Brad Pitt linked to 'Holmes' sequel

Brad Pitt is reportedly set to join the sequel to Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes.

Stars Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law have already confirmed that they will appear in the follow-up to the film, with Pitt said to have signed on to play Holmes's greatest nemesis Professor Moriarty, according to Popeater.

"The director, Guy Ritchie, loves Brad," an industry source said.

The source added: "He has worked with him before and thinks he is one of the most underrated actors working today. Guy knows that everyone thinks of Pitt as a pretty boy and can't wait to turn him into the world's greatest supervillain. It will definitely make the sequel a must-see."

Pitt appeared in Ritchie’s 2000 film Snatch as Mickey the Irish traveller.

Claims that Pitt held talks with Warner Bros about playing Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes sequel previously surfaced in September.

Blunt: 'I need a break from corsets'

Emily Blunt has admitted that she is keen to take a break from period roles because she is tired of wearing uncomfortable clothing.

The 26-year-old actress wore corsets for her lead part in The Young Victoria and is also seen donning traditional outfits in the forthcoming Gulliver's Travels movie.

Blunt is quoted by the Daily Express as saying: "I did three films in a row wearing a corset. I think my inner organs by the end of it were like, 'Are you kidding? You've got to stop. You've got to give us a break'."

She added: "It's sweat pants from here on out."

Blunt recently described Gulliver's Travels as "witty and smart".

Megan Fox voted worst actress of 2009

Movie fans have named Megan Fox as the worst actress of the year.

Fox topped the list of worst actresses on film website Moviefone's year-end poll for her role in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, pipping Beyoncé's performance in Obsessed and Hilary Swank in Amelia to the title.

However, the 23-year-old was also crowned sexiest actress, beating off competition from the likes of Star Trek's Zoe Saldana and Sandra Bullock.

The Transformers sequel proved divisive for voters, who named it both the worst movie of the year and the best action movie.

Elsewhere, Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson bagged the title of sexiest male star, with co-star Taylor Lautner winning male breakout star of the year. The Twilight Saga: New Moon was named best film ahead of Avatar and The Hangover.

Tim Roth wants to reprise 'Hulk' role

Tim Roth has revealed that he is willing to return for a sequel to 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.

Speaking to MTV, the 48-year-old said that he has spoken to Marvel about possibly reprising the role of villain Emil Blonsky.

“I don’t know if they want to bring [Blonsky] back, but I told them I’m absolutely game for it. It would be so much fun to do it again. I’m in it for three,” Roth said, referring to his three-picture deal with Marvel.

He added: "I had the best time ever with that one - more fun on set than anybody. I did it purely for my kids, so my boys can laugh at their dad and have fun with it."

An Incredible Hulk sequel has not yet been announced.

Megan Fox 'hates watching Seyfried kiss'

Megan Fox has revealed that she cannot stand watching her screen kiss with Amanda Seyfried.

The 23-year-old actress, who stars with Seyfried in movie Jennifer's Body, said that she is not comfortable watching the kissing scene because it reminds her of how "awkward" it was to film.

"I feel it's so awkward and quiet, there is no score underneath it and it's just... Could you watch yourself doing it? It's awkward and it was really awkward to film it," Virgin Media quotes her as saying.

"I would say it's easier kissing someone who you know doesn't want to kiss you, that's more comfortable than going into a scene with somebody that you think is anticipating it or is going to enjoy it. But I knew clearly Amanda was not excited about it."

Seyfried has previously said that she felt "uncomfortable" kissing Fox.

Ritchie did 'Holmes' for gangster escape

Guy Ritchie has revealed that he made Sherlock Holmes to shift away from his trademark gangster films.

The director, who is best known for his crime movies Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, has admitted that he had been looking for the perfect challenge to prove his versatility as a filmmaker, according to STV.

The 41-year-old said: "I just felt that I wanted to move away from what it was that I'd been associated with and what I'd had enough of doing, to a degree. Then Sherlock Holmes landed on my desk and I felt as though I could help to reboot an otherwise rather dusty, iconic literary hero."

Ritchie also insisted that he ignores criticism for not casting a British actor in place of Robert Downey Jr for the lead role.

He added: "People have asked me, 'Why didn't you cast a Brit?' The whole point is that you employ actors to act and Robert Downey Jr is dramatically talented. And, also, his English accent is better than mine."

Sherlock Holmes is currently playing in US and UK cinemas.

DC: 'Taylor Swift not Supergirl'

A DC spokesman has denied the rumour that singer Taylor Swift is being considered for the lead role in a planned film adaptation of Supergirl.

Speculation started last month after several sources printed remarks from a "Hollywood insider" linking the 20-year-old star to the part, but DC appears to have rubbished the claims.

