Snyder 'wants Bale for Batman movie'

Zack Snyder has admitted that he wants Christian Bale to play Batman for his The Dark Knight Returns movie.

The Watchmen director had previously expressed interest in turning Frank Miller's graphic novel, about an ageing Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement to take on Gotham City criminals for one last time, into a full-length feature film.

Snyder revealed that he hopes that the proposed superhero venture will eventually be made, while he would also like Dark Knight star Bale to headline his production.

He told MTV: "It will be only 20 years from now, and it’ll be Christian Bale in his 50s. And by then, Chris [Nolan] will be over it and I'll roll up and be like, 'Let's make a Dark Knight movie!'"

He added: "A scenario like that is probably the only way I could see it happening. [But Bale] would be tired of it, I'm sure."

The filmmaker recently announced details about Vanessa Hudgens's role in his upcoming film Sucker Punch, due out in cinemas in 2011

Jackman, Cyrus not remaking 'Bodyguard'

Hugh Jackman's representative has dismissed rumours that he will star opposite Miley Cyrus in a new project loosely based on The Bodyguard.

The Wolverine star and Cyrus sparked speculation of a collaboration after they were allegedly seen enjoying a business lunch together in California last month.

However, a spokesperson for Jackman told Gossip Cop that the report is "totally false" and that there are no plans to remake the romantic drama.

It had been suggested that the venture, tentatively titled Personal Security, would see Jackman playing a police detective hired to guard a spoiled teenage heiress.

Marshall to direct Depp in 'Pirates 4'?

Disney has reportedly contacted director Rob Marshall about directing the next Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.

Jerry Bruckheimer revealed earlier that filming on the fourth instalment is to begin shooting next year, with Johnny Depp lined up to reprise his Captain Jack Sparrow role.

The Chicago filmmaker will join the project to ensure that it will go before cameras in 2010 as planned, Variety reports.

The director of the first three films Gore Verbinski turned down helming the sequel in order to adapt video game BioShock into a feature.

Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner in the previous Pirates movies, has allegedly declined to appear in the proposed follow-up.

Marshall's upcoming adaptation of the Broadway musical Nine, which stars Nicole Kidman and Dame Judi Dench, opens in cinemas in November.

Johansson 'in lead to play Marilyn Monroe'

Scarlett Johansson is reportedly the frontrunner to play Marilyn Monroe in an upcoming biopic.

According to Contactmusic, the 24-year-old actress is said to be the favourite to portray the blonde bombshell in a new film about her visit to London in 1957.

Director Simon Curtis and producer David Parfitt have reportedly ranked Johansson at the top of a list of actresses that are being considered for the film My Week With Marilyn.

Columnist Baz Bamigboye has revealed that Kate Hudson, Amy Adams and Michelle Williams have also been mentioned as potential stars of the film.

My Week With Marilyn will be based on the unpublished excerpts of the diary of Colin Clark.

'Funny People' debuts at top of US box office

Judd Apatow's Funny People starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen has debuted at the top of the US box office with a mere $23.4 million.

The $75 million-budgeted comedy marks Sandler's worst opening at the North American box office since 2004's Spanglish.

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince has remained in the number two spot for a consecutive week, followed by last week's box office champ G-Force at number three with $17 million and Katherine Heigl's The Ugly Truth in the number 4 spot with $13 million.

The second debut is the family/adventure movie Aliens In The Attic at number five with $7.8 million.

Finally, the summer's biggest blockbuster Transformers 2 slips to the number 10 spot, potentially marking its last showing on the top ten with $4.6 million.

Schreiber: 'I'm spiritually younger as a dad'

Liev Schreiber has said that he feels "spiritually younger" since becoming a father.

The 41-year-old actor, who has two children with fiancée Naomi Watts, has admitted that he "feels much older" but that fatherhood has altered his state of mind in a positive way.

Schreiber told People: "I'm older physically, but spiritually much younger."

As far as his 2-year-old son Pete learning how to talk, the Taking Woodstock actor has said that he is thrilled to hear his son expressing himself.

"Sasha has learned how to say 'I love you'. It's unrecognisable but he does say it. Rhythmically he can kind of sound it out. It kind of sounds like 'Iwoveu', which is very exciting."

Jeremy Renner linked to 'Mad Max 4'

Jeremy Renner has revealed that he has been screen-tested for Mad Max 4, reports Ain't It Cool.

Renner, who was confirmed to star in Ben Affleck's new movie The Town last week, also claimed that he had arranged a meeting with director George Miller.

"I'm fighting to do the new Mad Max film... That might be next summer," he said. "I'm screen-testing and meeting George Miller."

Renner's comments support rumours that Mel Gibson will not return to the action franchise.

Miller said earlier this year that he "probably would go a different route" in casting the film, which he said would be produced as a 3D anime.

