Kirsten Dunst "sad" about 'Spider-Man' end

Kirsten Dunst has admitted that she is "sad" about the Spider-Man series getting rebooted.

The actress, who starred as Mary-Jane Watson in the three superhero movies, has left the franchise along with Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi following Sony's decision to start again from scratch with (500) Days Of Summer's Marc Webb.

"It's sad to see it end," Dunst told E! Online. "I think for Sam it was time for him to move on, and so we're all going to move on with him. But we've had a good ten years."

Dunst's co-star James Franco suggested that the franchise can sustain itself in its new incarnation, but admitted that he was skeptical due to the short space of time between the new version and the old.

"It worked out well for Batman, and comics themselves have different artists and writers. I think it's perfectly fine," he commented. "I think for the viewers you want a little space [between films], so you can get everyone else out of your head."

Maguire lost 20lbs for 'Brothers' role

Brothers director Jim Sheridan has revealed that Tobey Maguire lost 20lbs in two weeks for his role as a traumatised soldier.

Speaking to DS, Sheridan said that the Spider-Man star visited a Marine Corps base in Virginia and went on a crash diet to prepare himself for the drama.

"We went to Camp Pendleton and a few army bases and we spoke to a few marines," Sheridan commented. "Over Christmas he went on a diet and exercised every day. We had a two-week break and he lost 20lbs."

Sheridan added that his working relationship with Maguire's co-star Jake Gyllenhaal was initially difficult.

"I think we both realised we'd always be fighting to be the centre of attention - two mammie's boys it's called on the set!" he explained. "But he's a sweetheart and after I'd got used to him I adored him. He's easy to work with."

Studio 20th Century Fox is reportedly planning a third Night at the Museum film.

Comedian and writer Thomas Lennon, who co-wrote the first two Museum films, hinted to Access Hollywood that a script for a third entry is being written.

"How could you not? I think it's a really outstanding idea to do Night at the Museum 3," he said.

Lennon added: "I wonder if someone's not even already working on a script for that. I cannot confirm that for a fact, but I cannot deny it for a fact either... It might be in the works."

Zimmer uncertain about 'Batman 3'

Composer Hans Zimmer has admitted he is unsure about plans for a third Batman film under director Christopher Nolan.

Zimmer, who composed the music for both Batman Begins and its sequel, The Dark Knight, was quizzed about another installment after working with Nolan on Inception.

He told IGN: "I don't know if there's a Batman 3 or not. I really don't.

"When Chris tells me a paragraph of a story - at that moment the synapses will start firing. It's as simple as that."

It is not known whether Nolan will return to direct a third Batman film. Screenwriter David Goyer last year said he had been discussing possible stories with the director but other reports suggested Nolan planned on leaving the franchise.

Fraser: 'Lucky with movie career'

Brendan Fraser has said that he considers himself "lucky" to have a successful acting career.

The 41-year-old actor, who has starred in blockbuster movies such as The Mummy and George of the Jungle, has revealed that he hopes to continue to do roles that he finds "interesting", like his 1998 film Gods And Monsters.

Fraser told Now Toronto: "At this point, I'm just looking to do something that's honestly interesting. For obvious reasons, it should be relevant in the marketplace to please the studios - everybody knows you do one for love, one for money.

"I've just been really, really, really lucky - and underline that twice and put it in bold italics, please - to have had opportunities come my way."

Fraser, who co-stars alongside Harrison Ford in his latest film Extraordinary Measures, has said that he was "moved" and "astonished" by his character's story.

He added: "I was moved by John's story and astonished that an individual could accomplish this. He had the security of a job at Bristol-Myers, he had health insurance, and he went out and did something.

"He galvanized a team of researchers and scientists. And look, here we are now releasing a movie about the story of his life."

Extraordinary Measures is currently playing in the US and arrives in the UK on February 26.

Tarantino 'offers Mirren medieval role'

Dame Helen Mirren has reportedly been approached by Quentin Tarantino to appear in his next film project.

The Academy Award-winner has been asked to play a foul-mouthed monarch in the Inglourious Basterds director's upcoming medieval movie. The film is expected to contain "bloody violence" and will be set in England's Middle Ages.

A source told The Sun: "It will feature his trademarks - bloody violence and foul language. Helen has never worked with Tarantino and is interested. If the film goes into production it's likely she will play a part."

The 64-year-old actress, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, has admitted that she would be interested in wearing a crown again for another part because portraying the monarch was one of her most satisfying roles.

Mirren added: "The Queen was such an individual, idiosyncratic film. It was one of a kind. You can't repeat that. People have asked, 'Is there going to be a sequel?' Yes, let's do the golden jubilee. That would be interesting."

Jackson surprised by 'Thor' announcement

Samuel L. Jackson has said that he was surprised to see his name on the official cast list for Marvel's Thor.

Speaking to MTV, the actor claimed that he did not know he had been cast in the upcoming superhero film until he read about it in the Hollywood trades.

Jackson is expected to reprise the role of Nick Fury, the character he played in Iron Man.

He added: "You can't worry about stuff like critics or the box office. You've just got to do your best and move on. Every time you put yourself out there, you wonder if you can do it. There's no secret recipe."

Ritchie leaves 'Lobo' to make 'Holmes 2'

Guy Ritchie has dropped out of directing DC Comics adaptation Lobo to concentrate on making a sequel to Sherlock Holmes.

Producer Joel Silver told the Los Angeles Times that Warner Bros has shifted attention away from the comic book movie in order to move forward with the Holmes follow-up.

"I don't think he's going to do [Lobo] now," Silver said. "The studio wants us and Guy to focus on making another Sherlock Holmes. So I think we're going to be doing that. But we're seeing what happens with this."

Silver added that stars Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law are keen to reprise their roles as the Baker Street sleuth and his sidekick Watson, but Brad Pitt is not confirmed as the pair's nemesis Professor Moriarty.

"Well, I mean, we talked about [casting Pitt] at one point, but you know as of right now we're not sure what we're going to do. We'll see what happens," he explained.

Brosnan 'has never seen Craig's 007'

Pierce Brosnan has revealed that he is yet to see either of Daniel Craig's James Bond films.

The former 007 star admitted during an interview this week that he feels fate is obstructing him from watching his successor, Contactmusic reports.

"I haven't seen Daniel in the role," he said. "I tried watching [Casino Royale] on an airplane, I thought 37,000 feet was a good distance to watch it from and it broke down right at the beginning. The attendant came and changed it and it broke down a second time, so I figured 'OK. The Gods must be saying something.'

"So I never went near it!" Brosnan explained. "I just thought, 'let sleeping dogs lie'. I got the Academy screener for the last one [Quantum of Solace] and I turned it on for my boys and I left them to it. I didn’t go near it."
