About - CROSSING JORDAN

Crossing Jordan is a drama series that ran from September 2001 to May 2007.

About The Show:
At the heart of this intriguing dramatic series is Jordan Cavanaugh, a smart, sexy, and fearless medical examiner who has a habit of going way beyond the call of duty to investigate crimes. Still haunted by her mother's unsolved murder when she was only 10 years old, Jordan puts her all into piecing together complex cases that have been hidden, shoved aside, or conveniently forgotten.

After a professionally and personally difficult stint in Los Angeles, Jordan returned to her hometown of Boston and to former job with the Massachusetts State Coroner's Office. Back home, Jordan is reunited with her ex-cop father, Max. She often turns to her father for investigative help. Together, they engage in some rather unusual role-playing that literally puts them in the heads of the killers and victims at the murder scene.

On the job, Jordan is supported—at least most of the time—by her boss, Dr. Garret Macy. Other colleagues assisting her are forensic entomologist Dr. Mahesh "Bug" Vijayaraghavensatyanaryanamurthy, grief counselor Lily Lebowski, and criminalist Dr. Nigel Townsend. Detective Woodrow "Woody" Hoyt provides the much needed legwork to track down the perpetrators Jordan and her team investigate.

Main Cast:

Jill Hennessy

Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh
is a smart, sexy and fearless crime-solving medical examiner.  Born and raised Irish-Catholic in south Boston, she is emotionally scarred by her mother’s murder when she was a child in the 70s.  She attended Boston University and Tufts University School of Medicine.  With her “bad girl’ persona and passion for solving homicides taking her beyond the call of duty, she eventually lost her job at the Boston medical examiner’s office.  She moved to Los Angeles to make a fresh start.  But her headstrong ways continued.  Years later, an old friend, Dr. Garret Macy, rescued her from a court-ordered anger management course in Los Angeles and gave her a chance to return to her old job in Boston.  Earlier in their relationship, Macy had lent support and inspiration for Jordan to turn her life around after a near-fatal drug overdose.  Macy often overlooks Jordon’s insubordination because she is so good at her job.

Miguel Ferrer

Dr. Garret Macy
is the Chief Medical Examiner and it’s his job to keep his temper in check even when Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh pushes him to the limit.   He must deal with Jordan’s erratic behavior as well as his confused family.  His “depressed” father was always on the road and was often absent from home.  Eventually, he just didn’t come back.  His “icy” mother died of Alzheimer’s disease in 2001.  Macy is divorced from his wife, Maggie Warner, and has a teenage daughter, Abby.  Macy is also an affinity for poetry and jazz.  He's been known to have had romantic entanglements with grief counselor Lily Lebowski and district attorney Renee Walcott.  The relationship with Walcott began when they were both in North Carolina to review a death penalty case gone wrong.  Garret admitted to a drinking problem after finding out his daughter, Abby, had become addicted to heroin upon dropping out of college and becoming involved with a heroin dealer.  He hopes to be a better father to her than his own father was with him.

Ravi Kapoor

Mahesh "Bug" Vijayaraghavensatyanaryanamurthy (Mahesh Vijay)
a brilliant but shy forensic entomologist from Liverpool. He has feelings for Lily which, until the final episode of Season 5, were not reciprocated. In the beginning of Season 6, with the cancellation of Lily's wedding, his relationship with Lily is beginning to move forward. However, things may be complicated by Lily's unexpected pregnancy with her once to be husband, Jeffery. Bug has since taken it upon himself to make Lily move in with him and support her and the baby. In an episode called "Post Hoc", near the end of the final season, Bug suddenly disappears without a trace, to the great consternation of his colleagues. Dr. Macy makes inquiries and learns that Bug is being held incommunicado by the Department of Homeland Security, on suspicion of being a terrorist. He is finally released after an interrogation (not seen) that apparently included waterboarding, and is left deeply shaken by the experience.

Katheryn Hahn

Lily Lebowski
the good-hearted grief counselor working in the medical examiner's office. Lily and Garret used to be romantically involved, but their developing relationship ended when Garret went back to his ex-wife for a brief period. Lily and Garret remained friends ever since. As season 2 rolled around Lily appeared to finally be over Garret only to have to deal with Bug. To complicate matters , the insensitive Detective Matt Seely appears to be trying to win Lily over. Lily’s mother died in April 2005 after being run down by a car. Bug thought Lily was adopted because her blood type differed from her newly-deceased mother. Garret recently revealed the woman Lily thought to be her mother was really her aunt. In "Mysterious Ways", she tendered her resignation and accepted her boyfriend's marriage proposal. She eventually cancelled the wedding  Soon  after, Lily received the surprising news that she was pregnant.

Steve Valentine

Dr. Nigel Townsend
is a quirky British criminologist/forensics expert who grew up in London.  His mother died of cancer a few days after the death of Elvis Presley,  Nigel was not on speaking terms with his father for many years, but started communicating with him again.  He mentions to Jordan that he regrets having had no contact with him for so long.  However, relations with his father continue to be rocky. Nigel ran away from the Royal Navy, where he was a counter intelligence officer. Nigel is sometimes thought to carry a torch for Jordan because of his willingness to bend over backwards to help her solve a case at the risk of losing his job.  When he was nearly deported, Nigel plotted a scam marriage to Lily Lebowski, a grief counselor at in the medical examiner's office, but Dr. Garret Macy stepped in, pulled some strings and saved the day.  Nigel has amazing computer skills that often produce important clues.

Jerry O'Connell

Detective Woodrow ‘Woody’ Hoyt
is a detective for the Boston Police Department from Kewaunee, Wisconsin, who often works with Jordan on her cases. Woody, who prefers go by the book, constantly struggles with her unorthodox work methods. He is also known to harbour romantic feelings for Jordan, who resists, preferring friendship because her commitment issues.  On Jordan's birthday, Woody gave her a diamond ring, but Jordan declined the ring. When Woody was shot by a cop killer and nearly died in the hospital, Jordan was prompted to confess her love. But a recovering Woody turned her down, believing her declaration of romantic feelings to be motivated by pity.  Woody briefly hooked up with Dr. Devan Maguire, a pathology resident, before she died in a plane crash. Woody’s mother died of cancer when he was only 4. His father, the local sheriff, was shot during a convenience store robbery and died a few days later.  Woody has a younger brother, Calvin, a former alcohol and drug addict who always seems to be in trouble. He is a good practising Catholic.
