Depp: 'Pirates 4 will be less confusing'

Johnny Depp has revealed that the fourth film in the popular Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise will be much easier to understand than the previous entries in the series.

Depp, who reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for the film, has claimed that efforts were made to make Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides simpler than its predecessors, which were criticised for having overly-complicated plots.

"The thing with Pirates 4, I felt like we owed it to people to entertain them," Depp told Empire. "Dead Man's Chest and At World's End became quite... sub-plotty.

"All these people went to see them two or three times just to figure out what was happening," Depp added. "This one is a little closer in tone to the first [movie]."

Also returning for the new film are Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa and Keith Richards as Captain Teague.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled to be released in 3D on May 20

Damon: 'I'll do my own Bourne movie'

Matt Damon has teased that he may return to the Bourne franchise with the series' previous director Paul Greengrass.

The actor reiterated claims that he wasn't told that upcoming sequel The Bourne Legacy would continue without himself or Greengrass - who helmed prior instalments Ultimatum and Supremacy - and commented that it would technically be possible for the duo to make their "own" film.

He revealed to Empire: "No one told me, literally nobody called me. People think I have inside information, but you can get a sense of where I am in the pecking order.

"I'd do it again with Paul. Universal doesn't actually own the Bourne character - the estate does - so technically I could go to Warner Bros... and Universal could read about it online."

Damon previously clarified that he is not against the release of the latest Bourne movie, which will be directed by Tony Gilroy.

Ares was originally played by Tamer Hassan in the 2010 film, and there has yet to be an announcement as to why the role is being recast for the sequel.

Script for 'Ghostbusters 3' 'is complete'

Screenwriter and director Ivan Reitman has confirmed that a treatment for Ghostbusters 3 has now been completed.

According to the Associated Press, a "very good script" for the third film has been sent to series star Bill Murray to read.

The report claims that although Murray has yet to read it, Reitman believes that the script is exactly what they have been looking for.

The director, who helmed the first two films in the Ghostbusters series, is also known for family comedies such as Twins and Junior.

Production on a third Ghostbusters film has been in various stages of development since the release of Ghostbusters 2 back in 1989, but several issues have previously stopped the project getting underway.

Great roles actors have turned down

Julia Roberts
She may have had 'Pretty Woman', but Julia Roberts could have cornered the romantic comedy market all by herself if she hadn't turned down the chance to star in 'Sleepless in Seattle', 'Shakespeare in Love' and 'While You Were Sleeping'. While her loss would eventually be Meg Ryan, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sandra Bullock's gain, it wasn't just romance films she was turning down – she also decided to pass on erotic thriller 'Basic Instinct'.
The 1992 move made Sharon Stone a household name.

Bruce Willis
Romantic weepie 'Ghost' could have been slightly different if Bruce Willis had played the lead character. However, he wasn't sure about playing a ghost – much to Patrick Swayze's delight.
Maybe realising his mistake, he would eventually play a member of the undead in the classic 'The Sixth Sense'.

David Schwimmer
'Friends' was still going strong at the tail end of the 90s, and those that weren't named Jennifer Aniston were still getting sent movie scripts. One called 'Men in Black' headed Schwimmer's way. The part was of J, the younger of the two lead agents. However, Schwimmer decided it wasn't for him, allowing Will Smith a chance to take not only the role but pretty much announce to the world that he was a genuine movie star.

Sir Sean Connery
The Scottish actor has made a few film choice errors – most notably passing on the chance to be in two of the biggest blockbuster series in recent history.
While you can't now imagine anyone else playing Gandalf other than Sir Ian McKellen, Connery was in fact the first actor to be offered the role. However, the thought of filming three films back-to-back didn't appeal to Connery, nor did the fact that he didn't understand the script.
He also turned down the chance to play Morpheus in 'The Matrix' because he, yet again, couldn't get his head around the story.
Fearing another blockbuster oversight he decided to make 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'. The result? A superhero film that was not only a huge flop, but promptly saw him retire from acting.

