Gemma Arterton: 'Alice Creed isn't pretty'
Gemma Arterton has revealed that some people warned her against joining The Disappearance Of Alice Creed.
Speaking to GQ, the actress explained that she was drawn to the kidnap film because of its dark themes.
"There was a bit of resistance from some people wondering if it was a good idea for me to do this film," she said. "It's quite violent, there's nudity in it, it's not a pretty film. But that's why I wanted to do it."
She added: "It was made for under a million in a shed on the Isle of Man. Filmmaking at its purest: no money, no time, but really good actors and really good script."
Arterton also admitted that she agrees to take on roles in blockbuster films like Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time because they raise her profile.
"There is this realistic, business side to me and I think that it's informed my career a lot," she said. "You need to be known as an actress to get the really good parts, so you need to make sure you're in something that people see. Then hopefully you get the chance to have the creativity later."
