Pitt 'enjoyed arse-kicking in Basterds'

Brad Pitt has reportedly confessed that he enjoyed his role in Inglourious Basterds because he got to shoot numerous fight scenes.

The 45-year-old plays a Nazi-hunting American soldier in Quentin Tarantino's latest movie.

Contactmusic quotes him as saying: "I just like kicking arse, period. Didn't have to be Nazi, I can beat any ass. Any arse I like kicking, I just kick it.

"The role made me a little tougher. I now walk with a little more swagger."

However, Pitt explained that he is comparatively calm when it comes to the paparazzi, joking: "The [paparazzi] are my friends, they take good care of me. They are really kind and generous and thoughtful people who make the world a better place."

Paltrow "too snobby" on 'Iron Man 2' set

Gwyneth Paltrow reportedly made herself unpopular while filming the new Iron Man sequel.

The actress recently completed filming the upcoming action movie, due for release around May 2010, and was "not friendly" to any of the cast and crew, according to FOX411.

A source admitted that some crewmembers hoped that her character would be recast - or even killed off - but are now resigned to the fact that she will remain in the role of Pepper Potts should a third film be commissioned.

The insider said: "Gwyneth is extremely cool at work. She's just a step above professional, too snobby. Gwyneth is not friendly to anyone, and tends to make people feel awkward and uncomfortable.

"She wasn't outright rude to Scarlett [Johansson], she just didn't ever speak to her. Gwyneth went out of her way to avoid Scarlett, and they had zero contact, at Gwyneth's choosing."

Steven Spielberg 'confirms new studio'

The new DreamWorks studio has reportedly completed an $825 million (£497m) deal with Indian conglomerate Reliance ADA Group.

DreamWorks, run by Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider, revealed that it had secured the final portion of financing for its plan to shoot around six films per year. The last investment came courtesy of $325m (£196m), provided by J.P. Morgan Securities and several other banks.

Walt Disney Studios, which is expected to handle marketing and distribution for the new studio, is also preparing to extend a loan for an amount that was not disclosed, although the Los Angeles Times estimates that it amounted to around $175m (£105m).

This latest volley of new investment should ensure that the workspace can launch its activity after cutting all ties with Paramount Pictures in October 2008. The new DreamWorks, which separated from its sister company DreamWorks Animation in 2004, has declared intentions to have its first release ready for 2010.

"This will allow us to move ahead quickly into production with our first group of films," Snider and Spielberg announced in a joint statement.

"Our partnership with Stacey and Steven is the cornerstone of our Hollywood strategy as we grow our film interests across the globe," added Reliance ADA Group chairman Anil Dhirubhai Ambani. "Given our faith in the business plan that they presented to us and despite the current economic climate, we were always confident that this day would come."

As previously reported, Spielberg has obtained the rights to shoot a remake of Harvey, a classic Hollywood film from the 1950s in which James Stewart starred alongside a giant imaginary rabbit.

Connery's 'Outland' to be remade

Shoot 'Em Up director Michael Davis has signed up to helm a remake of Sean Connery's sci-fi film Outland.

The 1981 movie saw Connery portray a police marshal stationed on a mining colony on Jupiter's moon Io. He stumbles upon a drug conspiracy and finds himself a target for assassins.

Warner Bros and Hollywood Gang Productions are steering the new Outland, which Gianni Nunnari will produce.

"At its core, Outland is a version of High Noon in outer space, as two courageous people take a stand against a gang of ruthless conspirators at the highest level," Nunnari told Variety.

Davis added: "We're staying true to the thematic heart of Outland while expanding the space frontier concept."

Christopher Nolan drops 'Prisoner' remake

Christopher Nolan has shelved plans to direct a big screen remake of cult TV series The Prisoner.

The Dark Knight helmer had been developing an update of the Patrick McGoohan show for Universal, but chose to make science fiction thriller Inception at Warner Bros instead.

Speaking to CineFools at the Australian premiere of Funny People, producer Barry Mendel admitted that Nolan had departed the project but plans are still afoot to revive The Prisoner as a feature film.

"Chris Nolan has dropped out of it but we have a first draft by David and Janet Peoples who wrote Twelve Monkeys and David wrote Unforgiven and it's a good draft and we're working on the script right now," he said.

Mendel noted that his movie version will be substantially different from the forthcoming ITV/AMC TV remake of The Prisoner, which stars James Caviezel and Sir Ian McKellen.

