'Independence Day' sequels planned by Fox

Fox is planning two sequels to the 1996 alien invasion movie Independence Day, it has been reported.

The two movies are expected to shoot back-to-back, focusing on a single storyline, according to New York Magazine.

Independence Day, which starred Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman, grossed $800 million (£498 million) worldwide.

Talks of back-to-back sequels featuring Smith began in earnest in early 2009. However, when Smith allegedly asked for $50 million (£31 million) to shoot the two films, Fox put plans for the sequels on hold.

"The delay wasn't about whether they both wanted to make the movie," a source said. "It had more to do with 'Whose d**k is bigger?'"

Insiders also told the website that the scripts for the two follow-ups will be ready by December of this year, adding that Fox is prepared to shoot the films without Smith.

Smith recently became a part-owner of basketball team the Philadelphia 76ers.

Earlier this year, he dismissed rumours of a split between him and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, saying that the claims were "ridiculous".

Will Smith better be in these movies otherwise it wont be the same so if I was FOX I would just pay him because these movies are guaranteed to make almost $1 Billion each.

A stuntman has died and another is in critical condition following an accident on the set of The Expendables 2 yesterday.

The incident occurred at 7pm local time when the movie's 2nd Unit Stunt Team was filming an explosion scene at reservoir Ognyanovo, 15 miles from Bulgaria's capital of Sofia, Deadline reports.

Production company Nu Image/Millennium Films said: "It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident.

Local police have launched an investigation into the matter. Details of those involved in the incident are currently being withheld in consideration of their families.

The sequel to The Expendables started shooting last week.

The film's main unit, which was led by star Sylvester Stallone and director Simon West, was reportedly filming in the mountain resort of Bankso, 2.5 hours away from the incident.

Jason Statham exits Andy McNab's 'Echelon' movie

Jason Statham has dropped out of starring in Echelon, the movie adaptation of Andy McNab's book Firewall.

Expendables star Statham had been earmarked for the role of SAS agent Nick Stone in the movie, but McNab told Digital Spy that the action star is no longer available to take on the role.

"That was originally what was going to happen, but he's just too committed," McNab said of Statham. "There are so many films he's got lined up, there wouldn't be a slot for him to do it."

Asked if McNab had a replacement for Statham and a director lined up, he replied: "No. Basically there's three or four that have been flagged up, but they're still going through the process of reading scripts and all that.

"Some directors will only deal through certain actors and certain actors will only deal with certain directors, so all this sort of business is being sorted out at the moment."

McNab revealed that financing is in place for the Echelon feature film, and the project could go before cameras in early 2012.

"It's scripted up, the money's in place and what it is now is getting an actor and director. So in theory, if the contracts get signed it should go into pre-production by April, which in reality will probably be June," he explained.

Echelon will see Stone in a race to reach a computer programme before the Russian mob and Western secret service agents.

Bravo Two Zero author McNab has recently worked on video game Battlefield 3 to advise on the script, visuals and motion capture.

James Bond 23' casts Albert Finney

Albert Finney has joined the cast of director Sam Mendes's new James Bond movie, according to reports.

Production sources have claimed that Finney will play a Foreign Office official, who may attempt to exert control over M (Judi Dench).

Finney reportedly was present for a recent table read of Bond 23's script alongside co-stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes and villain Javier Bardem.

A production source told the Daily Mail of Finney's casting: "It was one of those fabulous
'This can't get any better!' moments because Mendes has upped the game by bringing in Bardem and Fiennes - and they've already got Dame Judi Dench. So you think, well, who else can they get to make this any classier?"

An official title for Bond 23 hasn't yet been announced, but several URLs recently registered by Song Pictures point to the name Skyfall.

Director Mendes will reportedly film one of the latest Bond movie's explosive action sequences at Duntrune Castle near Glasgow in February 2012.

Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks 'turn down Assassin's Creed film

Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks studio reportedly passed on the opportunity to film an adaptation of popular video game franchise Assassin's Creed, due to the unprecedented amount of creative control demanded by publisher Ubisoft.

Two weeks ago, it emerged that Sony Pictures was in final negotiations to develop a film based on the series. However, Vulture claims that Ubisoft's heavy demands put off a number of studios.

The report says that Ubisoft has insisted on having approval over the film's "budget, principal cast, script and release date".

"They want to be able to pull the plug on the whole movie's development if they decide to," one unnamed studio source told the site. "It's ridiculous."

"They're not moviemakers, and the only way to make sure it's a bad movie is to undervalue what movie studios do," another source added.

It is believed that Spielberg's DreamWorks was among the first studios to pass on the proposed adaptation.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations, the fourth game in the franchise, is due to be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 15.

Rufus Sewell joins Bradley Cooper in 'Paradise Lost

Rufus Sewell has reportedly joined the cast of Paradise Lost.

The Zen actor will reunite with director Alex Proyas, who had previously worked with him in Dark City. He will play Samael, Lucifer's agent who tells him to begin the rebellion in heaven, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
