Whedon: 'Avengers has big stipulations'

Joss Whedon has admitted that he is working with "enormous stipulations" on his superhero movie The Avengers.

Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, the director confessed that there are sections of his Avengers script that won't see the light of day due to strict guidelines from Marvel on the ensemble movie, which brings together Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, Chris Evans's Captain America and Chris Hemsworth's Thor.

"I'm working on a movie that's got enormous stipulations and is going to be changing and fluid every second," he said of the superhero project.

"I've come up with dozens of scenes and lines and exchanges and monologues that I adore that are not going to be in it. But while I'm writing them they feed me, excite me and they ultimately inform the character."

Whedon, the creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly, added that he is hoping to make a comic book film that will bring Marvel fans back for repeat viewings.

"I certainly will do everything in my power... to make it good," he remarked. "That's my power, that's all I've got. All I can do is make [The Avengers] good enough for somebody to see it twice."

Jessica Alba praises Lohan in 'Machete'

Jessica Alba has praised co-star Lindsay Lohan's performance in the upcoming Machete.

The actress appears alongside Lohan in the Robert Rodriguez feature-length expansion of the fake trailer that played in Grindhouse.

Speaking to MTV News at the movie's LA premiere, she said: "[Lindsay is] so good in this movie. I can't wait for everyone to see [her in] it."

Rodriguez - who has frequently spoken out in support of Lohan - added that he predicts the movie will remind the public and media of her talent.

"They'll see the actress behind all that paparazzi nonsense that follows her and won't leave her alone," he said. "They'll get to see her and say, 'Oh, that's right, that's why we follow her around.'"

Lohan hit the headlines last month when she was sentenced to 90 days in jail and a 90-day stint at rehab after violating the terms of her probation stemming from a 2007 charge. She was released from jail on August 2 and allowed to leave rehab on Tuesday.

According to Radar Online, her attorney Shawn Holley Chapman has said that she chose not to attend the screening of Machete because "she thought it was better for her to focus on moving forward and not necessarily going to something splashy".

Machete opens September 3 in the US and November 26 in the UK.