Will Smith
Sir Sean Connery wasn't the only one to have been confused by 'The Matrix's script. Will Smith passed on the chance to play Neo – a role that became an iconic one for Keanu Reeves.
Smith would later explain, “You know, 'The Matrix' is a difficult concept to pitch. In the pitch, I just didn’t see it. I watched Keanu’s performance – and very rarely do I say this – but I would have messed it up. I would have absolutely messed up 'The Matrix'. At that point I wasn’t smart enough as an actor to let the movie be. Whereas Keanu was smart enough to just let it be. Let the movie and the director tell the story, and don’t try and perform every moment.”

Joaquin Phoenix
Before Joaquin Phoenix wowed critics in 'Gladiator', the actor was desperate to make his mark on the big screen following his accomplished performance in 'To Die For' years earlier.
While he rejected roles in teen horror films like 'Scream', he also passed on two iconic roles of the 90s.
He had a meeting with Paul Thomas Anderson to discuss playing the lead role in 'Boogie Nights'. While Anderson was impressed with Phoenix, the intense actor was unsure about playing a porn star and ended up passing on the project – much to Mark Wahlberg's eternal thanks.
There was also a chance for Phoenix to play Ed Norton's part in 'American History X'. But again, the subject matter proved too distasteful for him and he promptly rejected it.

Alec Baldwin
Alec Baldwin must curse under his breath at the mere mention of Harrison Ford. The '30 Rock' star was the first to play Tom Clancy's fictional CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the thriller 'The Hunt for Red October'. Reportedly fearing that Baldwin didn’t have enough box office appeal to lead a potential James Bond-esque franchise the studio instead turned to Ford for the two Jack Ryan sequels.
And it was to get worse for Baldwin, who turned down the plum role of Dr Richard Kimble in the movie version of the hit 60s show 'The Fugitive' – a role that eventually went to Ford!

Tom Hanks
Hank was offered the lead roles in 'Field of Dreams' and 'Shawshank Redemption', but eventually passed on the projects.
Both would have played up to Hank's everyman persona, but how different would 'Jerry Maguire' have been if Hanks had played the arrogant and unravelling sports agent?
We'll never know, as Cameron Crowe had to turn to his second choice instead after Hanks said no. It ended up being arguably Tom Cruise's greatest role.

Warren Beatty
Warren Beatty has made some great films, and some not so great ones ('Dick Tracy' anyone?). However, it's obvious he's not the greatest at picking scripts – rejecting the chance to play Burt Reynolds’ character in 'Boogie Nights' and James Caan's career comeback role in 'Misery'. He also turned down Robert Redford's part in 'The Sting' and the role of Gordon Gekko in 'Wall Street'.
Wait, there's more. Beatty also felt that the role of Bill in Quentin Tarantino's 'Kill Bill' wasn't for him.

I just don't think Will Smith would of been right for the Matrix role so its a good job he passed on it.

'Pineapple Express 2' may be in the works

Evan Goldberg has revealed that a Pineapple Express 2 may be on the way.

Goldberg, the screenwriter behind The Green Hornet, spoke to Screen Rant about the possibility of a crossover sequel for Pineapple Express and Superbad.

"Well, we toyed with that idea right after Pineapple came out. We thought that people would enjoy McLovin and Franco together; but we're never going to touch Superbad ever again, that's a terrible idea," said Goldberg. "I'm even hesitant to make Pineapple 2, but I'm loosening up to it as of, like, the last few weeks."

Goldberg continued: "Everyone has always wanted to do it. Me and Seth [Rogen] were very hesitant, but frankly I was the driving force behind that hesitancy... Great, great films don't have sequels."

The Green Hornet opens in theatres on January 14.

Stan Lee to cameo in 'Spider-Man' reboot

Stan Lee has announced that he will make his traditional cameo appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

Lee, who is the co-creator of the Spider-Man comic, revealed the news on Twitter on January 9.