RTTNews quoted the DC spokesman as saying: "I'd love to know who the 'Hollywood insider' is, because that's as clueless a thing as I've heard all year."

The industry insider originally told Hollywoodscoop.com: "Hollywood is short of female heroes and the time is right for a new Supergirl.

"A number of young stars are being mentioned for the title role in a Supergirl movie and possible TV spin-off and Taylor is top of that list. She has all the right elements to be a positive role model to young girls."

Swift is due to make her film debut in romantic comedy Valentine's Day, which arrives in cinemas on February 12.

Applegate: 'I struggled not to swear'

Christina Applegate has revealed that she finds it difficult not to swear when improvising.

The 38-year-old actress, who battled breast cancer last year, said that she struggled to keep her language clean while voicing a character in the new animated Alvin And The Chipmunks movie.

Applegate told Parade: "We're strictly PG all the way. When I improvise, foul things often come out of my mouth that aren't on the page. So I really stuck to the script or there would have been some inappropriate words from my chipmunk."

She added: "It was good to do something that was very wholesome. I don't have any children, but I'm happy that I didn't have to say anything disgusting... that would shock kids."

Producer: 'Bond 23 is up in the air'

James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson has revealed that production on the new 007 movie is "up in the air" while studio MGM is up for sale.

The 23rd film outing for the British spy is expected to begin shooting at the end of this year, however Wilson suggested that he and fellow producer Barbara Broccoli will have to wait until MGM's sale before they move forward with Daniel Craig's third Bond movie.

"Our timeline's a little up in the air what with the situation at MGM, so we have to be flexible," website MI6 quotes Wilson as saying. "We just don't know enough about the situation to comment, but we know it's uncertain."

He added of the movie's current status: "We've hired the writers and we've been working with them but it's just too early to say anything. You know, often at this stage, I find myself saying, 'Oh, we're gonna do this and that', then six months from now you'll say, 'That isn't in the film at all - you told me it was...'

"I think we're at the stage where a lot of ideas are floating around that sound very good, but whether they make the final cut, who knows?"

'Sherlock Holmes 2' plans in jeopardy?

Guy Ritchie's plans for a Sherlock Holmes sequel have reportedly been thrown into doubt after Robert Downey Jr claimed that the lead character could be portrayed as gay.

Andrea Plunket, who owns the US copyright to author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's literary creations, is believed to be unhappy with comments made by Downey that Holmes and his accomplice Dr Watson have a homoerotic relationship.

Plunkett went on to say that if director Ritchie wants to pursue ambitions to turn the movie into a franchise, he will not be authorised to follow such a storyline.

She said: "I hope this is just an example of Mr Downey's black sense of humour. It would be drastic, but I would withdraw permission for more films to be made if they feel that is a theme they wish to bring out in the future. I am not hostile to homosexuals, but I am to anyone who is not true to the spirit of the books."

Plunket explained that she felt forced to speak out after Downey Jr jested in a recent interview with US talkshow host David Letterman that the famous London detective could be considered a "butch homosexual".

'Red' to film in Toronto this winter

Red has booked a winter shoot in Toronto.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comic book adaptation starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman has been penciled in for a January 11 to March 8 shooting schedule at Showline Studios.

The movie is based on the DC/WildStorm comic written by Warren Ellis, about a former black-ops CIA agent called out of a quiet retirement to pursue a hi-tech assassin out to kill him.

It will mark director Robert Schwentke's return to the Canadian city after helming The Time Traveler's Wife in 2007.

Sandra Bullock makes US box office history

Sandra Bullock has become the first A-list actress to lead a film past $200 million at the US box office.

Bullock's latest film, sports drama The Blind Side, has pulled in $208.5 million since its release seven weeks ago. Her recent romantic comedy The Proposal was also a box office favourite, taking in $163 million in North America last summer.

Julia Roberts's Erin Brockovich and Meryl Streep's The Devil Wears Prada trail behind The Blind Side with US grosses of $125.6 million and $124.7 million respectively.

"And we're not even done. I think Blind Side has another $30 million left," Warner Bros's Dan Fellman told Variety.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which scored $241 million in US ticket sales in 2002, is the only other female-driven movie to break the $200 million mark.

Natalie Portman: 'I hate Holocaust films'

Natalie Portman has revealed that she hates movies that depict the Holocaust.

Portman, who is Jewish and portrays a Chassidic wife in her upcoming film New York, I Love You, told Elle that she tries to "stay away from playing Jews".

"I get like 20 Holocaust scripts a month but I hate the genre," the actress explained.

