Michael Bay to direct 'Transformers 4' for June 2014 release

Michael Bay will direct the next instalment in the Transformers movie series, it has been announced.

Studio Paramount Pictures confirmed the news in a press release issued on Monday evening (February 13), adding that the movie has been pencilled in for release on June 29, 2014.

Directed by Bay, the movie will reunite the filmmaking team from the hit franchise, including producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Ian Bryce; and executive producers Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian," the company announced.

It was reported late last year that Bay was in 'final negotiations' to take charge of a fourth Transformers movie.

Bay has signed a two-picture deal with Paramount which also includes drama Pain and Gain.

The movie, which is due to begin production this spring, will star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Mark Wahlberg as two bodybuilders who become caught up in an extortion ring and kidnapping scheme that goes horribly wrong.

"Michael has been working on Pain and Gain for a number of years but has patiently waited for the perfect casting to trigger a start," president of Paramount's film group Adam Goodman explained, also praising Bay's "awesome" passion for the movie.

Bay will begin work on the fourth Transformers movie as soon as he completes production on Pain and Gain. Shia LaBeouf, who starred in the first three Transformers films as Sam Witwicky, is not expected to return for further instalments.

Dominic Cooper replaces Clive Owen in 'Cities'

Dominic Cooper has joined the cast of Cities.

He will replace Clive Owen, who is pulling out of the financial thriller due to scheduling difficulties, according to Variety.

The ensemble cast for Cities features Anil Kapoor, Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom.

The movie is said to be set around the time of a record high on the Dow Jones stock market and focuses on a number of characters around the world - including a police officer in Mumbai and a New York hedge fund manager - as their stories become intertwined.

The shooting schedule for Cities conflicts with Cooper's upcoming role in Albert Hughes' action thriller Motor City.

It is unclear whether he will remain on the latter film, which will feature Gary Oldman and Amber Heard.

Cooper will next appear in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which releases on June 22 in the US and August 2 in the UK.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has opened up about the future of the Fast and the Furious franchise.

The WWE star revealed that the sixth and seventh instalments will not be shot together due to "weather issues".

"I don't think we're going to shoot them back-to-back," Johnson told MTV News

"We were going to try that because it wouldn't make sense to have the same crew and have everybody there in one place, but I think we're dealing with some weather issues.

"So from what I know we're going to shoot Fast 6 first and then worry about Fast 7 a little later."

The actor went on to say that the sixth film will begin filming in May.

X-Men: First Class 2' to focus on Magneto

The X-Men: First Class sequel will focus on Magneto, according to screenwriter Simon Kinberg.

Kinberg, who is penning a script for the film in collaboration with helmer Matthew Vaughn, hinted that Michael Fassbender's villain will be taking centre stage in the follow-up.

"Magneto becomes the villain ultimately of the franchise but he's a much more complicated character as a young man. He's someone you sympathise with, you care about you root for even though might not necessarily agree with his methods, you understand his philosophy," Kinberg told MTV News.

The scribe went on to say that audiences will be "afraid" of Magneto in the sequel, but he will not be a "full-on" villain.

"I think the truth is ultimately that because Michael is such an interesting actor, he'll never be full-on anything. He'll have a villainous side and he'll have a sympathetic human side you'll be able to relate to but you'll also be afraid of him. He becomes Magneto, he says 'Call me Magneto' at the end of the first movie."

X-Men: First Class was released in cinemas in May last year. Vaughn signed on to direct the follow-up in January.
