Warner Bros confirms 'Hobbit' cast

Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage have been confirmed to star in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.

In a statement, Warner Bros verified rumours that Sherlock star Freeman will portray Bilbo Baggins in the J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation, which will be split across two films.

Spooks star Armitage has landed the role of Thorin Oakenshield, the Company of Dwarves' leader who attempts to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon.

Director Jackson said: "Despite the various rumours and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us.

"There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave - exactly like Bilbo - and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit."

On Armitage, Jackson added: "Richard is one of the most exciting and dynamic actors working on screen today and we know he is going to make an amazing Thorin Oakensheild. We cannot wait to start this adventure with him and feel very lucky that one of the most beloved characters in Middle-earth is in such good hands."

Being Human's Aidan Turner and Rob Kazinsky, who played Sean Slater in EastEnders, complete the Company of Dwarves as Kili and Fili respectively.

"Adian is a wonderfully gifted young actor who hails from Ireland," Jackson added. "I'm sure he will bring enormous heart and humour to the role of Kili.

"Rob is an extremely talented young actor with a huge career in front of him. I'm thrilled that he has agreed to take on the role of Fili. Besides his talent as an actor, Rob is also a champion sword fighter - I'm looking forward to seeing the damage he can do to a horde of marauding goblins!"

Also appearing in the movies are 24's Graham McTavish as Dwalin, John Callen from Power Rangers Jungle Fury as Oin, All Saints' Stephen Hunter as Bombur, King Kong actor Mark Hadlow as Dori, and Peter Hambleton from The Strip as Gloin.

The films, to be produced by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Carolynne Cunningham, are scheduled for release in December 2012 and December 2013.

Reynolds: 'Deadpool will be nasty'

Ryan Reynolds has suggested that the upcoming film adaptation of the Marvel Comics character Deadpool will be "a nasty piece of work".

Total Film has quoted Reynolds as revealing that the film may even receive an R rating.

"The script is going to be a little harder [than the comics]," Reynolds said. "The script right now is walking a tightrope between [PG-13] and an R rating."

The actor originally starred as Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and will reprise his role for the upcoming spinoff.

Reynolds also added of the adaptation: "The fourth wall is broken many times in the movie - and it's important that we do so. I can't emphasise enough how closely the tone of the comic is being followed in the film script. But it's a nasty piece of work and that's what's important."

Warner Bros wants 'Inception' sequel?

Warner Bros has reportedly asked Christopher Nolan to make a sequel to his summer blockbuster Inception.

Inception, a film that follows a band of thieves who extract information from their victims' dreams, earned $810 million (£514.7 million) worldwide. Consequently, Warner Bros wants Nolan make a sequel, reports What’s Playing.

"Doesn't make a lick of sense creatively," revealed an insider at Warner Bros. "But financially? Well, it made a lot of money for them. Can't imagine Nolan wanting to do a sequel, let alone direct one. Also don't imagine [Warner's president] Jeff [Robinov] would want to p*ss off Nolan by doing one around him. All interest is on the studio side at this stage."

According to Collider, Nolan has not participated in any of these discussions. At present, Nolan’s next project is the untitled Batman 3 movie.

Morgan: 'James Bond lacks realism'

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan has claimed that the James Bond series lacks realism.

The Queen and Frost/Nixon writer, who was hired to pen a script for the 23rd franchise instalment before MGM's financial problems postponed the project, told indieWire that he struggles to "still believe a British secret agent is saving the world".

He said: "I do think there's an absence of social reality in the Bond films. If they fix that - which I so hope they will - where you can actually believe in him [and] he isn't just a person in a dinner jacket. He's a creature of the Cold War."

Morgan added that he was "encouraged" by director Sam Mendes's attachment to the project: "He wouldn't put his name to a load of nonsense... He wouldn't want to do a Bond film and make it a panto."

Morgan, who said that he only penned a treatment and not a full script for the Daniel Craig spy movie, admitted that he wasn't confident about seeing any of his work make it to the big screen.

"I suspect that if they start again then they'll start entirely again," he commented. "I think that there was momentum behind my idea for a moment and I suspect that moment has probably gone."

Khan 'will not be villain in Star Trek 2'

Star Trek villain Khan will not feature in the upcoming J.J. Abrams sequel, it has been claimed.

Khan, a Star Trek villain from the original TV series as well as the feature film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, was expected to be the central villain in Abrams's next film in the franchise.

However, Movie Web has allegedly received a report that the sequel will not feature the beloved villain. Instead, a different classic Star Trek character will be the focus of Abrams's next film.

"It's definitely a character that will make fans of (the original series) excited," said a source. "Think along the lines of Harry Mudd or Trelane or Gary Mitchell or the Talosians or the Horta. Actually it's one of those that I named."

Star Trek 2 is slated for a June 29, 2012 release.

Matt Damon 'wasn't told about Bourne axe'

Matt Damon has revealed that the filmmakers behind The Bourne Legacy didn't tell him that they were making the movie without him.

Legacy writer-director Tony Gilroy, who had a hand in all three previous Bourne pictures, penned the latest movie with a new spy to replace Jason Bourne.

Damon told Parade that he first learned about Bourne's omission from the franchise when he read it on the internet.

"Nobody bothered to call me," he said. "I'm not in it, but even so, they'll work Bourne into the title, I guess. Universal just wants to call everything the Bourne something. So I guess they are trying to make another franchise and as they say, 'It isn't over until it's over'."

Gilroy previously said of Bourne's absence from the fourth spy instalment: "Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he's very much alive. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens."

The Bourne Legacy is due to arrive in cinemas in 2012.

Matt Damon clarifies 'Bourne' comments

Matt Damon has said that he has no problems with the current plans for a new instalment of the Bourne franchise.

It was reported that Damon had not been consulted on the premise for The Bourne Legacy, which is to be directed by Tony Gilroy and will feature a new spy in place of Damon's character Jason Bourne.

However, Damon clarified his comments to Entertainment Weekly, saying: "I was in [a promotional interview] and they were, like, badgering me about the next Bourne movie. And I was like, 'I don’t know, guys, they didn't call me. They're doing another movie with Tony'."

Despite having previously said that he would only appear in another of the series' films if it were helmed by Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass, Damon insisted that he is behind developing the story's scope.

He continued: "I think it's a smart thing to do. It doesn’t interfere with Paul and me doing a movie.

"Tony doesn’t want to hurt the Bourne story. So as I understand it, Jason Bourne is alive in the world that Tony's going to create. I don’t appear in it, but it's very much that world."

Damon added: "Tony is a really clever guy. My guess is he has thought of a really great way to do it, to create a whole world that feels like the Bourne world, where Jason Bourne is very much alive and out there.
