Rampage' movie in development at New Line Cinema

Rampage is to be adapted for the big screen by New Line Cinema.

The Warner Bros-owned studio is seeking writers to develop a screenplay based on Bally Midway's '80s arcade game, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Final Destination and A Nightmare on Elm Street producer John Rickard will oversee the project, which has been described as a "smartly budgeted" monster movie.

Rampage was released for arcades in 1986, and later ported to Atari, Commodore 64, DOS, ZX Spectrum, NES and the Sega Master System, among other platforms.

The game saw a giant lizard, ape and werewolf laying waste to various cityscapes while fending off military attacks.

Rampage: Total Destruction, an updated take on the formula, was launched for Wii, GameCube and PlayStation 2 in 2006.

James McAvoy: 'X-Men: First Class sequel is fantastic

James McAvoy has promised that the sequel to this summer's X-Men: First Class will be fantastic.

The Arthur Christmas star, who portrayed the young Professor Charles Xavier, revealed that the film's director has come up with a good storyline for the follow-up to the superhero movie.

"I've heard a little bit about what's happening," McAvoy told Collider. "The director has got a fantastic idea for what the story will be. I can't really tell you what it is because we may or may not make that, but we've got to do something intelligent with it."

He continued: "I can't speak for Michael's [Fassbender, who played Magneto] character, but for my character, he's got some major s**t to deal with.

"He's just been paralyzed and he's been betrayed by the person who he's probably come to care about more than anybody else in the world, and he's the guy who did it to him," McAvoy concluded.

Earlier this month, Simon Kinberg was hired to pen the highly-anticipated sequel to X-Men: First Class.

In June, McAvoy revealed that he is not a fan of 3D, describing the format as "a waste of time and money".

George Clooney, Noah Wyle in frame to play Apple leader Steve Jobs

George Clooney and Noah Wyle are reportedly in the frame to play late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic of his life.

Sony picked up the rights to make a film of Jobs's life after the acclaimed technology leader died of pancreatic cancer last month at the age of 56.

Aaron Sorkin, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Social Network, is understood to have been contacted to adapt the script from Walter Isaacson's biography of Jobs.

Filming for the biopic is scheduled to get underway next year.

Clooney, 50, is said to be up against 40-year-old Wyle to play Jobs, after the two starred opposite each other in the long-running US drama ER.

However, Wyle may have the edge because he previously played the former Apple chief executive in the 1999 cult classic TV movie Pirates of Silicon Valley.

To research the film, which documented the rivalry between Jobs's Apple and Bill Gates's Microsoft, the actor was invited by Jobs to that year's Macworld Expo, after which the pair went to dinner.

Recalling the meeting, Wyle told Fortune magazine: "He (Jobs) took his napkin and started sketching out the schematics and he passed the napkin around the table. The cheque soon came and we started to get up the leave - and the napkin just sat there on the table.

'I thought to myself, 'I got to take that napkin', and my hand was on it, but Steve called from the door and asked, 'Noah, you want to share a cab with me?' So I put the napkin down. I could have had an Edison original."

Whoever secures the chance to play Jobs will have to portray one of the most enigmatic and indeed quotable people ever to work in the technology industry.

Tomb Raider' reboot will be origin, says 'Hugo' producer Graham King

The Tomb Raider reboot will be an origin story.

The relaunched franchise will explore how Lara Croft came to be an adventurer, producer Graham King has revealed.

"Listen, the box office, they weren't disasters but I find it interesting that the story that we're telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece," he told Coming Soon.

"It does have a lot of really great characters, but it's a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it's something very different. I've not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we're going to give it a shot."

King, who recently produced Martin Scorsese's Hugo, compared the reboot to Casino Royale and Batman Begins.

He is working on the film with Iron Man writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby.

The original two Tomb Raider movie adaptations of the popular video game franchise starred Angelina Jolie as Croft.

King produced Jolie's new directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey.

Hugo will be released in cinemas on November 23.

Christian Bale: 'My Batman era has ended

Christian Bale has insisted that he will never return to the Batman franchise.

The Hollywood actor told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that The Dark Night Rises, his third Batman film, will be his last.

The 37-year-old, who was recently pictured on location at Trump Tower, also confirmed that filming for the superhero thriller has come to an end.

Bale explained: "I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I'm taking that [Batman mask] off.

"I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it's all done. Everything's finished. It's me and [director Christopher Nolan] - that will be the end of that Batman era."

The Welsh star added his belief that Catwoman, played by Anne Hathaway in The Dark Night Rises, is the most challenging character to portray.

"In many ways, [Hathaway] has the hardest job. There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously," he continued. "So I always saw Anne's role as being the toughest job of any of us."

Michael Fassbender has played down talk of him playing James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves the long-running franchise.

The 34-year-old actor's recent performances in Inglourious Basterds and X-Men: First Class have led to suggestions that he could take on the iconic spy role in the future.

Speaking to Total Film, Fassbender said that he doesn't have any kind of long-term career plan regarding the Bond series.

"I think Daniel is doing a great job and I don't think too far into the future. It's one step at a time right now," he commented.

However, Fassbender confessed that he has fantasised about playing 007 in the past.

"Of course, every guy knows the feeling of walking round the house singing the song to himself, walking around corners with an imaginary gun," he explained. "Let's see what happens."

Adam Rodriguez turns down 'Dark Knight Rises' for stripper role

Adam Rodriguez has turned down a role in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises for a part as a male stripper in Magic Mike.

The CSI: Miami star was lined up for a small role in Christopher Nolan's movie, but has had to pass on it due to a scheduling conflict.

"Unfortunately, I wasn't able to work on Dark Knight [Rises] because it directly conflicted with the shooting schedule for Magic Mike," Rodriguez told Celebuzz.

"There was no way around it. I'm sure it would have been an incredible experience, but I know it worked out for the best."

Magic Mike stars Channing Tatum as a veteran stripper taking new guy Alex Pettyfer under his wing.

Matthew McConaughey will appear as the owner of the club, Xquisite, with Rodriguez as one of the strippers alongside White Collar's Matt Bomer and True Blood's Joe Manganiello.

Kenneth Branagh: 'I wouldn't rule out a return to Marvel

Kenneth Branagh has said that he would consider doing more Marvel Comics movie adaptations.

The Thor director described his first collaboration with the publisher as "a joy".

"I certainly wouldn't rule out a return to Marvel; we had an excellent collaboration," he told Variety.

Branagh revealed that he only turned down the director role on Thor 2 because of a scheduling conflict.

He discussed this year's Chris Hemsworth-starring superhero movie, which was a first for the director.

Across 20 years of making films, I hadn't spent a significant amount of time in that [Hollywood blockbuster] community, and I wanted to do that," he said.

"Of all the American comics, Thor was the only one I was really familiar with from my childhood, and it intrigued me, maybe because it was a bit more European, with those Viking helmets and its basis in Norse myth.

"The scale was exciting, and I did love the character and the story. It had depth and gravity in addition to being an entertaining ride."

He said his approach to the film was "to bring to it a sense of fun, but also to take the process of making it as seriously as I would doing Shakespeare".

He has praised the choice of Patty Jenkins as the director of Thor 2.

Branagh's most recent project was as director on My Week with Marilyn.
