Bosworth, Lucas for Kerouac movie 'Big Sur



Twin Falls Idaho director Michael Polish has begun work on an adaptation of Jack Kerouac's 1962 novel Big Sur.

According to Deadline, Polish has cast Jean-Marc Barr, best known for his work in the films of Lars von Trier, as the film's lead role of Jack Kerouac himself.

Joining Barr will be Sweet Home Alabama lead Josh Lucas as Beat Generation muse Neal Cassady, and former Lois Lane Kate Bosworth as the two characters' love interest, Billie.

Big Sur follows Kerouac's alter ego Jack Duluoz as he moves from New York to California in an attempt to rebuild his life after struggling in the wake of the success of his acclaimed novel On The Road.

The film will also feature former Brothers & Sisters regular Balthazar Getty, ex-ER star Anthony Wards and The Crazies actress Radha Mitchell.

Walter Salles recently completed filming on a film adaptation of On The Road, starring Control actor Sam Riley opposite an all-star cast including Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Garrett Hedlund and Viggo Mortensen.

Polish will both write and direct Big Sur, although a release date has yet to be announced.

Taylor Kitsch "pumped" for 'John Carter



Taylor Kitsch has said that he is "pumped" after seeing the trailer for his upcoming pulp film John Carter of Mars.

The X-Men Origins: Wolverine star revealed that he recently saw the film's trailer and now cannot wait for audiences to get as excited about it as he is.

"I saw the official trailer hours ago. [I'm] over the moon," he told MTV News. "It's going to be a good ride. I'm pumped."

After refusing to elaborate on specific plot details, he added: "All I'll say is, good luck piecing it together. I would love to get going and tell you everything about it."

Directed by Andrew Stanton, John Carter of Mars was adapted from the series of Barsoom novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The film features an all-star cast including Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West and Mark Strong.

John Carter of Mars is due for release on March 9, 2012.

'Superman' leak reveals Clark Kent plot?



Details of the forthcoming Superman reboot have been leaked.

According to Baseline Movie System, the script focuses on Clark Kent as a roving journalist.

The outline revealed: "A young reporter named Clark Kent roams the world covering various news stories.

"When he is compelled to use his secret powers to intervene in a crisis in West Africa, he returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and the hero he was born to be."

Director Zach Snyder has been secretive about the plot so far, though has insisted that it will not impact on Smallville or the Superman that will feature in Justice League.

However, Superman star Diane Lane has said that the film will also show his early years as a teenager growing up in the small Midwest town.

Diane Lane: 'Superman covers range of years



Diane Lane has revealed that the new Superman film will show the life of Clark Kent from the beginning.

Speaking to E! Online, the Oscar-winning Unfaithful actress - who will portray Superman's adoptive mother Martha Kent in Man of Steel - explained some plot points from the highly secretive script.

"I'm really not allowed to talk much about it, I think, but it does cover the entire range of years, from infancy on," said Lane.

"I read the script under lock and key. I was locked in a room with the script and was only allowed three hours with it. I nailed it into my memory. I'm really excited."

Lane previously starred alongside Ben Affleck in Hollywoodland, a film documenting the mysterious death of George Reeves, the star of the 1950s Adventures of Superman television show.

She has previously promised that Superman will be a "wild ride".

Michael Shannon recently joined the cast as Superman villain General Zod.

Chris Klein officially boards 'American Pie 4



Chris Klein has officially boarded the forthcoming American Pie 4.

The actor's rep confirmed to Us Weekly that the 32-year-old has signed to reprise his role of Chris "Oz" Ostreicher for the comedy franchise's fourth big-screen outing.

Alyson Hannigan, Jason Biggs and Tara Reid are also attached to appear in the project, which centres on the group organising a ten-year high school reunion.

Klein recently completed a two-month rehab stay following a 96-hour jail sentence that he received after pleading no contest to a second DUI charge.