"It's been an exciting week for me, but I got a phone call last night that really flipped me out! I'm bustin' to tell you about it," wrote Lee. "My pal Avi Arad, producer of the new Spider-Man movie, called to tell me how excited he is about the film."

He continued: "Then came the surprise - Avi told me my cameo is all set for Spidey 4, and when he described it, I realised it's the best, most unusual one yet! I wish I could tell you what my cameo is, but that would kill the surprise. But I'll tell you this much - I'm finally in an action scene!"

Spider-Man is scheduled to open in theatres July 3, 2012.

Charlize Theron approached for 'Alien'

Charlize Theron has been approached to star in Ridley Scott's Alien prequel, says Vulture.

The Oscar-winning actress, who recently turned down a role in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar project, is reportedly in line to play spaceship crewmember Vickers.

Scott had allegedly wanted to cast Michelle Yeoh in the part, but backers 20th Century Fox have been pushing for a bigger name in the role to support potential lead Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), the director's favoured choice for the character Elizabeth Shaw.

Inglourious Basterds star Michael Fassbender is also said to be in negotiations to play an android among the ship's crew.

Dark Knight Rises' to audition actresses

The Dark Knight Rises is to shortly begin screen testing for two lead actress roles, it has been reported.

Sources claim that Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley and Jessica Biel are due to audition for a part in the upcoming Batman picture within the next two weeks.

Relative newcomers Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley are also vying for a role in the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

Gemma Arterton was apparently scheduled to try out for the film, but is now unlikely to be able to commit to shooting after securing the lead in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

One of the characters thought to be up for grabs is Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra's - who was played by Liam Neeson in 2005's Batman Begins. Talia recurs in the comics as a love interest for Bruce Wayne, and ultimately gives birth to Wayne's son.

Hathaway and Knightley were first linked to the Christopher Nolan movie in November. Hathaway cryptically declined to comment on the speculation last month.

Mara, whose sister Rooney is currently shooting the David Fincher adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, recently appeared in 127 Hours. Riley is dating confirmed Dark Knight Rises actor Tom Hardy, and has mostly featured in television roles.

Shooting on the superhero film is due to begin in May, with a view to a July 2012 release.

Ghostbusters 3' 'won't happen without Murry

Ghostbusters 3 will be cancelled if Bill Murray turns down the chance to reprise his role as Peter Venkman.

According to Deadline, studio Sony Pictures is unwilling to risk mounting a second sequel in the big budget comedy franchise unless Murray agrees to join old cast-members Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

"The studio won't even think about forward on a $150 million film unless Bill has a closed deal and a commitment," an insider is quoted as saying. "It's too huge a risk to do any meaningful prep, hoping he shows up."

Aykroyd and Ramis recently delivered a revised script, by Office duo Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to Murray, who is notoriously difficult to contact as he has no agent or publicist.

Murray has previously dismissed the notion of starring in a third Ghostbusters outing, however his involvement in the 2009 video game and an appearance in a boiler suit and replica proton pack during last year's Spike TV Scream Awards have indicated that he may be willing to come back.

Director Ivan Reitman is on board to steer Ghostbusters 3, which Sony hopes to release in cinemas in December 2012.

Diaz 'would love more Charlie's Angels'

Cameron Diaz has admitted that she would "love" to appear in a new Charlie's Angels film.

Diaz, who featured in the 2000 film and it's 2003 sequel alongside Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, told E! that movie bosses could decide to recast the trio.

"I would love to!" she said when asked if she would reprise her role. "Of course I would. Why wouldn't I? It'd be fun!"

She continued: "I don't know if we'll do it. I mean, we played the movie as the new crop of Charlie's Angels and we never were trying to be [or] pretend we were the other girls. So it might just be time for a new crop of girls to come on."

Diaz appears in action-adventure remake The Green Hornet, which opens on January 14 in US and UK cinemas
