Zachary Quinto: 'Spock's love life could fall apart in Star Trek 2'
Zachary Quinto has said that his character Spock's love life might take a turn for the worse in the sequel to Star Trek.
The former Heroes star revealed that the events of the first film could affect Spock's relationship with Uhura (Zoe Saldana).
"I would imagine - this is just speculative - his planet's been destroyed, he feels a real imperative to rebuild his race," Quinto told io9. "But he's in love with a human. There's probably some potential conflict in that dynamic; I would not be surprised, and I would be intrigued and excited by that if that were the case."
Quinto went on to admit that he is anxious to begin filming the follow-up to 2009's Star Trek, saying that he is particularly intrigued by who the movie's antagonist will be.
"I'm interested to see what the villain situation is," Quinto said. "What are we fighting against? What is our mission? That's going to be really cool for me. I'm really excited to see the direction in which they take my character in general."
Quinto continued: "I'm excited to see when this movie takes place, in juxtaposition to when we ended the first one. Where do we pick back up? What's happened to the characters since then? My sense is, what's the dynamic like between Kirk and Spock? Is it all smooth sailing?
"I imagine that they're both so strongly willed, that there will be some continued friction... I'm just excited to read it and shoot it."
Earlier this month, JJ Abrams confessed that the next Star Trek picture still has no script or director. The Lost creator previously insisted that he did not want to rush the film for fear of delivering a sub-par story.
In July, it was announced the sequel would miss its scheduled release date of June 29, 2012.
