Sutherland 'doesn't want Bauer happy ending'

Kiefer Sutherland has said that he does not want his 24 character Jack Bauer to walk off into a perfect life.

The series finale of the Fox show aired in May and the script of a planned feature film spinoff has reportedly been completed.

Discussing his preferred fate for Bauer with The Independent, Sutherland suggested that he would like him to be killed off after saving the world from a nuclear disaster one last time.

"Do I think he should go off to the countryside and have a perfect life? No!" Sutherland said. "Jack is walking across the street and he gets hit by a car! Wouldn't that be a great ending?"

Of the decision to stop making the TV show, Sutherland explained: "Even in the second series, people were saying, 'How many bad days can this guy have?' So, creatively, the series had to end for us to go on and make the film."

Zack Snyder has promised that his Superman movie will be "different" from previous Man of Steel incarnations, yet stay true to tradition.

In an interview with Empire, the Watchmen director said that David Goyer's script doesn't alter the DC Comics "canon".

"It's a different story," Snyder said. "I won't say there's a break from the canon or anything like that, but there is definitely an approach that makes you go, 'Okay, that's a way to get at it.'"

He continued: "David is very respectful of the canon and stuff like that. It has its roots in the canon and again, like I say, it has a point of view about who he is. I'm being cryptic, I know, but it's the best I can do."

Asked if his movie will track the Man of Steel's early years, Snyder replied: "I think it's early to say. I don't know."

The director also described rumours of the comic book hero facing General Zod as "just wrong", adding that "the internet has no idea what's going on".

Mary Jane 'not in Spider-Man reboot'

The character of Mary Jane Watson will reportedly not appear in Marc Webb's upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man franchise.

Apollo 18' and 'Dark Moon' 'may clash'

Timur Bekmambetov's next science fiction project reportedly follows an uncannily similar premise to a separate film being developed by Warner Bros.

Bekmambetov's Apollo 18 is currently in the middle of production with director Trevor Caewood, having been picked up by the Weinstein Company for release in cinemas at some point in 2011.

However, Coming Soon reports that the "found footage" film, which tells an alien conspiracy story about the cancelled NASA mission, follows a very similar story to Warner Bros' upcoming film Dark Moon.

Warner Bros' offering also revolves around the popular "found footage" narrative, and focuses on a conspiracy surrounding the similarly-cancelled Apollo 17 mission.

If Dark Moon is also released in 2011, it could follow the familiar trend of opposing studios releasing similar films close together, most notably with Armageddon and Deep Impact in 1998.
