Season 2



Episode 1: I Can Manage
Mel is feeling the pressure of balancing the massive home renovation with her duties at work. Determined to have the house fixed as quickly as possible, Joe convinces a reluctant Mel to put him in charge of the construction. But Joe's management style only makes things worse. Meanwhile, Lennox is thrilled when her school wants to put on her original play, but the reaction is not quite what she had hoped.

Episode 2: If You Can't Stand the Heat
Mel is charmed by her "cabinet guy," but is less charmed by Joe's reaction to him, leading them to a fight about being too involved in each other's lives. However, their decision to give each other privacy does not turn out as planned. And Lennox is horrified at being appointed to her school's "spirit committee," until she meets the club's president.

Episode 3: Good to Go
Mel and Joe are shocked to discover that Lennox's boyfriend Aidan spent the night, and Joe is even more taken aback at Mel's reaction to the situation. Meanwhile, Ryder's girlfriend Holly declares it's time for him to start shaving.

Episode 4: All Up in My Business
Joe takes over Mel's finances and becomes convinced that her credit card statements reveal she is having an affair with a married man. Lennox tries to get along with her friend's new boyfriend, but is at a loss when he reveals his crush on her, and Ryder stresses about what to get Holly for her birthday.

Episode 5: The Knockout
Mel punches a man when she sees him hassling Ryder, leading her to become known as " Battling Burke," which delights Mel's campaign manager (Mazar) and helps her image. But Mel's new persona has unintended effect on Ryder. And Lennox attempts to befriend a new girl at school, but the girl takes advantage of Lennox's kindness, which dismays Joe.

Episode 6: Breaking Up Is Hard to Do
Mel wants to dump her boyfriend, but she needs Joe to improve the guy's self-esteem beforehand. Elsewhere, Holly asks Lennox to keep a secret from Ryder.

Episode 7: Mixed Doubles
Joe tells Mel she is way too picky when it comes to dating, and offers to set her up with his friend. But in return Joe wants Mel to help him score a date with her charming friend Ariel, leading to an uncomfortable double date for the group. Also, Lennox decides to start her own blog called Lennox Explains It All after being kicked off the school website, but it consumes all of her time, leaving her boyfriend Haskell feeling ignored.

Episode 8: The Donor
Mel's pal wants Joe to be her sperm donor, and Mel and Joe try to change her mind. Elsewhere, Lennox and Haskell purchase a rare book, but they clash about how to proceed with their investment.

Episode 9: Eat, Pray, Date
Mel's date thinks he's eating her cooking, but the food is prepared by Joe. Elsewhere, Lennox's friend becomes interested in Ryder.

Episode 10: Pretty Big Liars
Ryder decides he wants to invest in stock, and turns to Joe for advice. But Joe is adamant that Ryder's stock pick is a bad idea and decides to show him how risky investing can be by not buying it. But when the stock turns out to be a winner, Joe scrambles to hide the truth from Ryder. Meanwhile, Mel is smitten with her new boyfriend Sam, who happens to be Haskell's father, but must keep her happiness under wraps when Lennox and Haskell break up.

Episode 11: A Pair of Sneakers
Despite Mel's objections, Joe teaches Lennox how to drive—but then Lennox has a minor car accident and Joe tries to hide it. Meanwhile, Mel and Ryder have a secret of their own.

Episode 12: Mother of All Problems
Mel is displeased with the advice Joe gives her mom, who's in town for a rare visit. Elsewhere, Lennox's gym teacher mistakenly thinks Lennox is pregnant.

Episode 13: Wherefore Art Lennox
Lennox gets a job with Mel and falls for an intern who reports to Mel's political rival. Elsewhere, Joe does some consulting work online.

Episode 14: From Russia With Love
Joe's Russian girlfriend visits him and causes tension in the household. Meanwhile, Ryder limits his diet to vending-machine food to comply with an experiment Lennox is doing.

Episode 15: Mel Marries Joe
Mel is shocked when Joe offers to marry Elena in order to keep her in the country, and refuses to take part in his scheme. But when it looks like everything will fall apart, Mel takes charge in order to protect both of them. But will Joe really go through with the wedding?

Season 3



Episode 1: Works for Me
Mel tries to convince Joe of his importance to her and the family after she learns that he has been looking for another job.

