Angelina Jolie 'will not be sexy Cleopatra'

Angelina Jolie has spoken of her determination to ensure that her take on Cleopatra is not seen as a "sex symbol".

The Oscar-winning actress, who was cast in a big-screen adaptation of Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life last June, pledged to make her interpretation of the Egyptian legend deeper than the "great beauty" of Elizabeth Taylor's iconic performance in the 1960s.

"She has been very misunderstood," she told Stella Magazine. "I thought it was all about the glamour, but then I read about her and she was a very strong mother, she spoke five languages and she was a leader.

"My performance will never be as lovely as Elizabeth's. We are trying to get into a different truth about her as a pharaoh in history and not a sex symbol, because she really wasn't.

"Even this idea of her having many lovers - it was possible that it was only two. She is very interesting, but she wasn't a great beauty."

Jolie previously named Social Network director David Fincher as her choice to helm the 2013 epic. Bourne mastermind Paul Greengrass is said to be the project's frontrunner.

James Cameron, who was himself rumoured to be involved with the Cleopatra remake, previously declared that Jolie's performance will be "hot".

Hangover Part III' to be set in Amsterdam?

The Hangover Part II's stars have suggested that Amsterdam is the most likely location for a potential third film in the series.

Speaking to Moviefone at the sequel's recent Las Vegas premiere, actress Jamie Chung, who plays' Stu's fiancée in the film, suggested that it is the obvious choice.

"Probably Amsterdam," Chung said, regarding her pick for the third film's setting. "It you think of the coolest, craziest cities in the world, it would have to be Las Vegas, Bangkok and Amsterdam."

"Amsterdam could be a different kind of hangover," co-star Justin Bartha agreed. "It could be fun. And Zach [Galifianakis] would probably already be there."

A third Hangover film has yet to be officially greenlit, but director Todd Phillips has already admitted that he plans to round off the series with one last entry.

The Hangover Part II topped the US box office this weekend and has taken an estimated $137.4 million domestically since its release last Thursday.

Dan Aykroyd: 'Ghostbusters 3 depends on Murray

Dan Aykroyd has revealed that Ghostbusters 3 could still be produced if Bill Murray decides to join to the project.

Movie studio Sony reportedly insisted on Murray's involvement for Ghostbusters 3 to go forward, but Murray told radio host Howard Stern in February that he hadn't yet read writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg's screenplay.

Aykroyd has now weighed in on a possible third Ghostbusters feature, affirming his hope that Murray can be swayed into reprising his role of Dr Peter Venkman.

"We hope to make the movie with Bill Murray. That's where we're standing… I'm in," he told Access Hollywood.

"There's a great story to be told. The promise of the new movie is handing the torch to the young because, you know, [the original Ghostbusters] Ray and Winston and Egon and Peter Venkman, we're a little taxed physically now. We can't be frontline operators anymore so we need the youth!"

Fellow Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson recently admitted that he has "no idea" if the proposed sequel will ever get off the ground, adding: "I'm not waiting for it, but I'd love to see it happen. I think it's great."

X-Men: First Class' writers tease sequel ideas

X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have discussed their ideas for a sequel to the movie.

Speaking at last weekend's MCM Expo in London, the scribes revealed that they would like to introduce the character Cable in the potential follow-up, The Coventry Telegraph reports.

"We would like to introduce Cable. He's such a cool character and we haven't seen him in any of the films yet," said the pair.

Avatar actor Stephen Lang previously expressed interest in portraying the character in a future X-Men project. Cable co-creator Rob Liefeld has also put the actor's name forward as the ideal candidate to play the mutant super soldier.

"Dear 20th Century Fox, please sign [Stephen] Lang as Cable and put him in your next X-Men film," the artist wrote on Twitter. "Lang's performance as Quaritch in Avatar was brilliant. Just attach a cyborg arm to him and presto! He's Cable. Perfect age too."

X-Men: First Class arrives in UK cinemas on June 1, and in the US two days later.

Hawkman' movie rumours re-emerge

DC and Warner Bros are pushing forward with their rumoured Hawkman movie, it has been reported.

According to Bleeding Cool, the studios are seeking writers to adapt the popular comic book for the big screen.

