'Salt' sequel is confirmed, Sony says

Sony Pictures has confirmed that it has started working on a sequel to the 2010 movie Salt.

Angelina Jolie will return to play Evelyn Salt, the titular CIA agent who spent the first film on the run after being accused of being a Russian spy. Kurt Wimmer (Law Abiding Citizen) will once again pen the script, according to Deadline.

Jolie said in August of last year that she was "keen" on making a sequel to the spy thriller, but the studio decided to wait to see how the film performed internationally before pushing forward with the picture.

Director Philip Noyce will not helm the sequel, though he previously has expressed interest in returning to the film.

Noyce recently signed on to make Bloodsport opposite Jean Claude Van-Damme.

Jolie has said she was intrigued by the Salt character because she had long wanted to play the legendary spy James Bond.

Salt grossed $36 million (£22 million) on its opening weekend.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has revealed that a follow-up to this year's Fast Five is likely to be made.

The Race to Witch Mountain actor, who played Luke Hobbs in the film, spoke to Access Hollywood about the possibility of a sequel, claiming that he is certain the writers are already at work.

"I'm sure they're getting ready to start writing away," Johnson said. "The best part about the success of Fast Five is the fact of how much the fans love it."

Johnson went on to reveal that he has one condition if he is to return for a sequel.

"Well, it all depends… on how much ass I could kick in that movie," Johnson said.

The wrestler reinvigorated the Fast & Furious movies when he joined the franchise for the fifth instalment.

Johnson is rumoured to be joining the cast of G.I. Joe 2 to play a character named Roadblock.

The actor was the recent victim of a death hoax when a report indicated that Johnson had died in an on-set accident in New Zealand.

Leonardo DiCaprio In Early Talks For Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained

EXCLUSIVE: Talks are about to get underway for Leonardo DiCaprio to play the role of villainous ranch owner Calvin Candie in Django Unchained, the Sergio Leone-style spaghetti Western that Quentin Tarantino wrote and will direct as his next film. DiCaprio is being courted to play a charming but ruthless proprietor of Candyland, a despicable club in Mississippi where female slaves are exploited as sex objects and males are pitted against each other in "mandingo" style death matches. Candie is a slave's worst nightmare and the freed slave Django must cross him in order to reclaim his wife.

Now, deal making discussions are just getting underway, but I'm told there is a much higher likelihood of DiCaprio taking part in the film at this point than Will Smith, who had been reported as lead candidate to play the title role of DJango, a slave who is liberated and taught the tricks of the trade by a German dentist-turned-bounty hunter. That role is expected to be played by Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar playing Hans Landa in Tarantino's last film, Inglourious Basterds. Tarantino's Pulp Fiction star Samuel L. Jackson is also expected to play the role of Stephen, Candie's valet who keeps the slaves in line at Candie's residence. Tarantino turned in his script in late April to The Weinstein Company's Harvey Weinstein, and Sony Pictures signed on shortly after to distribute in offshore territories.

The courtship of Smith for the role of Django has gone on for so long that I'm persuaded it has become a long shot. At this point, I've heard alternative names that include Idris Elba, Jamie Foxx and Chris Tucker. The latter is a surprise because he hasn't starred in a movie since 2007's Rush Hour 3, but he showed some serious dramatic chops playing a memorable small role in Tarantino's Jackie Brown.

The emergence of DiCaprio as the film's main villain is intriguing. Candie in some ways is comparable to the polished but loathsome Landa in Inglorious Basterds. That role intrigued DiCaprio in the formative stages when Tarantino was just formulating a cast. It didn't come together and Tarantino decided he wanted an actor who could speak German as well as other languages. Waltz proved a glove fit for that role and it was impossible to read Django Unchained and not see Waltz in the role of Dr. Schultze. Candie is every bit as colorful and ruthless a villain as Landa was. DiCaprio next stars as FBI director J Edgar Hoover in the Clint Eastwood-directed J Edgar. Django Unchained is being produced by Tarantino's Pulp Fiction producer Stacey Sher, along with Pilar Savone.

Chris O'Dowd for 'Knocked Up' sequel

Chris O'Dowd is in talks to star in the follow-up to the comedy Knocked Up.

The Bridesmaids star is being eyed for the role of an employee at Paul Rudd's character's indie record company, according to Variety.

Rudd, Leslie Mann and Charlyne Yi will appear again, alongside newcomers to the cast such as Albert Brooks, Lena Dunham and Megan Fox.

