About Coupling (UK)

Coupling (UK) Premiered on BBC Three on May 12, 2000

About the Show:
Experiences of a group of six friends, centered on Susan and Steve, Susan's ex, Steve's ex, Susan's best girlfriend, and Steve's best friend. The central topics are strongly sexual, and deal with the sexual relationships of all six of them as they interact with each other and with outside individuals. While seeming to be a rip-off of "Friends", and, in fact, that is its original conceptual genesis, in the hands of highly talented writer-creator Steven Moffat the show goes much, much further into the complexities of finding a soulmate. Enhancing Moffat's excellent scripts are the well-matched comedic talents of Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean), Gina Bellman (Leverage), Sarah Alexander, Richard Coyle, Kate Isitt, and Ben Miles.

Season 1

Episode 1: Flushed (May/12/2000)
Steve is attempting to dump his girlfriend, Jane, but Jane is quite bizarrely refusing to accept Steve's split with her. Meanwhile, Patrick is trying to dump Susan, but Susan is confused as she didn't really think they were actually going out. While attempting to break up with Jane, Steve asks Susan out and she accepts. How will their first date go?

Episode 2: Size Matters (May/19/2000)
Susan invites Steve to her house for dinner. The men argue over whether or not Susan expects to finish the night with sex, while the girls realize that that might be a mistaken expectation. In addition, Steve is concerned regarding a comment of Susan's about her ex, Patrick, who is apparently well-endowed for a male. Steve is worried he won't measure up to Susan's expectations.

Episode 3: Sex, Death & Nudity (May/26/2000)
Jane's aunt passes away, and Jane finagles Steve into attending. Susan, however, isn't happy with the fact that Jane hasn't let anyone else know that she and Steve have broken, up, and so also attends, which means she needs Patrick to come along to appear to be her "date," and also wants Sally along to provide moral support, which means Jeff needs to come to appear to be Sally's "date." A comedy of manners follows, as the need to behave with appropriate solemnity conflicts with everyone's inner feelings.

Episode 4: Inferno (Jun/02/2000)
Susan arranges a dinner party, which Jane horns in on, while bringing her psychologist, Jill along (who has dumped Jane just as Steve has, with much the same success). The gang mistake the psychologist for a lesbian friend after Jane again declares her "bisexuality". The nature of the party becomes strained when, in addition to the above confusion, Susan finds a provocatively titled porn video in Steve's VCR, called "Lesbian Spank Inferno". The women collectively agree that they don't see how anyone can find that sort of thing erotic, which culminates in an inspired interpretation of the film's premise by Steve.

Episode 5: The Girl with Two Breasts (Jun/09/2000)
A very attractive girl is spotted in the bar, and Jeff risks all to speak with her. Fortunately (or unfortunately...), the woman does not speak English, and Jeff doesn't speak or even recognize whatever language the woman does speak. Jeff takes advantage of the situation to utter some words he wouldn't otherwise intentionally use in a conversation (but which Jeff, being Jeff, usually has to guard himself carefully to avoid, often unsuccessfully), while inadvertently giving the girl the strong impression that Jeff likes her rather plain female friend, who is stuck doing some interpretation for them, but is only around part of the time..

Episode 6: The Cupboard of Patrick's Love (Jun/16/2000)
Patrick's love of filming his sexual partners is discovered when by Jane. Rather quickly this knowedge comes to the attention of the entire group. There are all sorts of concerns -- Susan that Patrick has video of her, Steve that Patrick can watch Susan have sex, Jeff that he's missing something, and so on. As everyone comes by to do something with regards to the video of Patrick and Susan (see it, destroy it, confiscate it, etc.), the situation gets more and more out of hand.

About Lucky Louie

Lucky Louie Premiered on HBO on June 11, 2006

About the Show:
Lucky Louie is HBO’s first-ever multi-camera comedy series, which takes a fresh and funny look into blue-collar domestic life. Bringing an honest and unadulterated approach to the classic half-hour sitcom, Lucky Louie focuses on the challenges of marriage and family through the story of a young couple who are just barely getting by.

Louis C.K. stars as Louie, a part-time mechanic at a muffler shop, who spends most of his time at home taking care of his four-year-old daughter Lucy while his wife Kim, the real breadwinner, works as a full-time nurse. This untraditional arrangement can be difficult at times, as Louie is never content with the role of caregiver (despite having no skills or ambition to offer his family or society), and Kim can never quite let go of controlling, supervising and criticizing Louie’s shoddy stay-at-home work. But they always stick it out in the end, because somewhere under all that muck they love each other... plus, they have no choice.

About Spaced

Spaced Premiered on Channel 4 on September 24, 1999

About the Show:
Spaced: the anti-Friends, in that it examines the lives of common 20 somethings, but in a way that is more down to earth and realistic. Here we have Daisy and Tim; two 'young' adults with big dreams just trying to get by in this crazy world. They are thrown together in a common pursuit of tenancy, which they find by posing as a couple. The house has a landlady and an oddball artist living there. The series explores the ins and outs of London living.

The show is also marked with it's 'coolness' as director Edgar Wright employs big screen direction to the small screen, and a plethora of latest music. To make this appealing to most people, there are almost non-stop pop-cultural references that will keep you laughing and engaged.