Episode 2: Toxic Parents
Melissa and Joe are both happy in their new relationships, until they discover they are dating a divorced couple. Soon, they are fighting over custody of the ex-couple's son.
Meanwhile, Lennox decides to get a tattoo after her boyfriend Zander forbids her. And Ryder is surprised to find he actually misses school.

Episode 3: Inside Job
Joe paints Mel into a corner, forcing her to get him a job at City Hall with fellow City Council member Paul. Once there, Joe gets wrapped up in another potential financial scandal, leading to all sorts of headaches for Mel. Meanwhile, Lennox is torn between her boyfriend Zander and her hot co-star in the school play, Archer.

Episode 4: Can't Hardly Wait
At the outset of an exciting new relationship for Joe, Mel makes him consider the virtues of waiting to have sex. Zander and Ryder work on a graphic novel, but Lennox assumes editorial responsibilities and takes the fun out of the project.

Episode 5: Oh Brother
Mel's childhood friend, Austin, moves back to Toledo, and he and Mel quickly take their old friendship to a new level. But Joe starts to think that Mel and Austin may in fact be related, and schemes to break them up. Meanwhile, enterprising Lennox sells ads on her blog to earn extra money, but is horrified to discover her first sponsor may participate in unfair labor practices.

Episode 6: The Truth Hurts
Joe accidentally injures Mel's boyfriend, Austin (guest star Trevor Donovan), during a competitive game of pool. Mel accuses Joe of doing it on purpose to ruin her romantic weekend getaway.

Meanwhile, Joe invites a nerdy kid to join Ryder in his home school studies, and Lennox takes to psychoanalyzing everyone in the house.

Episode 7: The Unkindest Cut
Mel is taken aback when she finds out that Austin may not share her vision of their future and is resolute in his belief he never wants children. Trying to convince Mel not to give up on her dream of a family, Joe introduces her to the neighbor's baby. Meanwhile, Joe's new girlfriend is only interested in a physical connection, which leaves him confused and wanting more in the relationship. And, Lennox can't motivate herself to write her college entrance paper, so she hires Ryder to be her full time babysitter until she does.

Episode 8: The Unfriending
After Joe convinces Mel to dump her needy friend Anita, he secretly starts dating her.

Meanwhile, Lennox gets super competitive and becomes determined to beat Zander's test scores. And Ryder is bummed when all of his friends delete him from their social media sites.

Episode 9: Something Happened
Mel desperately wants to be the cool aunt after she discovers that Lennox has taken her relationship with Zander to the next level. But Joe just wants to kill Zander.

Episode 10: Good Morning Toledo
Mel and Joe are invited to co-host a week of “Good Morning Toledo” which Mel thinks will help her earn voters. Their constant bickering on air garners rave reviews with the audience and they’re an instant hit. But when the secret to their popularity turns out to be talking a little too personally about Lennox and Ryder, they have to decide if fame or family is more important.

Episode 11: Fast Times
When his apartment needs to undergo emergency renovations, Mel invites her new boyfriend, Noah, to temporarily move in with her, accelerating their relationship. When she starts to change her personality, Joe questions whether Mel is allowing Noah to know the "real" Mel Burke. Meanwhile, Lennox gets her dream internship at the local newspaper, but has a hard time actually waking up to get to work.

Episode 12: Bad Influence
When Joe and Ryder sell Mel's old belongings, they inadvertently sell a very personal item of hers. Desperate to reclaim her property, Mel and Joe turn to crime to get it back.

Meanwhile, Lennox's new pen pal is eager to meet her in person, after his release from prison.

Episode 13: Teach Your Children
Joe works out an alternative payment plan when he begins dating the mom (Krista Allen) of one of his students, which unintentionally earns him a reputation among the other mothers in the neighborhood as a tutor-prostitute.

Episode 14: What Happens in Jersey ... (Part 1)
In failing health, Joe's grandmother Sofia begs him to come visit her one last time for her birthday, and to bring his beautiful wife Tiffany along. Since Joe never got around to telling "Nona" he and Tiffany got divorced, he's forced to beg Mel to pretend to be his trampy ex. Soon, Joe and Mel are on the road to Jersey with Lennox and Ryder tagging along.

