Millar hits out at 'Superman' reports

Writer Mark Millar has hit out at reports that he was never in the frame to pen the next Superman film.

It was recently confirmed that Dark Knight scribe David S. Goyer is in line to script the movie for Warner Bros. Millar previously went on record to say that he and Kick-Ass helmer Matthew Vaughn were in originally talks for the project.

Writing on his blog, the scribe slammed allegations that such discussions never took place. "I must stress that the 'inside info' on my relationship to the movie is nonsense," he said. "I can say on the record that Vaughn had meetings with [Warner Bros.] about our ideas over a year ago.

"I can't stand these massive declarations coming from 'unknown sources. I've said on the record that WB had direct and serious talks with Vaughn and Vaughn was only doing it if we did it together. This didn't work out and we're doing something else, but the notion that it's fiction is insane."

Despite taking offence at the speculation surrounding his pitch, Millar backed the studio's decision to hire Goyer. "Awesome for Goyer," he added. "He's a brilliant writer and a mate of mine so [I] feel this could not be in better hands."

The movie is being developed under the working title The Man Of Steel.

Kevin Smith 'hits back at Cop Out critics'

Kevin Smith has hit back at critics of his latest movie Cop Out.

The director took to his Twitter page to address recent poor reviews of his new comedy, starring Bruce Willis and Adam Brody.

He wrote: "Here's the thing...*inhales* I've made movies that have been panned before, by critics who are still working, and some who I've outlasted.

"I came from a world where critics could make or break you (Janet Maslin's CLERKS review in the NY Times made me)."

Smith added: "That world's long dead. A movie like COP OUT, while an easy target for critics, is clearly not intended to impress those prone to show off their cinema erudition.

"Critics can stab at COP OUT with their poison pens all they want, but it still doesn't change the fact that it's a funny flick."

Farrell: 'Alexander was a glorious failure'

Colin Farrell has admitted that he was initially shocked that his 2004 movie Alexander was a commercial failure.

The 33-year-old played the lead in Oliver Stone's Greek epic, which also starred Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer.

As well as being universally derided by critics upon release, the film only managed to claw back one quarter of its $155m (£101m) outlay at the US box office.

Farrell told Total Film: "We were splitting the atom on Alexander - we were really doing something that had never been done and we were telling an epic tale that would harp back to the days of Cecil B. DeMille and we were going to get 12 Oscar nominations. In our heads. That's one case of where we completely misjudged the situation.

"It was a very big story and I know that Oliver was very rushed to do a cut, but for me it just failed gloriously. It just kept in step with the magnitude of Alexander's ambition and ego."

Colin Farrell sick over replacing Ledger

Colin Farrell has admitted that his "stomach turned" at the thought of replacing Heath Ledger in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

The actor told Total Film that it wasn't until he talked with Ledger's friends that he decided to take on the role.

"When Jude [Law] , Johnny [Depp] and I were asked if we could fill in my stomach turned at the thought of it, and then I spoke to a couple of people who were close to Heath Ledger and they thought he'd be cool with it," Farrell explained.

"I went to Vancouver for nine days and there was an amazing sense of companionship and love and respect for Heath as an actor and a man."

The Irish star also revealed that he didn't know the late actor all that well.

"I knew him a little bit. I hadn't seen him in a few years then saw him a few months before he passed. He was one of the good ones - a gorgeous dude, really kind and humble and smart and creative."
