Evans 'intimidated by 'Captain America'

Chris Evans has revealed that he initially stalled for "a couple of weeks" while deciding whether to accept the role of Captain America.

The 28-year-old was confirmed last month to star as Steve Rogers and his titular alter-ego Captain America in the upcoming action movie.

"It was a couple of weeks of weighing up all the options," he told Empire. "There was certainly a period where I was shying away from the movie.

"It's intimidating. It's pretty daunting. There's certainly a life-changing role there and that was part of the process. Did I want to take this on?

"I like supporting roles, I like the way my life is now and I have the best of both worlds. This would potentially change that. But you know what? This could be a good thing."

Haley: 'Krueger is the ultimate boogey man'

Jackie Earle Haley has said that Freddy Kruger is the ultimate horror villain.

The actor takes on the role made famous by Robert Englund in the upcoming remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Haley told Parade of Krueger: "He is like one of the coolest horror characters, the ultimate boogey man in a campfire story. Back in the mid '80s, there was this bunch of scary guys in hit movies from Michael Myers to Jason Voorhees.

"But I always thought Freddy Krueger was the most interesting because it took an actor to play instead of a stunt guy. I thought Robert Englund was great in the role, and I admit I felt intimidated filling his shoes."

He added of working with the character's famous razor gloves: "They didn't just come on and off. They kinda bolted them down. So a lot of times they would just leave the real sharp metal ones on instead of the plastic ones.

"I was definitely worried about falling on them or cutting somebody. It was kinda scary. I had this scene where I kind of swipe the blades across the chest of one of the young actors and I actually sliced him a little bit. Fortunately, he thought it was funny."

Kristen Bell has revealed that she is still hoping that there will be a Veronica Mars movie.

Bell, who played the lead role in the show, explained that she is trying to convince Warner Bros. to take on the film.

"I wish I had news," she told E! Online. "Still in the process of campaigning to tell Warner Bros. that people would actually see it.

"I think that as long as you guys keep asking those questions and I keep answering them, Warner Bros. will one day get the picture that everybody does want it and that it will make its money back."

She added: "I think, truthfully, they're a company and they want to know that they'll make their return back. We just have to convince them that they will."

The show's creator Rob Thomas said earlier this month that the project is "not dead".

X-Men Exclusive: Fox Offers Matthew Vaughn X-Men First Class

In a move that may tilt the axis of fanboys worldwide, Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn is in talks to direct X-Men: First Class for Twentieth Century Fox. Why is this so bizarre? Because Vaughn is the very director who turned down directing X-Men: The Last Stand back in 2005 after he had already negotiated his deal with the studio. (Fox later hired Brett Ratner to helm the most successful of all X-Men films.) Vaughn went on to direct the disappointing Stardust for Paramount and, just two weeks ago, released the well-reviewed R-rated Kick-Ass.

Of course, considering Vaughn’s history with the X-Men franchise, he could very well turn down the First Class offer, as well (sources say the studio is also speaking with other possible directors). Should a deal come together, however, Vaughn would be helming an origin story of the X-Men crew, one that tells the story of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and the other X-Men in their younger years, played by younger actors. (No word yet on whether Hugh Jackman would reprise his role as Wolverine since his character doesn’t age as the others do.)  The script comes from Jamie Moss based on Bryan Singer’s treatment. Though the studio had wanted Singer to direct once again, the director is only signed on to produce, since he’s preoccupied with directing Jack the Giant Killer for Warner Bros.

New Batman Sequel Scheduled For July 2012

The Dark Knight sequel finally has a release date. Almost two years after the killer clown crime epic dominated the box office and spawned a million Halloween costumes, Warner Bros. has announced that the still-untitled Batman 3 will be released on July 20, 2012, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (In other news, I’m going off the grid from July 19, 2012 through August 1, 2012.)

There’s not a whole lot of information about the movie, which is still in the very early planning stages. Director Christopher Nolan and writer David Goyer have always been focused on presenting a more realistic take on the Batman mythos, so we’re probably not going to see Killer Croc, Mr. Freeze, or Clayface. Even though he’s a bit more outlandish, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Riddler, if only because his presence could pump up Batman’s mystery-solving detective side. But what do I know? None of my films have ever grossed over a billion dollars.

PopWatchers, what would you want to see in Batman 3? And what should they call the thing? I’d go with something vintage, like Shadow of the Bat, but I remember reading a rumor that it might be called Gotham City, which would be nifty.

Johansson to play Love in Cobain film?

Scarlett Johansson has expressed interest in playing Courtney Love in the forthcoming Kurt Cobain biopic.