The actor filmed a guest spot on the season finale of Fox's The Good Guys after leaving rehab.

Klein's American Pie co-star Seann William Scott also signed on to the sequel after recently leaving a rehab facility.

Stallone looking for 'Expendables 2' director




Sylvester Stallone is currently putting together a list of potential directors to helm the forthcoming sequel to The Expendables, it has been claimed.

The Rocky star, who wrote and directed the 2010 ensemble action picture, has again insisted that he is not directing The Expendables 2, reports Deadline.

Stallone is also reportedly lobbying for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, who both appeared briefly in the original film, to star in the project.

Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews are expected to reprise their roles from the original movie, but an official cast list for the sequel has not yet been announced.

Studio Lionsgate announced that The Expendables 2 would arrive in cinemas in August 2012.

Stallone previously stated that he wanted to step aside from writing and directing duties on the second picture.

Jason Statham for thriller 'Parker'?



Jason Statham is in talks to star in forthcoming thriller Parker.

The movie is based on the book series by Donald Westlake, reports Variety.

The books follow a thief and conflicted serial killer who lives by a dubious moral code and is fuelled by revenge.

Ray director Taylor Hackford has signed to direct the picture from a script by John J. McLaughlin, who co-wrote Black Swan.

Statham is expected to reprise his role of Lee Christmas in The Expendables 2, opening August 2012.

The Mechanic star preciously claimed that he would only take on acting roles outside of the action genre if they were good enough.

Hunger Games' casts Thresh, Rue



Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg have joined the cast of The Hunger Games.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the two newcomers will play District 9 tributes Thresh and Rue in the Lionsgate picture.

Okeniyi can be seen in the short Eyes to See, as well as the upcoming horror movie Slew Hampshire, while Stenberg will appear in the two upcoming films Colombiana and Taste of Romance.

Okeniyi and Stenberg join actors Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, who will play Gale and Peeta respectively, as well as Winter's Bone actress Jennifer Lawrence, who will play the lead role of Katniss Everdeen.

Lawrence recently revealed that she feels connected to the character of Katniss, assuring fans that she is an admirer of the novel by Suzanne Collins on which the upcoming film is based.

The Hunger Games is scheduled for release on March 23, 2012.

Ryan Gosling 'not in talks for Lone Ranger



Ryan Gosling will not star in The Lone Ranger.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Blue Valentine star was never in talks to join the film, as his schedule for the coming year is full. He is currently in pre-production for Logan's Run and will also appear in George Clooney's political thriller The Ides of March.

It was reported yesterday that the actor was in negotiations to play the titular character. However, a representative for Gosling denied the reports earlier today.

The film has been in development for years. Johnny Depp is attached to star as the Lone Ranger's partner Tonto. Director Gore Verbinski will direct the project, marking his fifth collaboration with Depp.

Verbinski has said that the movie will tell the story of the Lone Ranger from Tonto's perspective. Meanwhile, Depp has promised that his version of The Lone Ranger will be funny.

The Lone Ranger is scheduled to open in theatres in 2014.

James Franco, Winona Ryder join 'The Stare



Actors James Franco and Winona Ryder have joined the movie The Stare.

According to Deadline, the film will begin shooting on May 6. It tells the story of a playwright that begins to question her sanity.

Ryder will portray the playwright, while Franco will play one of the performers in the playwright's production.

The Stare is written by Franco's former New York University teacher Jay Anania. Franco will produce the film in addition to starring in it.

The Your Highness actor will also star in the upcoming film Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It has also been reported that he will deliver a masterclass at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Meanwhile, Ryder most recently starred in the critically-acclaimed film Black Swan. The actress played an aging ballerina who loses her grip on reality.

Ryder recently revealed that she was thrilled for her Black Swan co-star Natalie Portman's pregnancy. Portman announced that she was expecting her first child in late December.

Joshua Jackson for Bruce Willis gambling film?