Once there, they meet Joe's colorful mother Gloria, his sister Theresa and the formidable Sofia. Sensing something is amiss with her grandson and his "wife," Sofia resorts to trickery to see them repair their marriage by any means necessary. What started out as a silly ruse soon makes a wrong turn, and leaves Joe and Mel confused as to where they stand with each other.

Meanwhile, Joe's nephew Marco makes the moves on Lennox. And Ryder enjoys being treated like a king until he's asked to perform a favor for the family.

Episode 16: A New Kind of Christmas
Jaime Pressly drops by as Mel's sister Meredith, who comes home from prison on furlough to celebrate Christmas with the kids and Mel, and seems unruffled by Joe's obvious animosity towards her.

Episode 17: A Decent Proposal
In picking up where the summer cliff-hanger left off, Joe rushes home to tell Mel that he has feelings for her after their romantic night together in New Jersey. When he arrives, he's shocked to find Austin (guest star Trevor Donovan) has shown up and wants to give his relationship with Mel another try. Deciding he can't stay and watch them fall in love all over again, Joe quits. Meanwhile, Lennox plots to get Joe and Mel together and Ryder gets sick from his own cooking.

Episode 18: Independence Day
Mel feels that it's a good idea for her and Joe to take things slow. Taking her literally, Joe finds another job, working so hard that they never have time to see each other. Meanwhile, Lennox is conflicted about putting her relationship with Zander on " Pause" when he asks her to collaborate with him on a comic book.

Episode 19: The New Deal
Mel insists on Joe "courting" her, but soon becomes frustrated at their lack of time together. Desperate to spend time with him, Mel sneaks over to his new digs, where he works as a live-in nanny, risking getting him fired for a second time in as many weeks.

Meanwhile, after witnessing a robbery, Ryder expects a hero's welcome, but is horrified to discover that his interview with the local news has been turned into a viral video called "I Peed My Pants."

Episode 20: Feel the Burn
After winning an 8-course dining experience in a raffle, Mel decides to preemptively join an exercise boot camp to lose weight before she gorges on the gourmet meal. She talks Joe into teaching the class, but his harsh tactics get her booted out. Still fighting, they head to the restaurant to meet celebrity chef Malcolm Sunderland, who immediately butts heads with Joe over cooking styles.
Meanwhile, Lennox and Zander attempt to sell their "Cassandra" web series.

Episode 21: Plus One
Mel takes Joe to a work dinner. Upon meeting the press, Joe starts to spout his-and Mel's-opinions on issues, which garners Mel bad press.

Meanwhile, Ryder musters up the courage to ask his new Chem partner Stella out on a date.

Episode 22: House Broken
Mel tries to talk Joe into letting her get a dog, but he argues that he'll be the one stuck taking care of it. She adopts the mutt anyway - much to Joe's chagrin. But soon, "father and son" are inseparable, leaving Mel feeling left out. Meanwhile, Ryder finds himself spending more and more time with Stella's daughter, instead of Stella.

Episode 23: Couples Therapy
Mel gets a reluctant Joe to agree to couple's therapy to work on their constant arguing. But she's completely caught off guard when the therapist turns out to be Joe's ex-girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Lennox is conflicted about dating her Teaching Assistant after Zander shows up on her porch

Episode 24: To Tell the Truth
Mel and Joe have a fun game night with married couple Nate and Gillian, whom they hope to remain good friends with. But then Nate tells Joey a big secret... that Joe in turn tells Mel... who then tells Gillian...

Meanwhile, after flunking out of art school, Zander shows up begging Ryder to let him secretly hide out in the basement without Lennox knowing.

Episode 25: My Roof, My Rules
When Mel and Joe discover Lennox is secretly dating her teaching assistant, Emerson, Joe talks Mel into putting her foot down and forbidding the relationship. But things don't go as planned, and Lennox ends up moving out... and into Emerson's apartment.

Meanwhile, Ryder is stuck at the Canadian border after leaving his passport somewhere in the house.

Episode 26: Chaperones
Mel and Joe are forced to chaperone Ryder's school dance, getting themselves kicked out by the Vice Principal for bad behavior.

Meanwhile, Ryder contemplates breaking up with Stella but does an about-face after helping her nurse a sick Isabel.

Episode 27: I'll Cut You
Mel is completely on Joe's side when he's involved in a hit and run, until she discovers the other driver is her beloved hairdresser, Calista.

