Johnny Depp: 'My career has defied logic'

Johnny Depp has admitted that he thinks his continued success in Hollywood "defies logic".

The actor has become one of the industry's biggest draws since he rose to fame in 1990 with his starring role in Edward Scissorhands.

Although the 46-year-old is still busy in film nearly two decades later, he told People that he finds it astonishing that he has managed to get so far.

He revealed: "The whole ride - my whole ride and experience on the ride - since day one has been pretty surreal in this business. It defies logic, why I'm still here. I'm still completely shocked that I still get jobs and still am around... I've been very lucky.

"I had no idea where anything was going, but you can't. It's almost impossible to predict anything like that. I had no idea. I had hoped... But I'm luckily still here."

William Hurt: 'I spent a night in prison'

William Hurt has revealed that he spent a night in a high-security prison to prepare for his role in The Yellow Handkerchief.

The actor stars as an ex-convict in the Udayan Prasad-directed movie, which also features Kristen Stewart, Maria Bello and Eddie Redmayne.

Hurt told Parade: "I did spend a night in a maximum security prison in Angola, Louisiana, with a convict who was serving a life sentence.

"I also went back for ten days to talk to inmates. And I wanted to get rid of my New York actor body, so I went to a trainer who helped me beef up."

He added: "There's a difference between telling a story and living a story. I want you to feel that my character's living through a situation that you would believe.

"But you have to be careful. You can't really capture life without killing it. You can't open up a frog and see how his heart pumps without killing the frog. I don't want to kill the frog.

"I want to be part of expressing how wonderful and vital that privilege of life is. I ask myself on every page of a script and every word I say in a scene, 'Is this true or is this just a made up character?'"

George Lopez to voice 'Speedy Gonzales'

George Lopez will voice the title character in New Line's Speedy Gonzales movie.

The actor and chatshow host is also producing the live-action/CGI feature along with Anne Lopez and Lynette Ramirez from his George Lopez Presents company, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Looney Tunes character Speedy debuted in the 1950s and regularly faced off against Sylvester the Cat. Known as the fastest mouse in Mexico, he also uses the catchphrase "¡Andale! ¡Andale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba!".

The cartoon has come in for criticism for its negative portrayal of Latin Americans, including Speedy's lazy cousin Slowpoke Rodriguez.

Anne Lopez explained that the update will steer away from ethnic stereotypes, saying: "We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s - the racist Speedy. Speedy's going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he's a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he's good at."

Johnny Depp wants to simplify 'Pirates 4'

Johnny Depp is reportedly working with the producers of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise on the story for the fourth movie in the series.

According to The Mirror, the actor hopes to offer a simpler plot for his next outing as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Depp said of the third instalment: "Sometimes people didn't know what was going on and most of the time I didn't either.

"I'd like to give them a Pirates 4 that is very funny and entertaining and not convoluted or riddled with sub-plots and characters."

He added: "Captain Jack did a big flip for my career. When I decided to take the role it was pure instinct. I didn't know it was going to be such a huge hit.

"I like the idea of experimenting with all different sorts of genre. Being comfortable with what you're doing is not good because you get lazy."

Jon Hamm responds to superhero rumours

Mad Men star Jon Hamm has responded to speculation that he is to portray a superhero on screen.

Rumours that the actor is to appear in a future comic book adaptation have been fuelled by various fan campaigns, as well as comments from filmmaker Kevin Smith, who suggested that Hamm would make an ideal Batman or Superman.

"Well, it's interesting. I'm a huge comic book fan, first of all," Hamm told MTV. "I've collected them, I've read them since I was a kid. I am a big fan of the classic comics and also the darker ones that have sort of predominated in the last 10 to 15 years."

When asked whether he would consider starring in a comic book adaptation, he responded: "I don't know. It's a tricky road to go down with some of those heroes, because they're not flawed. Superman is Superman - he's invincible, so where's the drama?

"I think what people are finding with the success of things like Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, it's much more interesting to talk about the person behind these heroic personae rather than the flying, shooting fire and lasers and all this other stuff."

He added: "Although it has been interesting to see the evolution of the comic book film, because technology has essentially caught up with the ability to tell those stories."
