Bones Season 1-10 General Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Reply 12#12 sanggye's post

I was laughing like a loon at Bones trying to put herself in Booth's shoes.  Her running at that coach & competitive eater was hysterical.

The new guy is alright, but that accent is going to wear thin very fast.  I found it irritating because it didn't sound authentic.

Well he could be like the Muslim dude and just be doing it, for myself, he sounded a little exaggerated, but having lived in many places in the US, sad to say, I have heard very similar, except without the down-home sayings

I've heard similar too, but even the most redneck people I've met don't use so many of those sayings.  I was thinking that he may be doing it for affect too.  The Muslim guy (awful - I can't remember his name) did it for a reason, so if it IS for affect, I'm wondering what the reason could be unless it's to see if he can be taken seriously as a scientist while using such "down-home" sayings.

edit:  I looked his name up & it's Arastoo Vaziri.  I felt rude calling him the Muslim guy.

But, that was a big part of the role he played, he spoke in the accent feeling it made people accept him being a Muslim better.

I know, but I don't generally identify characters by their race or religion.

There are alot of sayings we use on a regular basis.  Most of what I heard of him was just crap!.    Sorry but I would of heard at least one.  "bless your heart" is the main one.  I think it's the writers trying to make him into the most Country-fied, redneck they could and the accent/hat is there way.    It makes him seem dumb, when in reality he's brilliant.

Loved! that bones would just say, "great now I'm thinking about sex again".  LOL

Just saying, don't know what part of the south you are in Ark, but my grandma being from Alabama, I heard from her and many others all kinds of stuff and sayings, though it was usually the older folks that talked that way, not the kids and not as much as he did though.    But there is no way after the "skoolin' he would have had to talk like that other than shock value.

Asked my Mamaw (grandmother) what nationality she was once when I was a teenager, and she looked at me and said, "Son, you all have that on your momma's side, from me you just got hillbilly, y' hear?

LOL!!!!!   HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAA

I kinda pretty much loved that.  You made me laugh out loud!  NICE!   ( I know what a mammaw is )    Mine is a grams....

I agree there are alot of sayings and such.   I just never hear any the show used.  Maybe they are condusive to parts of the US?    Ehhh....you're totally right though about the Skoolin', and it being shock value.  I actually do that some time...make my accent more pronounced so people look at me funny >:}  It's a tool....

That also made me LOL!

We don't have those particular sayings in Canada, but each region has it's own colloquialisms.  You know what I mean, eh?   I live in a border city so even our accent here is not as pronounced as in other parts of Ontario.  Here, the accent to use to get the odd look would probably be a Newfoundland accent - which I love, and they have some funny sayings there too.

7x02 The Hot Dog in the Competition

When Booth couldn't get out of the apartment quick enough when he found out about the missing snake i thought was amusing but Camille's reaction was priceless and as for Finn, i can cope with the accent but calling everyone sir and mam would drive me made

It's the intern shift, a different intern every week, then rinse and repeat.  5 interns: Daisy (This episode, still with Lance-a-lot), Wendell (First episode, seems the same. so scholarship must still be going good), New guy (Finn), Clark (wondering if he still is going to be loose instead of uptight, the way he last appeared, friendly and loving instead of a stick in the mud), Colin (Crazy, wonder if his tea and meditation is helping or is back to depressing morbidness).

We lost Vincent Nigel-Murray as he was shot and killed last season (bad year for the dude, won Jeapardy for a Million, blew it all in less than a year, then is shot.  though Angela & Hodgins,  has his name, Michael Staccato Vincent Hodgins.

Arastoo Vaziri switched majors and his studying Cultural Anthropology instead of Forensics, so he probably won't be back (maybe a one-off as he did 1 episode last season)

I am such a geek

What memorizing? all this info is on various web sites.  it's called research, one of the reasons I like watching tv and movies on my computer, watch it on 1 monitor, research it on another monitor.
