Favreau 'won't direct Avengers movie'

Iron Man director Jon Favreau has said that he will not be directing Marvel Comics ensemble movie The Avengers.

Speaking to MTV, the actor and director suggested that he will be too busy to helm the superhero epic, which will unite comic characters Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Nick Fury.

"They'll have to [find a different director], because I'm not going to be available," he said. "It's something I'm being the executive producer on, so I'll definitely have input and a say.

"It's going to be hard, because I was so involved in creating the world of Iron Man and Iron Man is very much a tech-based hero, and then with Avengers you're going to be introducing some supernatural aspects because of Thor.

"How you mix the two of those works very well in the comic books, but it's going to take a lot of thoughtfulness to make that all work and not blow the reality that we've created."

Favreau's Iron Man 2 will open in May 2010, while The Avengers is being targeted for a 2012 release.

Clooney started 'Goats' rubber band fight

The Men Who Stare At Goats director Grant Heslov has revealed that his cast started a rubber band fight on set.

Speaking to journalists at the movie's London Film Festival press conference, the helmer said that George Clooney, Kevin Spacey and the rest of the cast enjoyed fooling around when his back was turned.

"One day I walked off the set to go do something, I came back and George, Kevin, Ewan [McGregor] and Jeff [Bridges] were having the largest rubber band fight that I'd ever seen in my life. It was absolutely insane," he stated.

Heslov, who is Clooney's producing partner at their Smokehouse firm, added that he wasn't worried about the rubber band battle because he believes a movie set should have a fun atmosphere.

"We're so lucky to be able to do what we get to do so it should be fun, it shouldn't be a drag," he remarked.

The Men Who Stare At Goats, based on the true account of a group of US psychic spies, opens in the UK on November 6.

Murray: 'Fox could only have been made in UK'

Bill Murray has praised the British talent that helped make his new animated movie Fantastic Mr Fox.

Speaking at the London Film Festival press conference for the picture, Murray revealed his personal and professional admiration for the team of technicians and designers that put together the Wes Anderson project at London's Three Mills Studios.

"This film couldn't have been made anywhere in the world but in London, I don't think," said Murray, who voices the character of Badger. "One of the most exciting days I've ever had in the film business was the day that I spent with the artisans and artists at Three Mills. There was more talent in one little factory than I've ever been closeted with.

"I've never been with so many talented people in one place. They do things here with sets, design, building and models that America doesn't dream about. We can put a man on the moon but we could not make this movie. It's a celebration of all the people that worked on this film. They're fun after work, too!"

Fantastic Mr Fox, featuring the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Murray and Jason Schwartzman, opened last night at the BFI London Film Festival and debuts in UK cinemas on October 23.

Murray: 'No script for Ghostbusters 3'

Bill Murray has revealed that he has still not seen a script for Ghostbusters 3.

Co-star Harold Ramis had previously said that the 59-year-old would reprise his role as Dr Peter Venkman for the third instalment, which is being written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.

However, Murray told AbsoluteRadio that he does not want to commit to the film until he reads the screenplay.

He said: "Well, I don't know. I'll believe it when I see it. I saw a guy talking about the end of the world a couple of years ago, and I haven't seen that either.

"So I'm not going to be believe the Ghostbusters story until I see the script."

He added: "Well, I don't want to do it yet. There's still no script, it's just a bunch of talk. It's just a wish list for someone. Until there is a really good script, I'll stay home. It has to be a serious script before I leave the house.

"I'm not going to make one [movie] just to make another one. We made a second one, and it was okay, but it wasn't as good as the first one."

Sigourney Weaver, Murray's co-star in the first two films, confirmed in June that she will not return to the franchise.

Murray can currently be heard as the voice of Badger in Fantastic Mr Fox, which opens in UK cinemas on October 23 and in the US on November 25.

Michael Sheen has admitted that he would like to play John Lennon in a film about The Beatles.

The actor - who has portrayed a number of British icons on the big screen, including Tony Blair, David Frost and Brian Clough - said that although it is his desire to depict the late music icon, he is convinced that he would instead be cast as Lennon's bandmate Sir Paul McCartney.

He explained to Now: "I'd want to play Lennon, but I probably would be cast as McCartney!"

Sheen also revealed that he was too starstruck to strike up a proper conversation with McCartney when they met on a plane recently.

He added: "I met Paul McCartney on a flight not long ago. I was sitting there going, 'I can't go over there'. And then he came over to me. He said, 'You're famous, aren't you? I've seen you on the TV'. And I thought, 'Yeah, I've seen you on the TV a few times as well!'"

Ackles 'denies Captain America rumour'

Jensen Ackles has dismissed reports that he will be cast in the title role for forthcoming movie Captain America.

The Supernatural star was asked about the rumours at exhibition Supernatural-Con in Vancouver, Canada.

Fillion 'wants Greatest American Hero role'

Nathan Fillion has admitted that he would like to star in a film remake of The Greatest American Hero.

The actor was previously rumoured to be up for the superhero role of Green Lantern, which ended up going to Ryan Reynolds.

The star of ABC series Castle revealed that he wants to headline an update of one of the network's previous shows.

He told IFC: "There are so many superheroes out there, I feel like there's none left. But there is one I think I could handle, and that's a redo of The Greatest American Hero."

He added: "I'd say it's largely the same idea, the same story. But the suit would be able to change and morph into whatever it is you needed him to do. So it could become armour, a scuba suit - you could do that stuff."

The Greatest American Hero, which ran from 1981 to 1983, starred William Katt as a high school teacher that receives a red suit from aliens that gave him super powers. However, his heroic attempts were hindered because he was not given the instruction manual for how to utilise the costume.

The programme's creator Stephen J. Cannell reportedly announced last year that a feature film was in development with director Stephen Herek.

"The current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency valuation and overall costs. We have also had to reassess film projects in other countries as well. George Clooney praises goat co-star

George Clooney has called his animal co-star in The Men Who Stare At Goats "a great actor".

Clooney, who portrays a psychic spy with the ability to kill goats using telepathic powers in Grant Heslov's comedy, said at the movie's London Film Festival press conference that the goat he acted with was a more reliable castmate than Ewan McGregor.

"I was a fox and now I'm working with goats," said Clooney, referring to Fantastic Mr Fox, in which he voices the lead character. "This goat was a particularly nice goat, we spent a lot of time together. He wanted to go over dying around me so we worked on that for a while.

"The funny thing is the goat was a great actor. He walked in and you went, 'Stare at the camera', and he did it. If you could get Ewan to do that it would help!"

Thurman: 'I struggled to find myself'

Uma Thurman has said that she struggled to "find herself" after having her children.

The Motherhood star, who plays an internet blogger and mother-of-two in her new film, has said that she related to the role because she understood the difficulty of finding yourself after becoming a parent.

Thurman told OK! magazine: "Well, her circumstances are different, but her concerns are the same as mine. Trying to be true to yourself as an individual and as a woman and be a loving mother and grow and find yourself - that's the kind of thing we all deal with. I thought that was really universal."

The 39-year-old actress, who has two children from a previous marriage with actor Ethan Hawke, has insisted that motherhood has allowed her to grow as a person.

She added: "The most rewarding thing about motherhood is the incredible opportunity to love and expand your heart, and to learn, and to discover yourself in many different ways."

Motherhood is on limited release in US cinemas on October 23. As of yet, no UK release date has been announced.