Speculation about the project arose in 2009, when a report suggested that Warner was interested in developing a Hawkman film containing elements of Indiana Jones, The Da Vinci Code and Ghost. There have been no developments since.

Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Dennis Neville, the original Hawkman first appeared in Flash Comics #1 in 1940. Numerous versions of the character have emerged over the years, each playing a prominent role in the DC Universe.

The hero also featured in the Smallville: Absolute Justice special, portrayed by Michael Shanks.

Bond 23' UK release date announced

The James Bond film series' 23rd instalment will be released on October 26, 2012.

Sony Pictures UK confirmed the UK cinema release date on its official Twitter account on Thursday.

Bond 23 - the working title for the project - had already been announced as debuting in the US on November 9, 2012.

Plans for Bond 23 were reportedly put on hold last year as MGM faced a financial crisis, but were revived once the company emerged from bankruptcy in November 2010.

Judi Dench disclosed earlier this year that she is to reprise her role as M for the upcoming movie, but stayed tight-lipped on the film's storyline, saying: "I can't tell you anything at all!"

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes is to helm the film and Daniel Craig will return as 007, while Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will produce.

Sir Anthony Hopkins and Javier Bardem have both been linked to roles in Bond 23.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5' eyes directors

Disney is reportedly looking into a number of new directors for the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The first three Pirates of the Caribbean films were helmed by Gore Verbinski, while the recently released fourth instalment was directed by Rob Marshall. At the present time, Marshall has not yet signed on for a fifth movie, so Disney has allegedly assembled a list of directors to replace him, including Tim Burton, Shawn Levy, Sam Raimi, Chris Weitz and Alfonso Cuaron, according to Cinema Blend.

The top choice for the job is Burton, who has worked with the franchise's star Johnny Depp numerous times before. The studio reportedly wanted Burton for the fourth film as well, but could not negotiate a deal with the acclaimed director.

In addition, Depp has not yet signed on for a fifth film. He recently said that he was unsure of making another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, stating that it would depend on the quality of the script.

Disney has reportedly secured a script for a fifth film, Screen Rant reports. A draft of the screenplay for Pirates 5 was allegedly written even before the most recent instalment was released.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opened to a respectable $90.1 million in the US. It recently broke the UK box office record, earning £11.6 million on its first weekend of release.

Alyson Hannigan reveals 'American Reunion' details

Alyson Hannigan has revealed details about the forthcoming American Pie sequel American Reunion.

The How I Met Your Mother actress, who plays Michelle in the comedy series, disclosed that her character now has a child with Jason Biggs's Jim Levenstein.

"We're still married, and we have a child. So we're navigating the waters of parenthood and how that changes the dynamics of a relationship," she told Entertainment Weekly.

"But also they're going back to their high school reunion and so there's some nostalgia there of, 'Aw, remember what we were like when we first met?' That kind of stuff. It's really nice. I really love that relationship and they've stayed true to it.

"The great thing about this franchise is that, of course, there's the raunchy humour but there's also a lot of heart to it. And this fourth movie does not miss the boat on that at all."

Asked if Michelle will be showing her "flute-playing prowess" in the sequel, Hannigan added: "There will be some... Uh... Yes, you know, it's a reunion. What's great about what [screenwriters Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg] have done is they've made a really good movie that people who aren't familiar with the franchise will love, but they've also given the people that love the franchise a lot of inside jokes and stuff that you'll really appreciate if you're a fan of the American Pies."

Sean William Scott, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth and Chris Klein will reprise their roles in American Reunion, which opens in cinemas in April 2012.

James McAvoy wants two more 'X-Men' films

James McAvoy has confessed that he would love to reprise his X-Men: First Class role in future films.

In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, the actor, who plays Professor X in the X-Men franchise reboot, revealed that he believes the movie is set up in a way that's conducive to at least two more instalments.

"Ideally you have a story arc that lasts three movies and at the end of the third it leaves you ready for the story in X-Men 1," he explained. "It would be nice to explore things in two more films. In this one, Magneto has gone through his major metamorphosis; he kind of found himself."

