'Hangover' tops Friday box office with $10.4 million

After a surprise first-place finish last weekend, Vegas comedy The Hangover is in the lead again with a commanding $10.4 million Friday gross. That was plenty to trump the week's biggest new release, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, which came in third with just $8.3 million. The John Travolta-Denzel Washington thriller lost the second-place spot to Disney/Pixar's Up, still flying high in its third weekend. But the weekend's real loser looks to be Eddie Murphy's Imagine That, which limped into sixth place with a weak $1.8 million from more than 3,000 screens. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the final weekend grosses.

Megan Fox 'not confirmed for 'Buffy' movie'

Megan Fox has not been confirmed for the new feature-length film reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it has emerged.

Producer Roy Lee has dimissed speculation about the Transformers star playing the lead role as the teenaged vigilante, according to Perez Hilton.

He said: "The rumours of Megan Fox being involved with Buffy are just rumours.

"As with any film project with a female lead under the age of 30, Megan is the actress that most studios want so it is no surprise her name is mentioned. While I think she would be great for our project, we are still in the early stages of developing the script."

The character of Buffy was previously played by Kristy Swanson in the 1992 original movie, and Sarah Michelle Gellar in the following television series, which ran from 1997 to 2003.

Bullock 'welcomes nudity for sake of comedy'

Sandra Bullock has reportedly revealed that she has welcomed the idea of nudity on her latest project for the sake of comedy.

The 44-year-old actress has said she came to terms with performing a brief nude scene in The Proposal, where she and actor Ryan Reynolds accidentally collide with one another in a bedroom, according to Adelaide Now.

Bullock said: "I mean, come on. I looked at that scene and I went, 'I wonder if that's going to be the thing they focus on [in marketing]?'

"And then I went, 'Hey, if it works, if my nakedness makes people laugh, then I guess bring it on'."

She added: "Our job is to make it funny. You panic because it's about timing and we knew there were certain bits you can't show, and how to cover up those bits becomes funny in itself.

"Eventually you don't stay covered and you don't care after about hour eight. It's like, 'So what, I've seen it'. So, honestly, being naked was like the last thing on my mind after a while because I just wanted it to be right."

Craven: 'I won't see 'Elm Street' remake'

Wes Craven has claimed that he won't see the remake of his classic horror film A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Speaking to DS, the filmmaker said that the experience of watching the revised version "might be too painful. I might just pretend it's not there".

Craven has no creative input in Samuel Bayer's film, starring Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner and Katie Cassidy, after losing ownership of the 1984 horror when he sold the screenplay.

"Nobody's called me or anything - I don't know what the script's like, I don't know who's in it," Craven said. "Frankly, that's painful. It was one of my better ideas and better films, but the fact is that, because I was completely broke [when I sold the script], I completely sold the rights to it."

A remake of Craven's first feature The Last House On The Left is in cinemas now, and the veteran director noted that he had complete control of the film in a producing capacity.

"Last House On The Left, it was a matter of after 30 years the rights came back to me and the producer Sean Cunningham," he explained. "We had total control of that project. I have no control over the new Nightmare and no participation."

Craven calls new film 'revolutionary'

Wes Craven has claimed that his upcoming film 25/8 could be "groundbreaking".

The horror veteran, who produced this week's remake of Last House On The Left, is excited to see how audiences respond to his next directorial outing.

"It's more like a psychological thriller than a straight-up horror film," he told DS. "It's actually, I think, quite innovative and groundbreaking in the sense that it's a horror film but not really in any sense that they have been in the past. I think that's going to be a revolutionary film. It will either be out late this year or early next year."

25/8 centres on seven teens who are haunted by a serial killer who supposedly died 15 years earlier. It takes place over the course of a day as the mystery of who is stalking the teens unravels.

Bullock 'tired of romantic comedies'

Sandra Bullock has revealed she has had enough of romantic comedies, reports say.

The 44-year-old actress has insisted that after acting in a slew of movies in the genre, which have dated back to 1995's While You Were Sleeping, she has decided that it is time to move on.

Bullock told USA Today: "They're not funny, they're not romantic, and they're not written well for women anymore.

"It was basically all crap. I did the last good one. I'm done."

Bullock has also admitted that when she received the script for The Proposal, she turned the project down several times before accepting.

She said: "Finally, someone said, 'Look, you can't say no if you haven't read it. Just read it, and then we can pass'. Surprisingly, it piqued my interest.