Joshua Jackson is in negotiations to join the cast of a gambling film with Rebecca Hall and Bruce Willis.

Lay the Favourite depicts the true life of cocktail waitress-turned-professional gambler Beth Raymer who has a personal crisis after she falls in love, Variety reports.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Rebecca Hall is likely to take on the role of Raymer.

Stephen Frears, director of Billy Elliot, is currently attached to helm the project.

The Fringe actor is currently working on the film adaptation of the cult British television series UFO, playing a pilot who joins a secret defence organisation that operates under a Hollywood studio.

Elizabeth Banks to join 'Hunger Games'




Elizabeth Banks has signed up to the cast of Hunger Games.

The actress will join Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in her role as escort and chaperone Effie Trinket, Variety reports.

Her character will guide the young 'tributes' - young people chosen to take part in a deadly televised event - to the central city Capitol, where they will take part in and witness games which could prove fatal.

Hunger Games is based on the first book of the trilogy by sci-fi writer Suzanne Collins.

Other new members of the cast have been added, with relative unknowns in two supporting roles.

Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg will appear as the 'tributes' Thresh and Rue in the fantasy adaptation.

Banks will next be seen in Movie 43, which is a series of comedy segments featuring Emma Stone and Kristen Bell.

Thomas Jane to join Stallone's 'Headshot



Thomas Jane has signed up to the odd pair action movie Headshot.

The film will team the actor up with Sylvester Stallone, who plays a New Orleans hitman forced to work with Jane's New York police detective to solve two murders.

Speaking to JoBlo, Jane said: "He's a hitman, I'm a cop, and we're just opposite in every f**king way, and we need each other to get this job done."

The script by The Messenger writer Alessandro Camon is based on the three-part graphic novel series by Alexis Nolent.

Jane will next be seen in LOL Laughing Out Loud with Miley Cyrus.

He recently said that Cyrus is a "classy lady" after spending time with her on set.

Rebecca Romijn joins Tyler Perry's 'Good Deeds



Rebecca Romijn has boarded Tyler Perry's forthcoming movie Good Deeds.

Perry will appear in the film, in which Romijn will play a corporate executive who becomes a mother, reports Deadline.

The Lionsgate/34th Street Films picture will begin production on April 25 in Atlanta.

Romijn recently admitted that her twin daughters Dolly and Charlie are currently going through the 'terrible twos'.

The actress is perhaps best known for portraying mutant Mystique in the X-Men movies, a role that Jennifer Lawrence will play in the forthcoming X-Men: First Class.

Perry's previous films include For Coloured Girls and I Can Do Bad All by Myself.

Thor', 'Captain America' sequels confirmed



Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige has confirmed that sequels to upcoming superhero blockbusters Thor and Captain America will be produced.

Speaking to D23 Magazine, Feige said that the storyline for the Captain America follow-up will take the action away from the World War II setting and into the present day.

"Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own," he commented.

Thor opens on April 27, while Captain America hits cinemas in July. The characters will then unite with Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye for Marvel ensemble film The Avengers in 2012.

Feige added that he wants The Avengers to provide a launching pad for more Marvel movie spinoffs.

"We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film - Black Widow, Hawkeye and the spy organisation, S.H.I.E.L.D. - all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films," he explained.

'Fast & Furious 5' sequel in the works



Universal has confirmed plans to make a sequel to Fast & Furious 5 (aka Fast Five).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has hired Chris Morgan - who penned the third, fourth and fifth Fast and the Furious entries - to write the script for Fast Six.

Universal co-chairman Donna Langley praised Morgan for playing an "integral" role in the Vin Diesel-led series.

Fast & Furious 5 sees Diesel's Dom Toretto and Paul Walker's Brian O'Conner on the run from federal agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). Series veterans Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Sung Kang also star in the action film.

Fast & Furious 5 opens in the UK tomorrow and in the US on April 29.