Wyatt Russell, who will next be seen in Cowboys and Aliens, is also in negotiations for a role in the Judd Apatow comedy.

During a Twitter interview with Digital Spy, the IT Crowd actor said that he preferred comedic roles to dramatic, also finding them more challenging.

"I prefer comedy because I love the sound of children laughing and the money's better," he quipped.

However, O'Dowd recently revealed that he intended to be a "straight" actor before landing a comic role in the period drama Vera Drake.

Daredevil' reboot to be based on 'Born Again

The Daredevil movie reboot will be based on Frank Miller's acclaimed comic book series run Born Again.

The storyline, which Marvel Comics first published in 1986, sees the blind vigilante's former lover Karen Page become a porn star and drug addict, eventually trading in her ex's secret identity for a heroin fix.

Fringe writer and co-producer Brad Caleb Kane has been hired to write the adaptation for studio 20th Century Fox, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Kane is a former actor who recently worked on the script for crime thriller Brooklyn's Finest.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse director David Slade is still attached to helm the Daredevil revamp.

The British filmmaker informed his Twitter followers earlier this year that his take on the superhero had "a great outline for a very strong character driven take on Mr Matt Murdock" and would not be connected to Ben Affleck's 2003 Daredevil movie.

John Krasinski for Matt Damon directorial debut

Matt Damon has announced that he has begun casting his forthcoming directorial debut.

While attending the American Institute for Stuttering 5th Annual Benefit Gala, the Adjustment Bureau actor spoke with New York Magazine about his directorial debut, stating that he is already hard at work on the film.

"I've got a few things that I really want to direct, and one I'm actually going to start at the first quarter of next year," said Damon, reportedly referring to the spec script Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses, which the 40-year-old selected for his directorial debut in early May.

The father of four went on to declare that Office actor John Krasinski will star in the film, asserting that the news is not a joke.

"I'm being dead serious!" Damon said, when questioned if Krasinski's involvement was genuine.

Damon will begin filming Liberace next, in which he plays the lover of Michael Douglas's titular pianist followed by Neill Blomkamp's Elysium.

The actor said in March that he does not mind having to kiss Douglas for the Liberace role, claiming he will pretend that he is "making out" with the 66-year-old actor's wife Catherine Zeta-Jones instead.

'Lone Ranger' receives a release date

Disney has revealed that The Lone Ranger is to begin production later this year.

The long-planned movie stars Social Network actor Armie Hammer in the titular role and Johnny Depp as his companion Tonto.

Disney has now finally granted the movie a release date. The Lone Ranger is scheduled to open in cinemas on December 21, 2012.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star affirmed in early May that his character will not be a sidekick, stating that he hopes to reinvent the relationship between the two protagonists.

The Lone Ranger was a television series starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels that ran between 1949 and 1957.

Director Gore Verbinski said in February that the film will be told from Tonto's point of view, claiming that he finds the idea of an unreliable narrator such as the character of Tonto to be fascinating.

The Lone Ranger is Verbinski and Depp's fifth joint collaboration.

U.N.C.L.E.' to be last Steven Soderbergh film?

A producer on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. has revealed that the project will in all likelihood be director Steven Soderbergh's final film.

Soderbergh said in March that he was bored of film, stating that he plans to retire from the industry in the near future. According to Man From U.N.C.L.E. producer Davis, the spy remake will be Soderbergh's final film, Collider reports.

"Steven Soderbergh said that it will be his last movie," Davis said. "It will hopefully start shooting sometime early next year."

George Clooney is rumoured to star in the movie as the lead spy Napoleon Solo. While Davis refused to confirm the news, he did address the speculation.

"That would be the best way to do it," Davis said when asked if Clooney was attached to the film.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was a 1960s television series about the fictional United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.). It starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.

Mark Wahlberg confirms 'The Fighter 2

Mark Wahlberg has confirmed that The Fighter 2 will be made.

In March, director David O. Russell revealed that he would like to write the sequel, declaring that it would focus on boxer Micky Ward's famed battles with Arturo Gatti.

While attending the 2011 Spike TV Guys Choice Awards, Wahlberg was awarded the prize for 'Guy Movie Of The Year' for The Fighter. In his acceptance speech, he announced that a sequel to the Oscar-winning film is in the works.

