Taylor Kitsch offered lead role in 'Need for Speed' movie adaptation

Taylor Kitsch has reportedly been offered the lead role in Need for Speed.

DreamWorks is currently adapting the series of racing video games into a film and has named the John Carter star as their top choice to headline the potential franchise, according to Zap2it.

"I'm excited about getting back into the creative trenches with John and George Gatins and my partners at EA to bring to life an exhilarating script based on an epic video game that seems to have been made for the movies," Steven Spielberg said in a statement regarding the film.

"This is a big piece of business for DreamWorks and we are grateful to Frank Gibeau, Pat O'Brien, Kevin Maher and John and George for choosing us to deliver their goods."

Kitsch's team have said that the actor is considering the offer.

The former Friday Night Lights star was rumoured for the role of Finnick in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but has since shot down the reports.

Kitsch recently claimed that he will not make any more blockbuster films "for a while" after John Carter and Battleship were somewhat poorly received in critical and financial terms earlier this year.

Die Hard 5' won't be light-hearted, says director John Moore

Director John Moore has opened up about what to expect from A Good Day to Die Hard.

The Irish director revealed that the fifth instalment in the Die Hard franchise will not be overly jokey, insisting that fans should not expect a light-hearted tone.

"No, because that's preposterous!" Moore told Empire.

"I don't know whether it's post-financial crash or whatever, but I don't think people are in the mood for that b*llocks anymore.

"People are well savvy to the cynical reheating of any product, any franchise. Any s**t won't do. The bar's a bit higher."

However, the director said that the Bruce Willis movie will not be too serious either.

"There are a couple of great gags and a couple of great McClanisms," Moore said. "It's not like he's this idiot, bumbling around Moscow making 'America won the Cold War' jokes. It's not Carry On Die Hard, I can assure you."

Earlier this month, filming on A Good Day to Die Hard was delayed after an on-set fire.

Rush Hour 4' moving ahead with Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker

Rush Hour 4 is reportedly in the works with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker likely to reprise their roles as mismatched cops Lee and James Carter.

Producer Arthur Sarkissian told Crave that he is hoping to bring in a pair of new characters to reinvigorate the franchise.

"I am working on Rush Hour 4 right now with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan," he said. "I'm trying to do it closer to how I did Rush Hour 1, more down to earth, more gritty, introduce two new characters and make it real the way the first one was.

"I personally was not happy with the third one. I thought 1 and 2 were very good. I think 3 got out of hand a little bit. It's not a matter of just bringing them back to do another segment of that or a sequel to it by putting them in another city and having them bicker. I don't want that. I want something new."

Sarkissian suggested that he is hoping to lure Oscar-winning The Help star Octavia Spencer to join the sequel's main cast.

The Help's Octavia Spencer - winner of 'Best Supporting Actress In A Motion Picture' - waves to photographers
"Maybe Chris is now married? Jackie is married to Octavia Spencer, I don't know," he said. "Married to Chris's cousin, they live in Shanghai, Chris goes out to visit them. I don't know, I want something energetic."

Sarkissian added that no screenwriter has been enlisted to pen the script and Rush Hour franchise director Brett Ratner is "more than welcome to do it but he's got to do it in the right way".

On whether Chan would be undertaking strenuous action scenes, Sarkissian said: "He's getting a little older. I think he can fit it. What was great about Rush Hour 1 and 2 mostly was the relationship of these two and it came out of nowhere.

"It was just very real. We didn't build it, we didn't write it. It just happened. I think the action will be there but it has to be moulded to fit him today and not forced into stuff that he won't do."

Chan said during May's Cannes Film Festival that he couldn't foresee ever returning to the action comedy series.

The previous three Rush Hour movies have grossed more than $800 million at the worldwide box office. The most recent instalment, Rush Hour 3, was released in 2007.

The planned sequel looked to be axed when Jim Carrey dropped out due to conflicts with New Line and Warner Bros.

Ben Affleck approached by Warner Bros to direct 'Justice League'

Ben Affleck has reportedly been approached by Warner Bros to direct the superhero team-up film Justice League.

The movie will feature an assortment of DC superheroes, including Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash.

Variety reports that Warner Brothers had hoped Christopher Nolan, who along with directing the previous three Batman movies is also producing Superman reboot Man of Steel, would be creatively involved with their answer to Marvel's enormously successful The Avengers.

However, once Nolan expressed his wish to stay out of any potential Justice League movie, the studio apparently turned to Affleck, who had a surprise hit with 2010's The Town.

The 39-year-old actor and director is currently putting the finishing touches to Iranian hostage drama Argo, which will be released next month.

Affleck has previously expressed his wish to only direct films that he also stars in - however, it is not yet known whether he intends to play one of the Justice League.

He has also recently been linked with another huge property for Warner Bros, a new adaptation of Stephen King's horror epic The Stand.

Justice League is set for a 2015 release alongside Marvel's The Avengers 2, which was confirmed this week to be written and directed by Joss Whedon.