Meanwhile, Ryder tries to win Stella back with a grand romantic gesture during class much to the frustration of her teacher

Episode 28: Catch & Release
Against Mel's better judgment, Joe agrees to act as a wingman to his recently divorced friend Charlie when they go out to a bar. There, Joe meets Darcy who doesn't know he has a girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Zander decides to move in with two female co-eds at his college, much to Lennox's chagrin.

Episode 29: Born to Run
Mel's wild father comes to town to help Mel announce her state senate run. But when Joe teaches him about "selfies," he accidentally sends a racy photo to everyone involved in Mel's campaign, hurting her chances at winning.

Meanwhile, Ryder tries to come up with a winning idea for his Entrepreneur's Club.

Episode 30: More than Roommates
Joe inherits his Nona Sophia's ugly chair - the one she died in - and can't wait to finally add a piece of his life into Mel's home. Mel, unfortunately, doesn't feel the same way and tries to find ways to get rid of the chair without hurting Joe's feelings.

Meanwhile, Ryder pretends he's a college student to hook up with one of Zander's roommates, and Lennox and Zander dance around their hidden feelings for each other.

Episode 31: Accidents Will Happen
Mel finds out some unexpected news from her doctor and has to choose the right time when to tell Joe. Ryder forms a study group with a huge mix of people. Lennox and Lander get their wires crossed.

Episode 32: Right Time, Right Place
Mel plans the perfect wedding day for her friend Carrie. But when Carrie calls it off, Mel wonders if she should keep all the flowers, catering and venue for her and Joe.

Meanwhile, Lennox helps Ryder lie on his resume to help him get a job.

Episode 33: Don't Look Back in Anger
In a special clip episode, Mel and Joe meet with a counselor to discuss their relationship. As they look back on their years together, they quickly decide that honesty is not the best policy.

Episode 34: Uninvited
Mel is annoyed when Joe's mom unexpectedly turns up. Joe is more annoyed when his brother also shows up expecting somewhere to stay.

Episode 35: You're the One That I Want
Joe accidentally sees Mel in her wedding dress. While at his bachelor party, one of his guests ends up seriously injured. Marco makes a move on Lennox. Mel's father is nowhere to be found.

Episode 36: Maybe I'm Amazed
Joe receives some shocking news from Mel during their wedding and he is.

Episode 37: At Last
Joe doesn't ask Mel, before asking his family to move in with them. Marco and Zander both try and win over Lennox. Ryder earns a credential from an online course.

Season 4



Episode 1. Witch Came First
A doctor's Halloween house call is anything but ordinary when it is revealed that Mel was once a teenage witch and her help is needed in a battle against an evil foe.

Episode 2: A Melanie & Josiah Christmas
New couple Mel and Joe have a disagreement over whose family ornament gets to adorn the top of their Christmas tree.

Episode 3: The Honeymooners
When their honeymoon to Tahiti gets canceled due to Mel's broken leg, Joe surprises her with a cabin getaway. But their dream vacation quickly becomes a nightmare. Meanwhile, Lennox tries to hide her relationship with Marco.

Episode 4: The Day After
Dani wants to go on a date with a boy at school, but Joe tells her she’s too young. So she tricks Mel into taking her anyway, putting Mel in the awkward situation of wanting to be the cool stepmom but having to lie to Joe.
Meanwhile, Lennox and Marco run into Zander and are outed as a couple.

Episode 5: Let's Get It Started
Joe wants Mel to stop taking birth control so they can start a family, but she's unsure. So he invites Nate and Gillian over with their new baby to see if he can change her mind.
Meanwhile, Lennox tries to help Zander move on by setting him up with her friend Lilah, and Ryder announces his unexpected plans for the future.

Episode 6: Failure to Communicate
It's Ryder's 18th birthday, and the family gathers to video chat with him, but the computer crashes before they get a chance to talk. Joe insists he can fix it, but Mel is afraid they'll run out of time, so she secretly hires a Jiffy Nerd computer technician behind Joe's back.

Episode 7: Thanks But No Thanks
Mel and Joe write their thank you cards to everyone who sent them a wedding gift. Mel goes overboard thanking her Aunt Bunny and Uncle Bert for a huge cappuccino machine she and Joe actually hate. She has Joe return the machine to the store, but then gets notice that Bunny and Bert are on their way to visit the newlyweds.
Meanwhile, Marco gets an offer he can't refuse.