Asked if he believes a sequel will be made, McAvoy responded: "All I know is that if this one makes some money, they will definitely want to make another one. We've had pretty strong critical reaction thus far. I don't know if they'd make it just on the back of that, if they didn't make the kind of money they hope for.

"I don't know, but I can't see them making it just on that. I just hope that, if it happens, they make it because they found a story they like rather than making it just because there's more money to be made. I've been lucky that, even though I've done a couple of bad or silly movies in the past, that's the way they ended up; the studios made them because they were passionate about them. I'd hate to be in something that started right off as something cynical."

McAvoy previously claimed that Professor X has "an ego" and that he was excited that First Class explored his darker side.

Arnold Schwarzenegger 'not Terminator 5 lead

Arnold Schwarzenegger will reportedly not be the male lead in Terminator 5.

It was reported in April that the former California governor would be returning to the Terminator franchise. However, Schwarzenegger will not be the principal actor in the film, according to What's Playing.

The 63-year-old will still appear in the movie, but his role will be reduced. Meanwhile, given that Paul Walker is currently rumoured for the role of Kyle Reese, it is believed that the Fast Five actor could become the anchor for the new Terminator movie.

It is unclear if this role reduction is the result of Schwarzenegger's recent scandal. The governor split from his wife of 25 years after he revealed that he had fathered a secret love child over a decade before.

Director Justin Lin said in early May that he would not be reuniting the original cast of the first two Terminator films, though his film may ignore the events of the third and fourth instalments of the franchise.

Terminator 5 will allegedly be a reboot of the franchise in the vein of J.J. Abrams's Star Trek

Jim Carrey wants 'Almighty', 'Dumber' sequels

Jim Carrey has said that he is considering returning to some of his most popular roles in a number of new projects.

While promoting his new film Mr Popper's Penguins, Carrey confirmed that he would definitely be interested in starring in sequels to his 1994 breakout comedy Dumb and Dumber, as well as the 2003 hit Bruce Almighty.

"We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about," Carey revealed to Coming Soon. "There's Bruce Almighty and we're talking about maybe another Dumb and Dumber."

Both films spawned significantly less successful sequels which Carrey himself was not involved with.

Bruce Almighty was followed by the 2007 sequel Evan Almighty, which saw Steve Carrell take over as the lead character, while Dumb and Dumber was followed up with a 2003 prequel called Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd starring Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson.

After starring almost exclusively in comedies, including the likes of Ace Ventura, The Mask, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Carrey branched out to more serious projects, such as the Michel Gondry-directed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and psychological thriller The Number 23.

Stephen Fry cast in 'Borrowers' remake

Stephen Fry has joined the cast of a new adaptation of children's classic The Borrowers.

Fry revealed the existence of the project during an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live's Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode show on Friday evening, and also confirmed that it will begin production very soon.

"Before [The Hobbit], in fact I go to South Africa. Working Title are doing The Borrowers," Fry said. "I was surprised to get this script because I remember they did The Borrowers not that long ago.

"I thought, 'Oh, that's odd', but I read the script and thought it was delightful and I had a really funny part," he continued. "That starts in a few weeks."

Although Fry refused to clarify any further details about the project, it is believed that former Shameless writer Danny Brocklehurst has penned the film's script.

Later this year, Studio Ghibli will release an English-language version of their own adaptation, called The Borrower Arrietty.

The novel has previously been adapted into both a BBC TV series as well as a 1997 film starring John Goodman and Jim Broadbent.

Dwayne Johnson Circle G.I. Joe 2; Channing Tatum Also Looking Good For Encore

EXCLUSIVE: After seeing his stock rise from starring in Fast Five, Dwayne Johnson is in talks to join another sequel. I'm told Johnson is in discussions with Paramount to join G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes. That's the overhauled sequel that'll be directed 3D by Jon M. Chu, who helmed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Johnson's role is a character named Roadblock. I'm also hearing that Channing Tatum is a good bet to return. The picture has become an important one for Paramount, which had to scratch the Star Trek sequel from its summer 2012 schedule and will likely put this film in its place. After Johnson helped boost The Fast and the Furious franchise (he's also in talks to be part of the sixth film in that franchise), Paramount hopes he can help here as well. The studio had no comment.