Tatum 'wants to emulate Statham success'

Channing Tatum has said that he would like to achieve the same level of success as fellow action star Jason Statham.

The G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra actor told Metro that he can only aspire to Statham's accomplishments at present.

Tatum said: "'Look, he's done some really cool, really, really great work. I don't know if I can compare, you know? I only hope that I can be up to where he is one day."

Regarding action superstar Bruce Willis, he added: "Bruce Willis? Hey, he's the man! But I think those times are gone. Film's changing.

"I can't do the same career path as the guys who came before me. Nowadays there's either gonna be really small films or really huge tent-pole movies like GI Joe, with very few pictures inbetween."

Lindsay Lohan "excited" about 'Machete'

Lindsay Lohan has confirmed that she will appear in Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete.

The filmmaker had sparked rumours of her involvement after he told MTV News that he had sent the Mean Girls star a script and was hopeful that she would agree to the role.

Writing on her Twitter blog over the weekend, the actress posted a link to the movie's IMDB page and said: "Something was made official today!"

She later added that she was "excited to be back on set again" and explained that her recently-acquired platinum blonde hair was for the film.

"I was so upset to hurt my red natural hair that I finally got back," she wrote. "But this movie is worth the dye job!"

Machete is a feature-length expansion of the fake trailer that originally played before Rodriguez's 2007 movie Grindhouse.

Pegg "thrilled" about 'Trek' DSMA success

Simon Pegg has said that he is "thrilled" about Star Trek's nominations at DS's inaugural Movie Awards.

The J.J. Abrams-directed reinvention of the science fiction franchise, starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, won nods in the Movie Of The Year and Best Blockbuster categories.

British actor Pegg, who plays Enterprise engineer Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott in the film, told DS: "It's an honour to be part of such a beloved story and I'm thrilled Star Trek has been nominated for the Digital Spy Movie Awards."

Voting for the awards will remain open throughout August, with the winners revealed in October.

Arnold: 'True Lies sequel will be made'

Tom Arnold has admitted that a sequel to True Lies is currently in development.

The Happy Endings actor previously said that he tried to persuade the original's Arnold Schwarzenegger to reprise his secret agent Harry Trasker role for director James Cameron in an update.

Arnold has now claimed that a follow-up to the 1994 action comedy, co-starring Jamie Lee Curtis, will go before cameras when Schwarzenegger's term as California's governor is over, according to the New York Times.

He said: "All I know is Jim Cameron's making it and Arnold and I are going to be in it, and it starts shooting in 14 months, the day after Arnold stops being governor of California."

He added: "It's not going to be called True Lies II, but it might as well be. I can live with that."

It was reported earlier that Curtis's striptease in True Lies was named the best movie scene in history.

Thieves steal equipment from 007 studios

Thieves have stolen thousands of pounds worth of filming equipment from the legendary Pinewood Studios in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Police said that the intruders gained access to the facility by breaking padlocks on the back gates, smashing windows and removing doors from hinges.

"They stole various specialist cameras and lenses which are worth a lot of money," said detective constable Sebastian Wilson.

"They have also stolen a Sony SRW 5000, a device which converts footage into high definition format and which alone is worth £65,000 pounds."

Among the items reported missing were cameras being used to film Gulliver's Travels, starring Jack Black and Emily Blunt, and the new Robin Hood film featuring Russell Crowe.

"The thieves were disturbed by a security guard who believes that one of the vehicles used in the daring raid was an expensive silver coloured sports car, possibly a Lexus," added Wilson.

"I am particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have been offered specialist filming equipment for sale or who saw vehicles driving in the area at speed."

Pinewood Studios, which boasts the famous 007 stage, has hosted numerous blockbusters in recent years, including The Dark Knight, The Da Vinci Code and the James Bond franchise.

Carla Gugino cast as 'Sucker Punch' madam

Carla Gugino has been added to the cast of Zack Snyder's fantasy action film Sucker Punch, says Variety.

Reuniting with her Watchmen director, Gugino will play a nurse at an all-girl insane asylum who becomes a madam when several patients slip into an alternate reality.

Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung and Jena Malone will lead the female-centric cast.

Production on Warner Bros's Sucker Punch commences in the autumn, with director Snyder also producing alongside wife Deborah.

'Potter' star to put acting on hold

Bonnie Wright has announced that she plans to put her acting career on the backburner after she finishes work on the Harry Potter movies.

The 18-year-old, who plays the boy wizard's love interest Ginny Weasley in the films, has decided to focus on life behind the camera for the foreseeable future.

Wright told The Daily Telegraph: "I'm starting a film production course at the University of the Arts, London.

"There's a bit of acting involved, but it's mainly production and directing. David Yates, the Harry Potter director, was so excited when I told him that's what I was planning to do."