Catherine Zeta-Jones for 'Rock of Ages'



Catherine-Zeta Jones has boarded the cast of forthcoming movie musical Rock of Ages.

The actress will join Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Tom Cruise and Mary J Blige in the forthcoming film version of the Broadway stage musical.

Director Adam Shankman confirmed the casting on Twitter on Wednesday.

"Yea, it's true! My darling Catherine zeta jones (sic) is joining the #rockofagesmovie cast as my new villain! I'm super busy, so read about it online," Shankman tweeted.

Shankman said that Zeta-Jones's villain role was specifically created for the movie and was not in the stage production, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"It's a character that we only really came to in the last month. The character was invented to streamline the stories," Shankman explained.

The director described the character as the love child of Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant.

"She is this hardcore, moral majority, arch-conservative who wants to shut down rock 'n' roll in the great city of Los Angeles," the filmmaker added.

Shankman said that the production was "blessed" to have Zeta-Jones join the cast.

Rock of Ages is billed as a love story told through 1980s metal anthems by Bon Jovi, Journey and Poison, among others.

Zeta-Jones recently expressed hope that her struggle with bipolar II disorder will inspire other sufferers to seek treatment.

Willow Shields for Primrose in 'Hunger Games



Willow Shields has boarded the forthcoming big-screen version of The Hunger Games.

The young actress has won the role of Primrose Everdeen in the film, which is based on the first book of the young adult novel series by fantasy writer Suzanne Collins, reports Variety.

Shields joins the previously cast Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson in the project.

One Tree Hill actress Leven Rambin was recently cast in the role of Glimmer.

Director Gary Ross is helming the movie, which is scheduled to begin production later this year.

Shields has appeared on In Plain Sight and starred in the TV movie Beyond the Blackboard.

Lindsay Lohan confirmed for 'Gotti' role



Lindsay Lohan has signed to take on the role of Kim Gotti in the upcoming mob family biopic Gotti: Three Generations.

The actress was previously linked to the part of Victoria Gotti, though it was later reported that she had dropped out of discussions on Wednesday after being unable to reach an agreement with project executives.

However, she has since signed a deal to take on the role of alleged mob boss John Gotti's wife Kim not only in Three Generations but another project entitled Mob Street written by screenwriter Chazz Palminteri.

"We're very pleased to have Lindsay on board for both of these films," executive producer Marc Fiore told US Weekly in a statement.

"She has been very enthusiastic about the Gotti project, and after resuming discussions with her, we were impressed by her commitment to the film and felt she would be a perfect Kim Gotti."

Lohan also expressed her excitement about the role, telling The AP: "I think it's such an iconic story. I think it's a great story to be told. I'm honoured to be working with John Travolta and Joe Pesci.

"I'm really excited to be back on set and clear up all the misinterpretations about me and show this is what I love to do."

John Travolta previously signed on for the role of John Gotti in the film. Joe Pesci will also star.

Melissa George, Julia Stiles join 'Between Us



Melissa George and Julia Stiles have signed up to star in Between Us.

The upcoming film, which is described as a dark comedy exploring the friendship between two bitter married couples who reunite later in life to reflect on their history, is an adaptation of an off-Broadway play by Joe Hortua.

According to Reuters, George and Stiles will appear alongside The Green Hornet actor David Harbour and Private Practice cast member Taye Diggs.

George is best known for her roles in Home and Away, Mulholland Drive and Friends, while Stiles has previously starred in the Bourne film trilogy, 10 Things I Hate About You and Save The Last Dance.

Australian-born George recently returned to her home country to film ABC drama series The Slap, but said that she found it "hard" because she was "missing" her husband, Chilean filmmaker Claudio Dabed.

Stiles was meant to be starring in new Broadway play Fat Pig alongside Dane Cook soon, but it was announced last month that the production had been pushed back a year. It is now slated to premiere in spring 2012.

Filming for Between Us is scheduled to start in May in Los Angeles.
