Good point i am lucky i can share  the cost of my car with my dad since he practically drives it more than me . The hardest thing is that we are all forced to work harder at our job because the employers know they can easily find somebody else. I miss the good old days when all you had to do keep a job is turn up on time now they expect you work through lunch hour and even stay behind if job isn't finished by the end of your work day. .

I'm also back behind because i have been trying to find an electrical fault on my car ready for it's MOT and after spending almost a week on and off stripping it down trying to find the short circuit

Man that must be annoying I hate trying to find that sort of problem with a car.

It kept blowing the left hand side lights fuse so i assumed it was front or back but how wrong i was when after stripping the dashboard down it turned out to be the rear fog light switch

It's a good thing you know how to do that because i probably paided someone in garage to find it as i know nothing about cars.

I only know the basics that's why it took me so long to fix because i was getting so frustrated and walking away but 9 fuse later it past it's MOT yesterday and i also found a few frayed wires going to the hatchback / boot so that was a good thing i found them before they broke

Good job, I too know the basics, but to be honest my time is valuable and I would have paid to have it fixed.  Good for you
I am not asking you to dye your hair red and call me Mulder, I would simple ask that you could consider the possibility...

in this economy they probably charge arm and a leg for something like that

i know its after the fact jim but always start with the premise that something is on so turn everything off before you replace a fuse then turn them on one at a time till it blows  hope that helps in future. or the AA

I even took the bulb out but when the problem is in the dashboard and there are over 20 bulbs it's more difficult

Cars these days are harder to tinker with though. A lot of them require computer based diagnostics. Figuring out blown fuses still can be done but I usually give my Dad a buzz because he genuinely likes that kind of thing. He's restored a couple of motorbikes over the years and it's funny when I tell people that because my Dad would be seen as quite business like and not into that sort of thing at all. Never judge a book by a cover; very true!!

I tried the whole self repair thing this morning on my petrol lawnmower. 2 hours alot of grease, springs everywhere and.......... It's even more broke now than when I first started.
B&Q here I come, probably another £300 on a new lawnmower

That sounds like far too much hard work for a easy Saturday afternoon
@bala
I have to have a petrol lawnmower as my backgarden is too big for extension leads, they would be daisy chained right accross the lawns which aint great. I was thinking about treating myself to a new gadget anyway soo im now in the process of talking the wife into letting me get a sit on mower. How cool are they...

My uncles bought one for my Grandad (this is years ago) after he retired.  The yard was massive and kind of hilly.  Some parts still had to be mowed with the regular push mower, but the riding mower was wonderful.  We gave it to my youngest Uncle's father-in-law when we sold the property after the Grandparent's passed.  He's thrilled with to have it as he and his wife live out in the country and have quite a large yard too.  He was a farmer and is semi-retired, but still - pushing a mower around on a hot summer day is no fun, especially when you're getting on in years.  ;-)