The actress has recently been filming Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, the final movie in the series, which will be released in two parts in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Lead star Daniel Radcliffe is also said to be eyeing a directing career following advice from his Potter colleagues.

Campbell killed off in 'Scream 4'?

Kevin Williamson has hinted that he may kill off Neve Campbell's character in Scream 4.

The screenwriter told the New York Post in June that he was having writer's block and trying to figure out "a Sid-less scenario", referring to penning a sequel without franchise heroine Sidney Prescott.

Courtney Cox and David Arquette have confirmed that they will return to the series, but Williamson indicated that Campbell's character may have met an untimely ending in the ten-year span between movies.

He told MTV: "It’s gonna sort of involve our returning characters - the only characters left alive. We’ve got Courtney Cox and David Arquette returning."

Williamson added that the film will be a direct sequel to the events in the first trilogy, adding: "[The movie] picks up after Scream 3 - ten years later."

Director Wes Craven recently told DS that he would consider directing the new instalment.

Critic: 'Gay Sherlock Holmes won't work'

Film critic Michael Medved has claimed that a gay version of Sherlock Holmes will not be "appealing" to cinema audiences.

Director Guy Ritchie reportedly wrote the characters of Holmes and his sidekick Watson as gay in his remake of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle detective story.

Star Robert Downey Jr recently explained that he and co-star Jude Law (Watson) share "circumstantial homosexuality" in the upcoming film.

However, Medved said that the actors are playing up the angle for the sake of generating controversy, the New York Post reports.

He told the newspaper: "There's not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals. I think they're just trying to generate controversy."

He added: "They know that making Holmes and Watson homosexual will take away two-thirds of their box office. Who is going to want to see Downey Jr and Law make out?

"I don't think it would be appealing to women. Straight men don't want to see it."

Sherlock Holmes will open in cinemas on December 26.

Sommers 'already planning GI Joe sequel'

Director Stephen Sommers has admitted that he is already working on a sequel to GI Joe.

The Mummy filmmaker said that there was more "mythology" surrounding the elite military team that he would like to explore in a potential follow-up.

"Because the mythology is all there, there's a lot of interesting stuff," he told Cinematical.

"Like, something you don't know yet is who killed Hard Master. I mean, the hardcore GI Joe fans know that it wasn't Storm Shadow."

Sommers also credited the experience of working alongside stars Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller as a reason to revisit the characters in another instalment.

He added: "But I hope I get to do a sequel, first of all because I had so much fun with these actors. I go into these movies knowing it's a marathon, not a sprint, and I won't work with a**eholes.

"We had a blast – it was really hard, but we had a lot of fun on the set, so to get to hang out with these people again would be just heaven."

It was reported earlier that Paramount Pictures will not screen GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra for a majority of critics prior to its August 7 opening.

Duhamel joins Heigl's 'Life As We Know It'

Josh Duhamel has been added to the cast of Katherine Heigl's romantic drama Life As We Know It, says Variety.

The movie centres on two single adults who are named joint guardians of a young girl after her parents, mutual friends of the pair, are killed in a car accident.

Greg Berlanti will direct the Warner Bros movie from Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson's script.

Heigl's new movie The Ugly Truth is out in cinemas today.

'Silent Hill' actress linked to 'Twilight 3'

Jodelle Ferland has become the latest addition to the cast of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, according to Variety.

The 14-year-old actress has reportedly been cast in the role of a "vampire who has just been turned", although her actual character has yet to be confirmed.

Ferland previously starred in 2006 horror film Silent Hill, and has recently finished production on Case 39 alongside Renee Zellweger.

She is the third new addition to the vampire franchise, following news that Australian newcomer Xavier Samuel has been cast as college student Riley and that Bryce Dallas Howard will replace Rachelle Lefevre in the role of Victoria.

Production on Eclipse is scheduled to begin later this month for a June 2010 release.

Pitt, Aniston 'wanted for Traveller's Wife'

The Time Traveller's Wife screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin has confirmed speculation that he wrote the romantic drama with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston in mind.

The Ghost scribe began working on the project, based on the bestselling novel by Audrey Niffenegger, before Pitt and Aniston divorced in 2005.

Speaking to OK, he said: "I thought they would be perfect for this film. I just saw them as a perfect version of Henry and Clare.

"I just found them equally attractive and equally compelling, and in terms of the Hollywood arena at that time, they were as good a couple as you could find. I was writing it in my mind for them."

Pitt and Aniston had initially owned the rights to the novel through their production company Plan B Entertainment, although the former Friends actress left the firm following their split.

The roles eventually went to Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, who Rubin branded "wonderful embodiments of who I envisioned would be on screen".

The Time Traveller's Wife is released on August 14.