"If the series was wildly popular that might effect us but the screenplay that David and Janet wrote was such a re-imagination of the series, if you think of The Avengers that wasn't a commercially successful film but it was very much in the spirit of the original show," he explained.

"This looks and feels so different that the tenants of the show are apparent but the execution of it is so different that I think it is unrecognisable, whereas the TV show is a well done, modernly shot updated version of the original show, but much more faithful to the original show."

Radcliffe: 'I will not play Bilbo'

Daniel Radcliffe has insisted that he has no interest in playing the lead character in The Hobbit.

The 20-year-old Harry Potter star was rumoured - along with James McAvoy and David Tennant - to be in consideration for the role of Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel.

However, Tennant denied that filmmakers had even approached him about portraying the titular character and Radcliffe has now echoed his sentiment.

"I'd have to say, 'Thanks but no thanks', not that anyone has asked me," he told the Los Angeles Times. "Honestly, I don't think they would want me anyway; it's just too close. Whatever I do next, I don't think there will be any wizards in it!"

He added: "James McAvoy is fantastic. I think he should play it. I've done the fantasy film thing. Actually, so has he, with the Chronicles of Narnia, of course. But I've done it for longer. He can take over. I'm done."

Peter Jackson was previously reported to have said that the project is not yet greenlit by the studio and the script is not yet completed.

Death Row Records to move into films

Record label Death Row Records has announced that it hopes to expand into film production.

The movie division of the revived music company will start shooting the Lynn Stoltz-penned Sons 2 The Grave in Toronto this October, starring Tonya Lee Williams, Dorian Harewood, K.C. Collins and Cameron Miles Jones, The Hollywood Reporter states.

The film, which does not yet have a director, stars Collins as a young basketball player returning to the inner-city after being struck by gunfire in an attack.

Chief executive Lara Lavi said: "This film embodies what we're trying to do with Death Row, to tell human stories that don't always have happy endings, and that allow us to learn from violence and disenfranchised lives, but not glorify it.

"We're looking at film properties that relate to Boyz N The Hood-type stories, and to power the films with Death Row music."

Death Row Records was purchased by the WIDEawake Entertainment Group earlier this year.

Willis "excited" about 'Expendables' cameo

Bruce Willis has announced that he will be appearing in a cameo role in The Expendables.

Star and director Sylvester Stallone wrote the movie's screenplay about a group of mercenaries involved in overthrowing a South American dictator. The picture will also feature Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Willis confirmed that the scene he is filming will include all three action stars (Willis, Stallone, Schwarzenegger) together on screen for the first time.

He told MTV: "That's the concept. That's the plan. I haven't united with them [yet]. I'm waiting for a call from Sly about when we're going to try and make that happen. I don't know anything about [my character] yet, haven't seen any pages yet."

He added: "But I'm excited about it."

It was reported earlier that the 54-year-old is in discussions to star in three different action movies.

Tarantino: 'Music is vital in my movies'

Quentin Tarantino has said that choosing the music for his movies is a vital part of his filmmaking process.

The director told reporters at the UK press conference for Inglourious Basterds that he takes a three-way approach to soundtracking his films.

Tarantino explained: "Music is very, very important in my movies. When I come up with the idea itself, before I've actually sat down and started writing, I go into my record room and I just dive into my music - whether it be rock music or lyric music or my soundtrack collection.

"What I'm looking for is the spirit of the movie. I'm looking for the beat that the movie will play with. Part of that is that I'm trying to immediately jump to the screening process in a way. I can actually just visualise myself just sitting in a movie theatre and watching it on screen."

He added: "All through the writing process I'm going back there to reinvigorate myself. I remind myself what it is I'm doing and keep remembering that it's not just words on the page. Because I'm a very precious writer, I can get a little caught up in that.

"The third wave is when I'm editing, and sometimes there's a big moment or something that I've had in my mind forever and it's not quite right when you actually put it up against the images. So you find something else and it's, 'Oh my God, it's so wonderful I can't believe I was ever in love with that other thing'."

Breaking Dawn Given Green Light?

Breaking Dawn — the fourth film in the hugely-popular Twilight movie franchise — has been given the green light, according to reports.

Breaking Dawn is the fourth and final novel in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.

“The fans should rest assured that we’re working with Stephenie Meyer to bring Breaking Dawn to the big screen,” said a rep for Summit Entertainment. “As in all creative processes, things take time. We want to make sure we get it right.”

