Margo Martindale Joins CBS' Susannah Grant Drama Pilot, More Pilot Castings

In a recasting, Margo Martindale has been tapped for a co-starring role in CBS' untitled Susannah Grant supernatural medical drama pilot. Jonathan Demme is directing the pilot, which centers on Michael (Patrick Wilson), an ultra-competitive surgeon whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle), a doctor running a free clinic, dies and begins teaching him what life is all about from the hereafter. Gersh-repped Martindale will play Michael's sassy and strong-willed assistant Rita. Martindale replaces Law & Order veteran S. Epatha Merkerson who was originally cast in the role. The recasting was made shortly after Merkerson began filming the pilot. Tony-nominated Martindale has been recurring on FX's Justified.

Veteran Hector Elizondo has joined ABC's untitled Tim Allen comedy pilot. The multicamera project, from writer Jack Burditt, centers on Tim Fitzgerald (Allen) who, even though the world around him has declared the traditional male an “endangered species," is fighting for his manhood in a world that is being increasingly dominated by women. Elizondo, repped by Gersh and manager Marc Teitelbaum, will play his boss at the Euclid Demolition Company who steps down from his post and makes Tim the president of the company.

Stella Maeve has landed the last lead in the NBC comedy pilot Lovelives. The multi-camera comedy revolves around married couple Tim (Ryan Hansen) and Holly (Amanda Loncar) who, along with Tim's siblings Blake (Sean Maguire) and Maddie (Maeve), and Blake's sarcastic ex-wife Kate (Smith Cho), navigate the twists and turns of love in New York City. Maeve, repped by Abrams Agency and Principato-Young, recurred on Gossip Girl.

Will Arnett To Co-Star In NBC's Emily Spivey Comedy Pilot

NBC's untitled Emily Spivey comedy pilot is building a star-studded cast. Arrested Development alum Will Arnett has closed a deal to join Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph in the project, executive produced by Saturday Night Live honcho Lorne Michaels. The project, written by former SNL scribe Emily Spivey, is described as an irreverent look at parenthood through the POV of an acerbic working mother (Applegate) -– who never thought she’d be a mom -– along with her stay-at-home husband (Arnett) and opinionated parents.

Emmy nominee Arnett, who recently co-created/toplined Fox's comedy Running Wilde, had planned not to do a pilot this season despite being approached for several projects but liked Spivey's script. Arnett, repped by WME and Principato-Young, also has a relationship with Michaels as he has been recurring on the Michaels-produced NBC series 30 Rock.

Cinemax Greenlights 'Transporter' Series Executive Produced by Luc Besson

Cinemax is teaming with Luc Besson for a TV series based on his popular Transporter film franchise. After lengthy negotiations, HBO's sibling pay-cable channel has committed to 12 episodes of  the action drama, produced by French company Atlantique and executive produced by Besson. This is the  second series order under Cinemax's current push in original scripted fare. Last month, the network partnered with British satcaster Sky for another action series, the 10-part Strike Back.

Transporter, the series, will center on professional transporter Frank Martin, played in the movies by Jason Statham. Operating in a seedy underworld of dangerous criminals and desperate players, Martin can always be counted on to get the job done — discreetly. He has three rules: Never change the deal, no names and never open the package.

Transporter, which has also secured broadcasters in France (M6) and Germany (RTL) will begin production this summer in Europe and Canada and will be presented at the upcoming MIPTV market. According to Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp., the budget for the series is $48 million. Atlantique's parent company Lagardere Entertainment is fully-financing the show, having licensed The Transporter from EuropaCorp. In addition to Besson, the series is being executive produced by Klaus Zimmermann and Fred Fuchs.

Second Series For Sky1's Strike Back

Sky1 HD drama Strike Back is set to return for a second season, it has been announced.

The series will mark the first ever co-production between Sky and HBO/Cinemax, following on from the exclusive output deal between the two pay TV broadcasters.

Left Bank Pictures will once again produce the high-octane drama, which, in addition to making its US debut, will increase its run from six to 10 parts.

Based on the hugely successful novels by ex-SAS soldier, Chris Ryan, the second series of Strike Back will feature original storylines that run across globe-spanning settings, as a former US Special Forces operative teams up with Section 20 to stop an international terrorist group.

Richard Armitage returns as John Porter and two new characters will be introduced, played by Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton.

Elaine Pyke, Sky’s head of drama, said: "The scale and ambition of the first series of Strike Back really showed UK audiences the scope of Sky’s ambitions for drama.

"Now, with HBO as a co-producer, and a longer series of ten parts, we look forward to series two being even bigger and better. I really feel that this ambitious co-production highlights the importance of creating compelling original drama for our customers."

Filming is expected to begin on location in South Africa later this month.

The Rock: 'WrestleMania is for the fans

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has said that his return to WWE is for his fans.

The wrestler-turned-actor announced on Monday Night Raw that he will be taking on John Cena in the main event at WrestleMania XXVIII in his hometown of Miami next year.

"I wanted to do something special for the fans - it really came down to doing something special for them," he told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show.

"I've been very close over the years to Vince McMahon, who is the chairman of WWE, and we wanted to create something historic. What is historic and special for the fans? The Rock coming back and kicking ass all over the place!"

Leno later suggested that he would like to see The Rock - who demonstrated his 'People's Eyebrow' during the interview - wrestle Charlie Sheen, joking that the actor has adopted the wrestler's 'Bring It' catchphrase.

"We might have to set something up," replied Johnson, who also appeared at last week's WrestleMania XXVII. "I'll be quick to lay the smackdown on his candy ass!"

WrestleMania XXVIII takes place on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Showtime Picks Up 'Homeland' & 'House Of Lies' To Series

New Showtime entertainment president David Nevins is going 2-for-2 in his first development season at the pay cable networks, picking up both pilots he ordered, drama Homeland and comedy House of Lies, to series. Both have received 12-episode orders and will start production in the summer. Thriller Homeland, from 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, stars Claire Danes, Damien Lewis and Emmy and Mandy Patinkin, while management consulting comedy House of Lies is toplined by Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell. “Homeland and House of Lies are audacious in both their concept and their casting," Nevins said. "They build upon the network’s successful pedigree and expand the definition of what a SHOWTIME series can be.

Homeland, produced by Fox 21, is based on Gideon Raff's Israeli series Prisoners of War. Written by Gordon, Raff and Alex Gansa, it tells the story of Carrie Anderson (Claire Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Scott Brody (Damian Lewis), a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed deal for nine years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil.  Mandy Patinkin plays Saul, a veteran CIA Division Chief who is Carrie’s (Danes) boss and mentor.

House of Lies, written and executive produced by Matthew Carnahan, was based on the tell-all book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time by Martin Kihn. Cheadle stars as Marty, a highly-successful and cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his way with and for his clients.  Kristen Bell plasy Jeannie Van Der Hooven, a razor-sharp, Ivy-League graduate who works at Marty’s firm. Co-stars include comedian Ben Schwartz, Josh Lawson, Dawn Oliveri, Glynn Turman and Donis Leonard Jr. Also executive producing are Jessika Borsiczky and Stephen Hopkins who directed the pilot