"We left out the Arturo Gatti fights for a reason," Wahlberg said. "Because that's for The Fighter 2. We're not going to do Fighter 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 but we are going to do 2, and we're going to do the Ward-Gatti trilogy."

Ward had three fights with Gatti that took place between 2002 and 2003. Each of the fights was so brutal that the two boxers ended up in the hospital following the matches.

Wahlberg previously said that a sequel to The Fighter was not a given, explaining that the follow-up is in its early stages.

I recently watched the 3 fights and have to admit they are possibly the 3 greatest fights ever.

Shia LaBeouf: 'Indiana Jones 5 coming soon

Shia LaBeouf has revealed that he believes a fifth Indiana Jones is on the way.

The Transformers star spoke to MTV about the future of the franchise, stating that Harrison Ford, who plays the titular character, is once again getting into shape to play Jones.

"I talked to Harrison. He said he's staying in the gym. He said he's heard no word, but he does know that George [Lucas] is out there looking for a MacGuffin (plot device)," said LaBeouf. "He said he's staying in the gym, so it means, you know, it's not so far off."

It was reported in December that Jones might be killed off in the upcoming instalment in the franchise, though Ford's representatives denied the news.

In June of last year, an Indiana Jones producer said via Twitter that the fifth film was "still in the research phase", claiming that the movie would not begin shooting in 2011.

LaBeouf admitted last year that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had "dropped the ball", stating that the movie did not live up to the standards set by the previous three instalments.

Shia LaBeouf: 'I'm done with Transformers'

Shia LaBeouf has confirmed that he has no plans to return to the Transformers franchise.

LaBeouf is currently promoting his third and final appearance as Sam Witwicky in Michael Bay's supposed last entry in the popular franchise, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

"For sure," LaBeouf told MTV News, when asked if this was really his last Transformers film.

"I'm not coming back to do another one," he explained. "I don't think Mike [Bay] will either."

Despite his decision to leave the franchise, LaBeouf said that the success of the film series means Paramount Pictures are likely to continue it in some form.

"It is still a hot property I think, especially coming out of the third one," the actor continued. "So I imagine they'll reboot it at some point with someone else."

LaBeouf confirmed earlier today that a fifth film in George Lucas's Indiana Jones series is definitely in the works.

J.J. Abrams: 'Star Trek 2 may miss release date'

J.J. Abrams has admitted that Star Trek 2 may not be completed by its scheduled release date.

The Super 8 director spoke to Collider about his progress on the sequel to 2009's Star Trek, revealing that the follow-up may not be ready in time for its June 2012 release date.

"I care much more that it be good than it be ready," Abrams said. "We're obviously doing everything we can to make sure that schedules don't get screwed up, but I don't think anyone wants a movie on time that's not worth your time."

Abrams went on to say that he is unsure whether Star Trek 2 will be shot in 3D.

"I'm not yet considering it," he added. "But I haven't gotten that threatening phone call from people in suits saying, 'If you know what's good for you...'"

In May, Abrams promised that Star Trek 2's production would start in the near future, stating that he had previously been unable to focus on the sci-fi sequel due to his commitment to Super 8.

Star Trek 2 co-writer Roberto Orci recently confirmed that the plot of the upcoming sequel has been fully outlined, stating that he is waiting for Abrams to decide if he is satisfied with the storyline before completing the script.

Star Trek 2 is currently scheduled for a June 29, 2012 release date.

Simon Pegg to pen 'World's End' "very soon

Simon Pegg has pledged to begin work on a script for The World's End "very, very soon".

The Paul comedian teased that fans could expect a "very different" closer to his 'Cornetto Trilogy', which - like previous films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz - will be written and directed by Edgar Wright and co-star Nick Frost.

"Edgar and me have been very determined that we're going to start in earnest very, very soon," he told Ain't It Cool News. "Not just do the same thing again, to do something very different. Not to the point of alienating people who want something, but just give people something new and something different.

"You can't just stay where you are forever. You have to mutate to survive, and I think we're going to make sure that we do that. I'd hate to become stale and predictable."

Pegg, who will juggle the project with his commitment to the upcoming Star Trek sequel, also spoke of his determination for The World's End to outdo the pictures of his similarly-minded contemporaries.

"People are already making films that are kind of like the sort of thing we might do. I want to stay a little bit ahead of the curve at least," he said.

Wright previously told Digital Spy that work on The World's End would begin this year.
