McConaughey, Maguire, Efron for 'Paperboy

Matthew McConaughey and Tobey Maguire are to star in a new sexual thriller from Precious director Lee Daniels.

The Paperboy has been adapted from Peter Dexter's 1995 novel and will also star Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara and High School Musical actor Zac Efron.

The book follows a reporter for the Miami Times who returns to his hometown in Florida to cover the imprisonment of a death row inmate.

"This is a good film for us," executive producer Avi Lerner said following the announcement. "A project that has Pedro Almodovar attached, is set in the steam South, directed by Lee Daniels, and with the incredible cast of Matthew, Tobey, Sofia and Zac."

Dexter had been developing an adaptation of the novel with Volver director Pedro Almodovar for the past ten years, before bringing Daniels on board at the beginning of 2011.

Monsters' sequel confirmed by producers

Vertigo Films has announced plans to make a sequel to Gareth Edwards's low-budget British movie Monsters.

Together with actor Scoot McNairy and Vertigo's Rupert Preston, Edwards will executive-produce the follow-up, which will have a budget of under $5 million - compared to the sub-$1 million of the first film, Variety reports.

Vertigo producer Allan Niblo said: "We're going to keep the same quality and intelligence of the first film and make it much more of a straight genre picture.

"Monsters 2 will expand the world created in the original movie whilst upping the action ante."

The film is set in a walled city and will shoot abroad - possibly in Argentina - in September and will reportedly feature a different variety of aliens to the first movie.

Nibble has described the sequel as a "Heart of Darkness story about two brothers finding each other in a world of monsters".

Two 'Snow White' films due in June 2012

Universal Pictures has announced plans to move the release of Snow White and the Huntsman to June 2012, just weeks before Relativity Media releases its own version of the Brothers Grimm classic.

Snow White and the Huntsman, which had been scheduled for release in December 2012, will star Twilight actress Kirsten Stewart opposite Thor star Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron.

The Rupert Sander-directed project offers a new take on the concept, in which the Huntsman disobeys orders to kill Snow White and instead begins training her to take on the evil queen.

"As Rupert and Joe were finalising casting and pre-production of Snow White and the Huntsman we realised that the ambitious and fully-formed world they had promised was blowing away expectations," Universal Chairman Adam Fogelson said as part of the announcement. "We're thrilled that Universal will be bringing this singular version of a timeless story almost seven months earlier than anticipated."

Meanwhile, Relativity Media has its own currently untitled Snow White project in production, which is also due out at the end of June next year.

Tarsem Singh is directing the film, which will star Lily Collins as Snow White, Armie Hammer as the prince and Julia Roberts as the evil queen.

Snow White and the Huntsman will now be released on June 1, 2012, while Relativity Media's Snow White is due in cinemas on June 29, 2012.

I will be surprised if both movies are still released in the same month come June next year.

Assassin's Creed', 'Splinter Cell' films due

Ubisoft is pursuing films based on Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon.

According to Variety, Ubisoft Motion Pictures has been working with the games' producers to write scripts accurate to the original games.

"Our strategy is not to diversify but to bolster the appeal of our franchises - that's why we want to make sure our films will reflect the brands accurately and consolidate our fan base while expanding beyond the games' primary target audience," said Ubisoft VP of marketing Jean de Rivieres.

Currently, films are being looked at for Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. The films will be produced by the recently formed Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Last year, Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and it will release Assassin's Creed: Revelation later this year.

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars and Splinter Cell 3D both released earlier this year for the Nintendo 3DS. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has been delayed to 2012.

Co-star Johnny Depp has said the new film will address the relationship between his character Tonto and the Lone Ranger.

Scream 5' anticipated by Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein has revealed that he is expecting a fifth instalment of the Scream franchise, despite relatively poor domestic box office results for Scream 4.

The Weinstein Company head, who has executive produced each of the horror films, explained that a further sequel is likely under the helm of director Wes Craven.

He told MTV: "I'm sure [Wes is] going to do a sequel, I'm sure he's going to do a sequel."

Weinstein added that despite poor sales in the US, the fourth movie has performed far better worldwide.

He said: "Foreign [sales] are so strong that we'll do over $100 million worldwide. It's at $90 million now, with about five or six major countries to go and a lot of small ones. We'll probably do $110 million.

"I wish it would have been better domestically. But it's not the worst thing in the world that's ever happened."

Craven had previously described making Scream 4 as "stressful". The movie managed to top the UK box office upon release.

Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg in 'Turkey Bowl'

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg could soon be teaming up again for another comedy.

The two actors were last seen together in The Other Guys, playing a pair of mismatched detectives investigating a huge financial cover-up.

Warner Bros' Turkey Bowl would see the two take on the roles of rival leaders of American football teams coming face to face during a traditional Thanksgiving tackle game, Deadline reports.

Alec Baldwin has apparently committed to playing Mark Wahlberg's father, with 30 Rock writer Robert Carlock penning the script.

The new film would also feature several cameos from actors appearing as members of the competing teams.

Both Wahlberg and Ferrell have been focused on making sequels to The Fighter and Anchorman respectively, with the latter saying he did not understand Paramount's indecision over financing a follow-up to Anchorman.

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie want screen reunion

Brad Pitt has revealed that he and partner Angelina Jolie are in the process of considering an on-screen reunion.

The couple famously met during the 2005 spy film Mr and Mrs Smith, in which they were praised for their chemistry, but have yet to star opposite each other again since.

"We're not ones to repeat ourselves but we'd like to," Pitt admitted during a recent interview with NPR. "Because right now we're hopscotching with films so one can be with the kids and one's free to work.

"And why aren't we doing them together? Why aren't we doing everything together?"

Pitt also revealed that the couple's six children definitely have an impact on the type of film they both prefer to take on.

"I'm painfully aware that my kids are going to see these when they're older, and I want them to understand something about their dad, and I want them to be proud of their dad," he added.

The couple are currently at the Cannes Film Festival with their family to promote Pitt's film The Tree of Life, as well as Jolie's animated adventure Kung Fu Panda 2.

Bridesmaids' sequel 'already being discussed

Paul Feig has revealed that a sequel to the new comedy Bridesmaids has already been discussed by studio execs.

Speaking to New York Magazine, the director confessed that he hoped a second film would be made as he feels it would be "a crime" not to utilize the comedic skills of the movie's stars - which include Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph - again in the future.

"I mean, it depends how we do in the next couple weeks, but I know there's definitely... it's already been brought up," he explained.

"So, um, you know, when you get a group that's this deep and this good, it's a crime to not use them again. You just want to make sure that you do it as well as you did the first one and try to make it better, even. So, we're up for the challenge."

Bridesmaids opened on May 13, entering the US box office in second place and pulling in $22.4 million over the weekend.

It will be released on June 24 in the UK.
