Sam Rockwell 'wants superhero role'

Moon star Sam Rockwell has admitted that he wants to play a superhero.

The actor, who portrayed villain Justin Hammer in last summer's blockbuster Iron Man 2, told Empire that he believes he would make a "great" comic book hero.

He said: "I'd love to play a superhero. I know it'd take some doing to convince some people, but I think I'd be a great one."

The 42-year-old added that he has already played Batman in the spoof short film Robin's Big Date.

"I've played Batman, but I've never had superpowers and I'd love to get some. It's about time."

Rockwell was reportedly in the running to play Tony Stark in Iron Man before Robert Downey Jr. was cast in the role.

January Jones "intimidated" by 'X-Men' role

January Jones has admitted that she had reservations about playing X-Men: First Class character Emma Frost.

The Mad Men star told the Los Angeles Times that she was initially reluctant to sign up for the mutant role because the prequel film's storyline takes place in the same decade as her AMC show.

"When I heard that this instalment of X-Men was going to take place in the '60s I was like, 'Oh my God, you must be kidding me!'" Jones said. “But I read the script and familiarised myself with the character of Emma Frost. She’s so, so far from Betty and from Mad Men, and it takes place in that time but it doesn’t feel like a period movie."

Jones added that Frost's skimpy costumes in the Marvel comics books left her feeling intimidated.

"It's a lot of very body-conscious stuff," she commented. "If you look at the comic book, she’s barely dressed. She’s got quite the bod, which is very intimidating."

X-Men: First Class will open in cinemas this summer.

Jolie's 'Cleopatra' eyes Paul Greengrass

The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass is reportedly the frontrunner to direct Angelina Jolie in Cleopatra.

According to Deadline, producer Scott Rudin and several of the filmmakers are in favour of Greengrass taking the director's chair for the 3D historical epic, which studio bosses at Sony Pictures are already comparing to Gone With The Wind.

Rudin revealed that the project will be a "revisionist" and "grown-up sophisticated version" that bears little resemblance to Elizabeth Taylor's 1963 biopic.

"She's not a sex kitten - she's a politician, strategist, warrior," he said. "In the Joseph Mankiewicz movie, Elizabeth Taylor is a seductress, but the histories of Cleopatra have been written by men. This is the first to be written by a woman."

Speaking about the source material for the film, Stacy Schiff's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Cleopatra: A Life, Rudin said: "It felt like such a blow-the-doors-off-the-hinges idea of how to tell it - impossible to resist. We're pretty close. A lot of directors want to do it, but there is only a handful we'll make it with."

Roven: 'No Batman, Superman crossover'

The Dark Knight Rises and Superman producer Charles Roven has dismissed the possibility of a crossover between the franchises.

Speaking with Shock Till You Drop, Roven confirmed that Zack Snyder's Superman reboot will not take place in the same universe as Nolan's third Batman film.

"Right now the Batman lives in his world and the Superman lives in his world," he said. "Those stories are those stories and we haven't thought beyond each individual picture."

The producer went on to say that neither project has entered pre-production yet. "They're both going to be long shoots," he added. "I'm sure there's going to be some overlap, but hopefully there'll be as little overlap as possible."

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to arrive in theatres in July next year. Superman will follow in December 2012.

Brad Pitt eyeing John Lennon role?

Brad Pitt is allegedly in "secret talks" to play John Lennon in a biopic of the late Beatles star, according to the Daily Express.

The actor, who reportedly wants to produce and act in the feature, is said to have "won over" Lennon's widow Yoko Ono when the pair met recently to discuss the project.

Pitt is supposedly intending to sing Lennon's songs himself instead of using backing tracks.

"Brad already has a writer working on the script. And Yoko has given the project her blessing so long as it's true to John's life," an insider is quoted as saying.

"Brad wants to do all the singing himself and plans to take voice lessons. If he can't pull it off they'll use John's own voice. Brad has also been immersing himself in videos and books so he can get Lennon's mannerisms down pat."

Previous actors to have portrayed Lennon include Ian Hart (The Hours And Times, Backbeat), Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) and Christopher Eccleston (Lennon Naked)

Nolan won't rule out 'Inception' sequel

Christopher Nolan has refused to completely rule out revisiting Inception for a sequel.

Nolan, who wrote and directed last summer's Leonardo DiCaprio thriller, said that he has "always liked the potential of the world" he created.

"It's an infinite, or perhaps I should say an infinitesimal world that fascinates me," Nolan told Deadline. "At the moment, we're exploring a video game, which is something I've been very interested in doing for a number of years. This lends itself nicely to that."

The filmmaker explained that, although Inception was designed as a one-off film, he doesn't know where his "creative interests" will take him in the future.

"As far as sequels go, I think of Inception as one film, but that's how I approach all my films," he commented. "When I was making Batman Begins, I certainly didn't have any thoughts of doing a second Batman film, let alone a third.

"You never quite know where your creative interests are going to take you, but when I was making Inception I viewed it as a stand-alone movie."
