gwen but to persuade his master, Hengist (James Cosmo) that she is the King's ward and can be ransomed.

Arthur comes across Morgana and also sees a ransom note that has been left, King Uther refuses to pay a ransom for a mere servant believing that the outlaws would have already killed her.

Episode 5 ~ Beauty and The Beast, Part One
The beautiful Lady Catrina (Sarah Parish) and her servant Jonas (Adam Godley) arrive at Camelot and Catrina claims that they are the only survivors of an attack on her father's kingdom.

Catrina makes an impression with King Uther, who becomes quite smitten with her. However, Merlin and Gaius become suspicious. Gaius remembers treating Catrina when she was a child and diagnosing her with an incurable bone disease. However, Uther accepts Catrina's story of a miraculous recovery.

When Merlin goes to her chamber he is aware of a strange smell and then believes that he may have seen that Jonas has a tail. Merlin then follows Catrina and becomes aware that she is a hideous troll. Gaius goes back to Uther with all that he has found out but the King does not believe it.

Episode 6 ~ Beauty and The Beast, Part Two
Lady Catrina has now married King Uther and become his Queen. However, its not long before she and her servant Jonas are plotting how to gain real power over the kingdom.

Using the magical medallion to cloud Uther's judgment Catrina persuades the King that Prince Arthur is to weak to rule the kingdom in the future and so his position of Crown Prince is taken away. Catrina will then be heir to the throne of Camelot.

Before there is a ceremony to make it official Merlin and Gaius become aware of how Catrina is disguising herself as a troll and so Merlin steals her potion. As a result Catrina's true form is revealed after the ceremony.

Episode 7 ~ The Witchfinder
When a woman witnesses the results of some of Merlin's magic Uther becomes even more determined to rid his kingdom of sorcery and brings in an infamous witch hunter Aredian (Charles Dance).

Morgana is fearful that her secret will be discovered and Gaius is concerned for himself and Merlin. Aredian starts bringing young woman in front of the King who have supposedly witnessed magic in Camelot. The witch hunter makes out that magic is practised all over Camelot.

Merlin is identified as a witness to the original magic and when he can't corroborate the woman's version of events, Aredian starts to suspect him. Aredian is known to Gaius already and Uther tells Arthur that the physician did once practise magic.

Episode 8 ~ The Sins Of The Father
A mysterious warrior arrives in Camelot and manages to kill five men on the way to gaining entry to Uther's hall. Once there the knight challenges Prince Arthur to a duel.

Arthur and the others are surprised when it turns out the knight is in fact a woman called Morgause (Emilia Fox). Arthur accepts the duel and realises that he can't afford to go easy on her just because she is a girl. Also, Morgana feels that she recognises Morgause from somewhere.

Arthur loses the duel but before Morgause delivers a fatal blow she gives the Prince the opportunity to live if he will go on a quest for her. Arthur has no choice but to accept.

While treating Morgause for an injury, Gaius notices a bracelet and informs Uther that the woman must be the half-sister of Morgana and from the house of Gorlois. Uther presumed that she had been killed in infancy, but Gaius confesses that he helped the child escape by taking her to priestesses of the old ways. Before leaving Camelot Morgause tells Arthur that she knew his mother.

Halig informs King Uther that the girl is missing and then sets out to find her. He suspects that Merlin is involved but Arthur stops the bounty hunter. Halig tells Uther that the Druids had turned the girl out of their camp because she was cursed.
