Director found for del Toro's 'Deadman'

Nikolaj Arcel will direct Warner Bros comic book adaptation Deadman, says Variety.

Guillermo del Toro, Don Murphy and Susan Mountford are on board to produce the movie, which centres on a murdered circus acrobat with the power to possess the living in order to find his killer.

Oscars to reintroduce preferential voting

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has confirmed that it will reintroduce preferential voting at the 2009 Oscars.

Members will be asked to rank their preferred choices in the best film category, which recently expanded its field of five to include ten movies, allowing "the collective judgment of all voting members to be most accurately represented".

AMPAS president Tom Sherak said in a statement: "Instead of just marking an 'X' to indicate which one picture they believe to be the best, members will indicate their second, third and further preferences as well. PricewaterhouseCoopers will then be able to establish the best picture recipient with the strongest support of a majority of our electorate."

The preferential system was used between 1934 and 1945 when the best picture Academy Award was contested between 12, then later 10 and 5 movies.

Nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards will be announced on February 2 next year, with the winners revealed at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on March 7.

Fanning "strange, spooky" in 'New Moon'

New Moon director Chris Weitz has revealed that Dakota Fanning is "very strange and spooky" in the upcoming sequel to vampire blockbuster Twilight.

The 15-year-old actress donned red hand-painted contact lenses and black robes to play Volturi vampire Jane in the highly-anticipated movie, which is released later this year.

Speaking to People, the filmmaker said: "I think she wanted to play an evil character for one. She's always kind of playing a very nice girl and she is a very nice girl.

"There's no question that she is very strange and spooky in this movie."

He added: "I think [the Volturi] are magnificently scary and at the same time very elegant, so that's how I wanted to portray them on screen. I wanted to steer clear of any clichés - Dracula's castle sort of stuff. When you see their lair, it's actually quite classically beautiful."

New Moon arrives in cinemas in November.

Pattinson: 'I got really paranoid'

Robert Pattinson has revealed that he became "really paranoid" after appearing in Twilight.

The actor told France's Premiere magazine that he found fame hard to deal with.

"I was getting really paranoid," he admitted. "If tomorrow I say, 'Okay, I've had enough, we're stopping everything', it won't change anything.

"Might as well try to accept it and stay Zen as I have no control over it. It's not always easy. But whining won't change anything."

Pattinson added that he had realised he was famous at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

"I was in a restaurant during a break, and when I came out two hours later, 500 people were waiting for me at the exit," he explained. "It was total chaos.

"I'm sure that if I told one of those girls, 'Come, let's go have breakfast', she would have been totally embarrassed and would never scream my name again.

Beckinsale 'denies Underworld 4 involvement'

Kate Beckinsale has reportedly denied that she will have any involvement in a fourth Underworld movie.

The Pearl Harbor actress had previously not been cast in a leading role for third film Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans, though she did appear in a flashback sequence.

However, the 36-year-old said that she is reluctant to reprise her role as Selene for a proposed franchise update, which is rumoured to begin a brand new trilogy.

She told Sci-Fi Wire: "God, three whole more? I don't think my daughter needs to see my bottom in rubber for another ten years."

She added: "I haven't signed anything. It was always conceived as a trilogy, which I was never going to be in the third one. I think if they came up with an amazing script or whatever then sure, I wouldn't be averse to it, but it's not necessarily planned."

Her husband Len Wiseman, who directed the first two movies in the vampire and werewolf series, recently said that he may adapt Underworld for television.

Sarah Jessica Parker has reportedly started to shoot the Sex And The City sequel.

The 44-year-old actress was spotted as her fashionista character Carrie Bradshaw wearing a white dress, gold Christian Louboutin heels and a Chanel clutch while filming a scene in New York City, Us Weekly reports.

"She comes out as Carrie Bradshaw, puts on her sunglasses, looks around and starts walking," an onlooker told the publication. "She looks pretty happy to be back at work."

It was reported earlier that the United Arab Emirates had banned filming of scenes in Dubai for the follow-up, while a source added that a proposed plotline is to include Big taking a job overseas due to the recession.

Gerard Butler: 'I wouldn't play Bond'

Gerard Butler has suggested that he would never take on the part of James Bond because viewers would then find it hard to accept him in other films.

The 300 star told ShortList that actors risk being typecast if they take on such an iconic role.

Butler said: "I enjoy doing an array of films. If I was to play Bond, that would quickly stop. How likely would I be accepted doing those roles after having played Bond?

"You do a lot of movies as Bond and you'd become even more synonymous with the role. I think Daniel Craig is a great Bond and good for him, but I would much rather create a role from nothing."

He added: "I feel blessed to have done 300 because I think it will go down as a seminal movie and a classic. And it came out of nowhere."

Butler also confirmed that he briefly appeared in Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, but revealed that the director took away his only line because he could not understand his accent.

"They gave it to a really effeminate chap. He was a good bloke, but he delivered the line like it was a piece of gossip. I was gutted," he said.

Fox: 'Michael Bay is like Hitler'

Megan Fox has continued her feud with Michael Bay by comparing him to Napoleon and Adolf Hitler.

Speaking to Wonderland Magazine, the actress likened her Transformers director to a "tyrant" on set.

"He's like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation," she remarked. "He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he's a nightmare to work for but when you get him away from set, and he's not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he's so awkward, so hopelessly awkward."

Fox went on to say that Bay has "no social skills at all".

"It's endearing to watch him," she added. "He's vulnerable and fragile in real life and then on set he's a tyrant. Shia [LaBeouf] and I almost die when we make a Transformers movie. He has you do some really insane things that insurance would never let you do."

Bay earlier said that Fox is prone to saying "ridiculous things".

Security 'stepped up on SATC movie set'

Security on the set of Sex And The City 2 has reportedly been stepped up after hordes of fans descended on the movie's filming locations.

According to the New York Daily News, fans of the hit franchise began arriving at the film's set from around 7am on Tuesday, the first day of production.

"At one point, teenage girls were practically trampling each other trying to get to Sarah Jessica [Parker] as she was walking back to her trailer, but her security team was shoving everyone out of the way," claimed one source.

Parker, who plays writer Carrie Bradshaw, is alleged to have "looked upset and extremely concerned" by the commotion and reportedly asked her security guards not to harm any of the fans.

The insider added that similar scenes occurred yesterday morning when co-star Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbs) was allegedly forced to abandon a scene because of over-enthusiastic onlookers.

"People were screaming and trying to push past guards. The fans were just too much. Security looked legitimately concerned for her safety."

Burton: 'Brando was not for Batman role'

Tim Burton has dismissed suggestions that actor Marlon Brando was to portray a Batman villain.

The Alice in Wonderland director was asked by an MTV interviewer about an internet rumour that Brando was to play The Penguin in 1992 film Batman Returns.

According to IMDB, the list of potential candidates included the The Godfather star, Christopher Lloyd, John Candy, Dustin Hoffman and Bob Hoskins.

"No. I also wanted Sammy Davis Jr to play Beetlejuice, so... sometimes my ideas don't go down so well with the studios. But hey, you try," Burton answered.

Danny DeVito ended up playing the part, along with Michelle Pfeiffer as iconic villain Catwoman, in the follow-up to the helmer's 1989 blockbuster.

Burton will next serve as producer on new animated film 9, which opens in UK cinemas on October 28.
