De Niro 'interested in Taxi Driver 2'

Robert De Niro has admitted that he would like to make a sequel to Taxi Driver.

The Martin Scorsese-directed cult classic was nominated for four Oscars upon its release in 1976. De Niro has now revealed his ambitions to play protagonist Travis Bickle for a second time.

He told MTV: "I have talked to writer Paul Schrader and Marty. We've spoken about what would happen to Travis these years later.

"We had a thing and we tried to figure it out; Paul was trying to come up with something. And it just didn't seem to work."

While director Lars Von Trier was forced to shoot down speculation in February that he had teamed up with Scorsese to start work on the project, De Niro explained that the chance still remains for a second movie to be made.

He added: "You never know - something could come up. I thought it would be interesting to find a way to bring Travis back all these years later - maybe with something ironic about where he'd end up, as he did in the first one. All these years later, maybe we could. It's still possible."

Arterton: 'Creed role was demanding stuff'

Gemma Arterton has revealed that she attempted to reassure the crew during the filming of harrowing scenes for her new movie The Disappearance Of Alice Creed.

The British actress plays the titular victim of a brutal kidnapping in the film.

She told DS: "It was demanding stuff and there weren't many girls on set. It could have felt really awkward, but it was actually quite weird because there was so much attention on making me feel okay that it felt like I was in control.

"I was going, 'It's alright everyone, chill out, it's fine', and I was trying to make people laugh and trying to diffuse the situation. All these guys, especially J [Blakeson, writer-director], were going, 'Sorry Gemma, I wrote you this part! Actually, I'm the one responsible'."

Arterton, best known for her roles in Quantum Of Solace and St Trinian's, added: "When I was cast in this that's what I agreed to do so I just did it. You don't want to cause a fuss."

Sutherland confirms '24' movie series

Kiefer Sutherland has revealed that a 24 movie franchise will be launched now that the series has been axed.

The actor confirmed that a feature film and sequels are in the works, with the first taking Jack Bauer outside of the US.

"The film will be a two-hour representation of a 24-hour day, so all of a sudden, the restrictions of the real-time aspect are lifted. Which is huge," he told Total Film.

"To put it in context, in the series, every crisis had to come to us, because we couldn't move. Who wants to see Jack Bauer sit on a plane for four hours? But in the format of the film, it will be very feasible to go from Eastern Europe to London in the space of 24 hours, so all of a sudden there is so much more latitude. The skies have opened up!"

The final season of 24 is currently airing on Sky1 in the UK and Fox in the US.

Verhoeven quits 'Thomas Crown Affair 2'

Pierce Brosnan's upcoming The Thomas Crown Affair sequel has been thrown into doubt after director Paul Verhoeven quit the project citing script disputes.

The actor announced plans last year to reprise his role as a high-class art thief in a sequel to the 1999 thriller, which was a remake of the 1968 Steve McQueen original.

Brosnan confirmed that he had begun work on the picture in February, insisting movie bosses had "a script and a structure that is good".

However, the production has now suffered a major setback after Total Recall filmmaker Verhoeven walked out on the film - blaming his exit on a "regime change" as well as a decision to go with a different script.

He told Moviehole: "I am not [involved] anymore. Things happened there, the regime changed. The initial ideas that they had about Thomas Crown 2 were interesting I thought.

"There was a script written by two young writers that used the fact that now we're living 15, 20 years later. Ultimately, [the studio]

decided not to [use] that script anymore. Then there was a regime change. And basically I felt that I could not [continue]."

Jackson: 'Hobbit hasn't been delayed'

Peter Jackson has dismissed claims that The Hobbit movies have been delayed.

Speaking to Moviefone, Jackson said that his Lord Of The Rings prequels have yet to be greenlit by studio MGM and talks of production problems are inaccurate.

"Well, it's not really been delayed, because we've never announced the date," he said. "I mean it's sort of interesting because the studio has never greenlit The Hobbit, so therefore The Hobbit has never been officially announced as a 'go' project, nor have we ever announced a date.

"But there's so much interest that people - newspapers and magazines, of their own account, say, 'Ah, it's likely to film in May, it's likely to film in June, it's likely to film in September.' People make this stuff up. And then if it's not filming in June, you get a story saying, 'The Hobbit's been delayed.' But it's never actually been announced"

Jackson did confirm that both Hobbit scripts have been delivered to MGM and the Guillermo del Toro project is currently in the budgeting stages.

Andy Serkis, who played Golum in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, recently told DS that he expected The Hobbit to begin shooting later this year.

"Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on Bond 23 indefinitely," the two explained.