"Being nice and adorable isn't funny. I enjoyed being a bitch. Everyone does. They are always better written and it's a relief."

Coldplay 'very likely' for 'New Moon'

Coldplay could "very likely" feature on the soundtrack to New Moon, according to the band's official website.

The group's Q&A page, managed by themselves and their handlers, hinted that there is a strong possibility that a Coldplay track could be selected for the highly-anticipated sequel to vampire romance Twilight.

"It's very likely that a Coldplay song will end up on the soundtrack to the Twilight sequel," read one response to a fan query.

"Given that [author] Stephenie Meyer has credited Coldplay, among others, on the inner sleeve for 'being instrumental in staving off the writer's block'."

Meyer has often credited her favourite bands for inspiring her writing. Other musicians to get a name check in her book credits include Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Muse.

Paramore, who featured on the original soundtrack, recently played down speculation that they would contribute any further songs to the franchise, while My Chemical Romance have also ruled out the likelihood of a collaboration.

Pattinson plays down 'New Moon' songs

Robert Pattinson has played down speculation that he will feature on the soundtrack for New Moon.

The actor, who stars as Edward Cullen in the vampire franchise, is a keen musician and contributed two original tracks to last year's Twilight.

Speaking to Metro, he said: "I don’t think [I will be on the soundtrack] this time. It’s still early on, but there are so many people that might be on it.

"The last one did so well, so loads of bands want to go on it. Bands that I would never ever have thought would be on a soundtrack I think are going to be on it this time."

Coldplay are the latest band to have hinted at a possible New Moon offering, while the Jonas Brothers have also expressed an interest in contributing a track.

However, original soundtrack musicians Paramore recently played down any further involvement with the franchise, while fan favourites My Chemical Romance have also ruled out a rumoured collaboration.

Stewart Praises Star Trek Movie

Former Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Patrick Stewart has praised director Jj Abrams for successfully resurrecting the franchise - insisting he "loved" the new movie.

Abrams brought the sci-fi franchise back to cinemas this year with Star Trek, a prequel to the original 1960s TV show, featuring a new cast of young actors.

Stewart played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series for seven years and brought his character to the big screen in four spin-off films, including 2002's Star Trek Nemesis.

And the British star insists he is delighted the original show has been resurrected once again and is full of praise for Chris Pine, who portrays a young Captain James T. Kirk in the new movie.

He says, "He's brilliant, charming, funny and utterly delightful."

And Stewart is adamant he is not bitter about movie bosses' decision to leave him out of the new movie, adding, "I loved it. It was a very odd experience to be in the cinema watching a Star Trek movie that I wasn't in. With the exception of Leonard Nimoy, I didn't know any of the cast but it's still Star Trek. I got a great kick out of it."

Producer discusses new Potter 'darkness'

The producer of Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince has insisted that the movie is no darker than the previous wizard offerings.

Speaking to Showcase Cinemas, David Heyman played down speculation that the sixth instalment in the magical franchise would be aimed at a more mature audience.

"I don't think that it's any darker than the fifth [Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix]. I think it's on a par with that," he said.

"Everybody obsesses with the darkness but I think that ultimately it is very accessible, very moving and exciting."

He went on to say that Half-Blood Prince was a "real step forward", explaining: "With each film we try and push the boundaries a little bit. It's a very different film and we're exploring many different characters from Slughorn, to Malfoy, to Harry.

"There's lots of romance, some adventure and great relationships."

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince is released in the US on July 15 and the UK on July 17.

DiCaprio sought for 'Spawn' film

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has confirmed that Leonardo DiCaprio is his first choice to play the lead in the franchise's upcoming film reboot.

McFarlane - who is helming the project - revealed that an unnamed character who tracks Spawn will be the movie's protagonist, and believes that the Revolutionary Road actor would be ideal for the part.

"The main character isn't Spawn, per se, it's the guy chasing Spawn. And I've always had Leonardo in the back of my mind," he said.

"It's a big wish, but his dad was a big fan of underground comic books and he came from that. It's not a big special effects movie, it's a character movie, so I could shoot it in 40 to 50 days and you don't have to budget that much time."

Spawn was first introduced by Image Comics in the early 1990s. The series follows former CIA agent Al Simmons, who is betrayed by his employers and is assassinated. Desperate to see his wife and child again, Simmons strikes a bargain with the devil and returns to earth as a Hell Spawn.

The comic was originally adapted for the big screen in 1997, starring Michael Jai White as Spawn. The reboot is currently in pre-production.