The Iron Man 2 actress said that she would be eager to play the late Nirvana frontman's wife, after hearing that Love had suggested her for the role.

Johansson told MTV News: "I know that there is a script. That's as much as I know about it. I'm a big fan of Courtney's and I think she's very, very talented. But I don't know anything about the project.

"It would be a challenge, definitely would be a challenge. I think the idea is interesting and intriguing, but I would have to really wrap my head around it."

Love yesterday revealed that she would like to see James McAvoy or Ryan Gosling cast as her late husband in the film, which apparently has the working title All Apologies.

Crowe: 'Past Robin Hoods unrealistic'

Robin Hood actor Russell Crowe has criticised previous movie versions of the story as being impractical and unrealistic.

The star dismissed a number of adaptations as speculating too much about the Nottingham outlaw, without basing the story in history, in an interview with Canal Plus Le Grand Journal, quoted in NME.

Crowe particularly disliked Kevin Costner's 1991 Prince Of Thieves, describing the film as being "like a Jon Bon Jovi video". Gladiator director Ridley Scott, he said, will "take a fresh look" at the story.

Moving onto Errol Flynn's 1938 classic, he said: "The practicality of going through an English forest, with all its coarse bushes and bramble and all that, in green tights? Not very practical now, is it?"

He then described Mel Brooks's 1993 parody Robin Hood: Men In Tights as "the most entertaining" version, but added: "Again, it examines the same exact clichés as all the other films that wrap the legend up and throw it away. And once Mel Brooks has had a go at it, it's time to wipe the slate clean."

Speaking more generally, Crowe said that: "Past filmmakers and studios have 'supposed' things about Robin Hood."

His version, however, "depicts the origins, where he might actually have come from".

The Back-Up Plan is released in cinemas on May 7.

Ridley Scott teases 'Hood', 'Alien' plans

Ridley Scott has revealed fresh new plans for Robin Hood and Alien.

The 72-year-old director announced the potential storyline for his proposed Robin Hood sequel, which he announced last month.

He told The Daily Telegraph: "In it we'll take King John up to being forced to sign the Magna Carta by his people, who will probably be led by a guy called Robin Hood, and all the historians will go nuts!"

Meanwhile, on his planned prequel for 1979 movie Aliens, Scott explained: "I got fed up with all the sequels, so I'm going to do a prequel, which will be set before the days of Sigourney Weaver's character.

"It will take place in about 2085 when they first come across this thing. And it will ask the question, 'Who is the guy lying in a chair with his chest blown outwards?'"

Haley: 'Portraying Freddy was challenge'

Jackie Earle Haley has said that his reimagined version of the iconic horror villain Freddy Kruger is more "serious" and "angry".

The Oscar-nominated actor has admitted that it was a challenge creating his own portrayal of the character that Robert Englund made famous.

Haley told Teen Hollywood: "The real challenge was just to get in there and somehow create a Freddy that was somewhat recognisable but that I could still own. So, I really just tried to own it and make the guy my own. It's probably a bit more serious, a bit more angry."

Haley also admitted that he rewatched the 1984 Wes Craven original for inspiration and insight.

He added: "Yeah. I looked at the first one because I remember seeing that one in the theater and I really dug it and the tone of it was darker than where it had gone [in sequels].

"I think it had gotten more campy and more of a comedy, which was great. I think people loved that, but I think [the filmmakers's] call on going back to re-envision this thing as a really dark, kind of serious piece was kind of a cool idea."

A Nightmare On Elm Street is currently playing in US cinemas and is released in the UK on May 7.

Rourke had 'Iron Man' language struggles'

Mickey Rourke has revealed that it took him three weeks to learn two lines in Russian for his role in Iron Man 2.

The Wrestler star said getting to grips with the language for his part as technology expert Ivan Vanko was extremely challenging.

Rourke, who stars alongside Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow in the action hero thriller, said: "The language is very hard to wrap an English tongue around.

"I had a Russian teacher for three months, five days a week for around three hours a day. To learn two lines would take three weeks."

Rourke met his Russian model girlfriend Elena Kuletskaya while working on the film and said it didn't help that she endlessly mocked his accent.

Stiller's 'Zoolander 2' axed by Paramount

Ben Stiller has hinted that Paramount isn't going to finance a Zoolander sequel.

Writing on his Twitter page, Stiller said that the studio won't back another outing for his dimwitted male model character Derek Zoolander.

"Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels," he said, referring to the recently shelved Anchorman 2. "Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks."

Stiller confirmed earlier in the year that Tropic Thunder writer Justin Theroux would write and direct a follow-up to the 2001 comedy hit.
