Fraser backs out of 'Journey' sequel?

Brad Peyton is reportedly in talks to direct a Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel without Brendan Fraser attached to star.

Actor Josh Hutcherson, 17, will take the lead role in the follow-up, reports Deadline.

Hutcherson played the protagonist's nephew in the original 2008 movie.

It has been reported that Fraser is opting out of the film because original helmer Eric Brevig will not be available to direct.

Fraser could still make a deal with backers New Line and Walden Media to star, but sources have suggested that such a deal is unlikely.

The studios are eyeing a fall 2011 release date for the picture.

'Beastly' moves to avoid Efron's 'Charlie'

CBS Films has pushed back the release of Vanessa Hudgens's Beastly in order to avoid a clash with Zac Efron's Charlie St. Cloud.

The latter film, a supernatural ghost story, had recently been shifted into a July 30 slot by Universal, the same date that Efron's girlfriend Hudgens's modern-day Beauty And The Beast reworking was due to hit cinemas.

A statement on the official Facebook page for Beastly said: "We've been hearing from fans, so we know that having both Zac and Vanessa's movies opening on the same day could be a real dilemma for people, so we are moving Beastly. Heigl: 'Ashton was mad at me over stunts'

Katherine Heigl has claimed that Ashton Kutcher was unimpressed with her unwillingness to do her own stunts when they worked together.

The pair star opposite each other in new action spy movie Killers. Heigl suggested to Parade that Kutcher was unhappy with her use of stunt doubles.

She said: "He was really mad at me because I wouldn't do my own stunts. He was only partly joking when he said that I probably even think running is a stunt.

"Actually, I do, because it's dangerous. I have bad feet and I have weak ankles. If you have to do it over and over again, you can hurt yourself. Anyway, Ashton was always just rolling his eyes at me."

She added: "I'd be a terrible secret agent. I can't keep a secret and I'm not sneaky. Though I have to say I am very good at hiding. I can hide, and my husband's just terrible at finding me. I do like to jump out from behind doors and scare him."

'Whip It' with Drew

By GEORGE HADLEY-GARCIA
Special to The Japan Times
HOLLYWOOD — "The politest thing I can say is, 'It's about bleeping time!' " says Drew Barrymore with a giggle reminiscent of Gertie, the "E.T." role that made her famous back in 1982.

The actress, recently turned director, is talking about the 2010 Oscar win for best director by Kathryn Bigelow, the first time a woman has won that accolade. Barrymore's directorial debut is "Whip It," starring Ellen Page ("Juno") as a young Texan named Bliss who escapes her boring background and finds herself via the rough sport of roller derby.

Barrymore, granddaughter of stage and screen legend John Barrymore (who died of alcoholism in 1942, aged 60), points out that an actress who decides to direct can have a tougher time of it when it comes to being prepared enough and confident enough that her cast and crew have confidence in her.

But where she — no question — has it tougher, is in the perception of those in the industry.

"Like, isn't it obvious that male actors who decide to direct are applauded, even excessively? Look at all the actors who directed a movie, got nominated and then actually won the Academy Award. The list includes Robert Redford, Kevin Costner, Warren Beatty, Mel Gibson and Woody Allen.

"Not one of the women ever nominated for Best Director was an actress! It is ludicrous. If an actor directs, he is admired — he's expanding his horizons. If an actress directs, either she's getting older — as is anybody who's still breathing — or she's washed up or impossible to handle as an actress. Or else she's too ambitious and so uppity. I've heard all those things, and more, said about actresses who directed a movie.

Grint "uncomfortable" with naked scenes

Rupert Grint has revealed that he felt "uncomfortable" being naked in front of Bill Nighy.

The 21-year-old Harry Potter actor, who co-stars with Nighy in comedy movie Wild Target, said that he was not happy wearing just underwear in front of him before filming a bath scene.

Grint told Bang Showbiz: "It's quite embarrassing where I had to stand in the bath, I had a jock strap kind of thing... it was weird because it wasn't water, it was milk... to make the water look cloudy so you couldn't see anything - we were in a bath of milk.

"Thankfully there weren't many people on set just me and Bill. He didn't really say very much, but yes it did feel just a bit uncomfortable for the both of us.

"It's embarrassing, I've never been to a gym or really done any sports... but I'm not lazy as I'm always working or busy doing something."

Corden rules out 'Gavin & Stacey' film

James Corden has ruled out bringing back Gavin & Stacey as a feature film.

Speaking to DS at the National Movie Awards, Corden claimed that the BBC sitcom would lose its appeal if it transferred to the big screen.

He said: "Sex And The City is set in New York, it has an element of a film about it anyway. Our show is about two families in Essex and Barry Island. To make it into a film we'd have to take them out of that world. I think some things are better on TV. I wouldn't want to see Blackadder the film, but it's one of my favourite TV shows."

Corden also confirmed that he will be joining the cast of Paul WS Anderson's The Three Musketeers, adding that he is looking forward to appearing in a scene with Inglourious Basterds Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz: "He's an amazing actor. Just to be in a scene with him will be enough really."