Episode 8: Face the Music
Mel discovers Dani is something of a musical prodigy and gets her a piano to foster Dani's dreams. But she's caught off guard to find Joe opposed to it, until she uncovers his secret musical past in a boy band. This episode features Joey Lawrence singing "911."
Meanwhile, Lennox pressures Zander to choose between working on "Cassandra: The Movie" with her, or continuing a relationship with his possessive girlfriend, Lilah.

Episode 9: Being There
Joe, wanting the family to spend more time with each other, puts a ban on cell phones and computers all weekend long. But it may come back to haunt him when he's offered a job if he gets back to the guy in time.

Episode 10: Parental Guidance (1)
Joe is shocked to learn that Dani snuck friends in to the house, drank wine and then lied about it.
Meanwhile, Mel is less than thrilled over Lennox's infatuation with her professor, who's proving to be a formidable rival for Lennox's attention.

Episode 11: Gone Girl (2)
Lennox wishes to follow her professor to Colombia; Joe wants Dani to tell her mother about her irresponsible behavior.

Episode 12: You Say You Want An Ovulation
Mel and Joe decide they are ready to get pregnant right away. So they take the advice of multiple people on the best way to make that happen. Will all of their hard work result in a baby Longo? Plus, Ryder's back home from AmeriCorps and trying to determine what to do with his life. Lennox gives him some advice that leads to a surprising decision.

Episode 13: Call of Duty
Mel & Joe are reeling from both the pregnancy test results and Ryder's announcement that he's joining the Navy. Feeling Ryder is completely unprepared, they hatch a plan to have Joe put him through a rigorous mock Boot Camp.

Episode 14: You Little Devil
When Joe learns the significance of the little devil tattoo on Mel's backside, it's a big turnoff for him in the bedroom. Meanwhile, Lennox and Zander are forced to work with an untrained actress on their "Cassandra" short film.

Episode 15: The Book Club
Mel is thrilled when Noelle Devereaux, bestselling author of the steamy novel "Love and Bondage," pays a visit to her book club. When Nicole overhears Joe criticize her work, it turns her on, and she ends up trying to seduce him. Meanwhile, Lennox discovers Zander and McKenna are secretly dating.

Episode 16: The Early Shift
After taking a new job with crazy hours, Joe has to down a bunch of energy drinks to stay awake for a meeting Mel has with Hank, a rich backer who might finance her Congressional run. But with Joe wired and acting weird, Hank fears he's is on drugs.
Meanwhile, Lennox decides to kill off Cassandra to break up Zander and McKenna.

Episode 17: The Parent Trap
Mel tries to convince Joe to talk Gloria into drawing up a will, but Joe chickens out. So Mel invites Russell to come talk to her. Gloria is offended, but Russell soon charms her - a little too well for Mel's liking.
Meanwhile, Lennox and Zander try to just be "friends with benefits."

Episode 18: Melissa & Joey's Frozen
Mel and Joe get stuck in a ski avalanche and are frozen for 100 years. When they thaw, they head to their home to find 120-year-old Lennox and Zander married. Mel and Joe want to resume their lives but discover the Big Brother government won't let them stay married and has already picked out the "perfect" new mates for them.

Episode 19: Put A Ring On It
Mel pretends to love her birthday gift from Joe. But that turns out to be a fake gift to throw her off. Instead, he had a one-of-a-kind wedding ring made for her that she hates even more and is horrified she has to wear the rest of her life.

Episode 20: Game Night
With Ryder home on leave, Mel decides to bring back Family Game Night, pitting her and Joe against Lennox and Zander. The competition sends them down memory lane, reminiscing their time together.

Episode 21: Be The Bigger Person
Mel decides to run on a Healthy Diet campaign for her senate run, but is then caught eating a Piggy Burger by a voter. After he tweets a photo of her and calls her a hypocrite, she gets into a war of the words with him.
Meanwhile, Lennox invites Zander to move in with her after his roommates kick him out, but their love nest quickly turns into a house of horror.

Episode 22: Double Happiness [SERIES FINALE]
In the series finale, Mel receives unexpected news as she prepares for her senate campaign. Meanwhile, Ryder finds out where the Navy is sending him; and Lennox and Zander both have wake-up calls after they survive a bad car crash.
