About Back in the Game

Back in the Game Premiered on ABC on September 25, 2013

About the Show:
Terry Gannon Jr. (Maggie Lawson) was an All Star softball player until life threw her a couple curve balls: a baby, a lost college scholarship and a loser for a husband. After striking out on her own, Terry and her son Danny (Griffin Gluck) move in with her estranged father, Terry Sr. aka “The Cannon” (James Caan). The Cannon is an opinionated, beer-guzzling, ex-athlete who never quite made the cut as a single father or professional baseball player. As hard as Terry tries to keep Danny away from the sports-driven lifestyle of her youth, Danny wants to play Little League. His stunning lack of baseball skills (he doesn’t even know which hand the mitt goes on) makes him the laughing stock of the baseball field and his grandfather’s living room. When Danny and a group of other athletically-challenged hopefuls fail to make the team, Danny’s disappointment forces Terry to face her past. So when a wealthy neighbor volunteers to finance a team for the rejected kids, Terry reluctantly offers to coach the team of misfits.

Back In The Game stars Maggie Lawson (Psych) as Terry, Jr.; James Caan (Las Vegas) as Terry "The Cannon" Gannon, Sr.; Lenora Crichlow (Being Human, Fast Girls) as Gigi; Griffin Gluck (Private Practice) as Danny;  Ben Koldyke (Big Love) as Dick;  Kennedy Waite (I-Doll) as Vanessa;  J.J. Totah (Jessie) as Michael; and Cooper Roth as David.

About Getting On (US)

Getting On (US) Premiered on HBO on November 24, 2013

About the Show:
At the Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit of Mt. Palms Hospital in Long Beach, Cal., the staff attends to the needs of female patients who are often “getting on” in years, while dealing with the challenges of a health-care bureaucracy in need of an overhaul. Even as they attempt to serve their charges under less-than-ideal circumstances, the lives of this ragtag crew are complicated by conflicting agendas, both professional and personal.

This new comedy series GETTING ON, based on the BBC series of the same name, begins its six-episode first season SUNDAY, NOV. 24 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. Created for American television by Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer (co-creators of the acclaimed HBO series “Big Love”), the show follows the daily lives of overworked nurses and doctors as they struggle with the darkly comic realities of tending compassionately to their aging charges in a rundown, red-tape-filled hospital extended-care wing, blending outrageous humor with unexpected moments of tenderness.

Cast regulars on GETTING ON include: Laurie Metcalf (three Emmys® for “Roseanne”) as Dr. Jenna James, who once hoped to become a medical-research star, but has instead been sentenced to purgatory at the facility; Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”) as Nurse Dawn, whose personal shortcomings and obsession with finding a boyfriend undermine her need to excel in her job; Niecy Nash (“Reno 911!”) as Nurse DiDi, whose easy rapport with patients should be an example to her superiors, but isn’t; and Mel Rodriguez (“Community”) as Patsy De La Serda, a reform-minded supervising nurse of ambiguous sexuality. Guest stars include Molly Shannon, Daniel Stern, Harry Dean Stanton, June Squibb and Irma P. Hall.

Season 1

Episode 1: Born on the Fourth of July (Nov/24/2013)
It's July 4th at the Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit of Mt. Palms Hospital. On her first day of work, nurse DiDi Ortley discovers feces on a lounge chair, and is torn between the conflicting orders of veteran nurse Dawn Forchette, who wants to file an "incident report" before removing it; temporary medical director Dr. Jenna James, who is in need of a stool sample for her medical study; and supervising nurse Beverly Raymes, who has had endemic issues with floor cleanliness and wants the seat sterilized. In a heated argument with Nurse Raymes, Dr. James has a public meltdown and ends up permanently assigned to this dead-end job. Meanwhile, the staff tries to determine the identity of an Asian woman who was found wandering on a highway, and debate what to do with a deceased patient's birthday cake.

Episode 2: If You're Going To San Francisco (Dec/01/2013)
In the wake of Nurse Raymes' departure, Patsy De La Serda, a new supervising nurse, joins the Billy Barnes staff with a customer-centric, "cruise-line based" agenda that he's convinced will improve ward ratings. Patsy soon learns that managing patients - especially highly uncooperative and feisty ones like Varla - isn't necessarily improved through customer-service metrics. Nurse Dawn and Patsy get off on the wrong foot, but it's soon evident that there is a special spark between them. Donna, a more docile patient, wins DiDi's affections and displays impressive karaoke skills.

Episode 3: Make Someone Happy (Dec/08/2013)
DiDi ends up in “conflict resolution” after Patsy files a grievance against her for inappropriate remarks. Dawn learns that intimacy with a co-worker is no guarantee of evaluation immunity. Dr. James and Patsy go head-to-head when she decides to skip the “Make Someone Happy” orientation to present her stool research at a Cleveland medical convention. Birdy, a patient, sends shock waves through the ward when she and her gentleman caller, Leonard, are caught in a romantic situation. Patsy announces a ward-wide deep cleaning

Episode 4: Dumped (Dec/15/2013)
Dr. James decides to implement a geriatric exercise program in the ward, upsetting Patsy, whose "Make Someone Happy" initiative now includes a live pianist and a fountain. DiDi discloses Patsy's relationship with Dawn to her union rep as proof that her homophobic comment wasn't serious. A homeless woman, and her accompanying stench, is suspiciously dumped in the ward, prompting a staff investigation. Phyllis arrives to check on her dying mother. Dawn wins the grand prize in Dr. James' charity raffle. Dr. James considers relocating after learning she must re-apply for a job she never wanted in the first place.

Episode 5: Nightshift (Dec/22/2013)
DiDi's serene evening shift is turned upside down by the arrival of a new Swedish-speaking patient and several unwelcome inebriated visitors. Stopping by after a lamentable dinner party, Dr. James attends to her drunken husband Richard's ingrown toenail while dreaming of a Cleveland fresh start; a woozy Dawn looks for stopgap comforts in the lounge after an unsettling evening with Patsy; and an elderly Swedish tourist shows off her gymnastic chops while complaining about her ruined vacation.

Episode 6: The Concert (Dec/29/2013)
Phyllis gets the runaround as her mother's condition worsens, improves and worsens again. Jenna tries to leverage her Cleveland opportunity into concessions from Dr. Stickley. DiDi's patience wears thin after a debt remains unpaid. Staff members point fingers at each other after an equipment malfunction injures Cordelia, an irascible patient. The staff makes up when a patient dies and comes together to perform their weekly Caregiver Concert for everyone in the ward.