It is also claimed that the movie will be a softened-down version of the novel as its fans are a younger generation.

The films’ screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg said earlier this year, “Our fans are in the PG area range, and I don’t feel a big necessity to see violence and to see gore.”

Meyer recently stated that if a Breaking Dawn film were to be created, she thought it would have to be made into two movies because “it’s hard to imagine it fitting into ninety minutes. The book is just so long! I can’t imagine how to distill it—if I could, the book would be shorter.”

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will reprise their respective roles.

Twilight sequel New Moon is currently shooting in Vancouver, Canada.

Jude Law 'wants Sherlock Holmes franchise'

Jude Law has reportedly said that he hopes that his new film Sherlock Holmes is a commercial success as he would be keen to turn the project into a franchise.

Law, who plays sidekick Dr Watson to Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie's new thriller, admitted that he enjoyed bringing Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories to life.

He told Empire: "No, [it will not be a one-off]. The more you work on the substance of a film, the more you go back to the source material and the more you realise there is to tell.

"There are fantastic stories and even better characters. We would love that the audience falls in love with it as much as we have, as then we can [make] a whole bunch more."

Downey Jr added that he is also eager to film a follow-up, saying: "We definitely agreed to renegotiate for a part two. We feel really strongly about that. We might shoot the next one abroad."

Thor, Hulk cameo in 'Iron Man 2'?

Iron Man 2 star Don Cheadle has fuelled rumours that Marvel superheroes Thor and the Hulk will make cameo appearances in the upcoming sequel.

Speaking to MTV News, the actor - who plays colonel James Rhodes in the film - joked that the characters will appear after the end credits, working in a diner.

"Thor and Hulk both make an appearance in this film. They work at a diner," he said. "You heard it hear first. Thor is actually in the movie. He eats Tony Stark. He consumes him into his God-like belly and spews him into the world. He turns into stars actually.

"It's a strange twist. I don't know that they're going to stay with it. It may not make it to the final cut, but it was cool to see filmed."

Although Cheadle's remarks were made in jest, they support previous speculation that the Thunder God will be referenced in the update as a means of garnering anticipation for 2011's Thor movie.

Colonel James Rhodes, who was portrayed by Terrence Howard in the original Iron Man, will don his own suit of weaponised armour in the sequel, becoming the hero War Machine.

Bale 'keeps going missing on set'

Christian Bale has apparently caused upset on the set of his new movie by regularly disappearing.

The actor, who is currently filming The Fighter, which is about Irish boxer Mickey Ward, reportedly confuses his co-stars when he goes missing between takes.

An industry insider told E!: "You only see him when it's time for his scenes. Other than that, no-one has any idea where he is. He just goes missing."

It is believed that Bale is so determined to accurately portray former crack addict Dicky Eklund in the film that he prefers to spend time alone to help him get into character. He has also worried people with his gaunt appearance.

The Fighter, which co-stars Mark Wahlberg and Amy Adams, is released in cinemas in 2011.

Legendary working on new Hendrix biopic

Legendary Pictures is to develop a movie based on the life of Jimi Hendrix, according to Variety.

Thomas Tull, Legendary's chairman and CEO, will produce the film with Bill Gerber. Max Borenstein has been hired to write the screenplay.

Previous attempts to make a movie about Hendrix have hit problems due to rights issues with Experience Hendrix, the firm in charge of the rock icon's legacy which is run by Hendrix's stepsister Janie.

Legendary, said to be in "loose talks" to secure permission, is attempting to navigate around the rights issues by writing the script first, then getting official approval from Hendrix's estate.

Lenny Kravitz and Andre Benjamin from Outkast have previously expressed an interest playing Hendrix on screen.

Kruger: 'Quentin strangled me on film'

Diane Kruger has revealed that Quentin Tarantino insisted that he strangle her himself for a scene in Inglourious Basterds.

The German actress told Parade that Tarantino did not think that the actor concerned would be able to choke her to his satisfaction.

Kruger said: "I get strangled, which was especially weird because you feel it when someone is choking you, so it was an interesting day at the office. The funny part is that Quentin's hands are in the close-up.

"Quentin said, 'He's not going to do it right, it'll either be too much or too little. I know exactly what I need and I think I should just do it'. I have to say it was very strange being strangled by the director."

She added that she nearly missed out on her role in the movie because she had lost her accent to such an extent that Tarantino did not initially believe she was German.

Kruger recently claimed that she is offered a World War II piece "once a week" because of her nationality.