New York, I Love You sparked controversy during production after Abe Karpen, a Chassidic actor from Brooklyn who was to play Portman's husband, dropped out of the project after facing pressure from members of New York's Hasidic community.

Portman can next be seen in drama Brothers, opening in the UK on January 22.

Smith, Washington team for 'Saturday Night'

Denzel Washington and Will Smith will work together for the first time on a remake of Uptown Saturday Night, according to Pajiba.

Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier starred in the original 1974 film, which centres on two friends who lose a winning lottery ticket on a night out and set out to recover it. Poitier also directed the comedy, which featured Harry Belafonte and Richard Pryor in supporting roles.

Smith picked up the remake rights to Saturday Night in 2002 and had allegedly considered teaming up with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence on the picture.

Backers Warner Bros and Smith's Overbrook Entertainment firm are currently searching for a writer to update the script for the remake.

Sam Mendes in talks for 'Bond 23'

Revolutionary Road director Sam Mendes is in talks to direct the new James Bond movie, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The British filmmaker is the top choice of producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to helm the 23rd instalment in the spy series, which will be Daniel Craig's third outing as the secret agent.

Recent reports have suggested that the movie will be sidelined until the sale of financially-stricken studio MGM, however production is reportedly being put on the frontburner with shooting possibly beginning in June this year.

Robert Wade, Neal Purvis and Oscar nominee Peter Morgan have penned the script for the film. MGM is targeting the untitled 007 picture for release in 2011.

Mendes, who is married to Kate Winslet, has also directed American Beauty, Road To Perdition, Jarhead and Away We Go.

Sean Penn returns to 'Three Stooges'

Sean Penn is reportedly once again in talks to co-star in the Farrelly Brothers' Three Stooges movie.

Penn dropped out of the project last summer to focus on his family and marriage to Robin Wright-Penn. The couple have since divorced and the actor is now ready to commit to the role of Stooge Larry, according to Bobby Farrelly.

Speaking to The Boston Herald, Farrelly said: "We got him back. He always said he wanted to do it after, you know, taking care of his family."

The film was put on hold in 2009 after Penn left. Bobby and brother Peter had since moved on to another project, the Owen Wilson comedy Hall Pass.

No shooting date was announced for the Stooges movie.

'Spider-Man 4' production stalled?

Production on Spider-Man 4 has reportedly stalled due to a dispute over the film's script.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the sequel could miss its May 5, 2011 release date because of a difference of opinion between director Sam Raimi and Sony Pictures about the story, which has gone through several drafts.

Significant work is still being done on the most recent copy.

Raimi is also said to be insisting that John Malkovich play the film's villain, but Anne Hathaway's reported involvement in the project is now in question.

"I'm not so sure we're going in that direction," an insider said about Hathaway.

Sony has not officially announced the schedule push.

Stallone 'breaks neck filming Expendables'

Sylvester Stallone has claimed that he broke his neck filming a fight scene for his upcoming action movie The Expendables.

The actor-director told FHM that he had to undergo surgery following the on-screen altercation with wrestler 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.

Stallone said: "Man, it was seven guys, kicking each other's ass, one guy tougher than the next. No joke, our stunt guys were begging for mercy.

"Actually, my fight with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin was so vicious that I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my neck.

"I'm not joking. I haven't told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation afterwards. I now have a metal plate in my neck."

He added: "Dolph Lundgren and I always went for it. I gave him orders to try to knock me out while the cameras were rolling.

"At one point, he hit me so hard on the top of the head I felt my spine compress. He then hit me with an almighty uppercut."

The movie also features Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham.

'The Hobbit' to begin filming in June?

Guillermo del Toro's Lord Of The Rings prequel The Hobbit will reportedly begin production in June.

The fantasy film, which is being produced by Rings trilogy director Peter Jackson, is to shoot for 14 months in New Zealand, according to Production Weekly.

However, the two-part adaptation of JRR Tolkien's novel will only receive the green light once studio MGM has resolved its financial problems. The first Hobbit film is expected to arrive in December 2011, with the follow-up debuting in December 2012.

Sir Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett are likely to reprise their roles from the original trilogy in The Hobbit.

'Zombieland' duo to script 'Deadpool'

Zombieland pair Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have signed up to write the script for Ryan Reynolds's Deadpool movie.

The duo will retain the tone of the original Marvel comic books, which follow the exploits of a wisecracking mercenary. Reynolds portrayed the character in last year's X-Men spinoff Wolverine.

According to Variety, studio 20th Century Fox has no starting date for the superhero blockbuster and will wait until Reynolds completes work on Green Lantern before moving forward.

Reese and Wernick previously worked on a script for Sony's Spider-Man offshoot Venom and will pen the Zombieland sequel.
