Dench swearing 'prompts complaints'

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has said that it almost always receives complaints from the public when Dame Judi Dench swears on film.

Its annual report noted that four of the six viewers who complained about the 12A-rated Quantum Of Solace had objected to Dench uttering the phrase "pretty cold bastard".

The board said: "Almost every time Dame Judi swears in a film, regardless of its category, we can expect a number of complaints."

BBFC spokeswoman Sue Clark told The Guardian: "I suppose people don't think she's that sort of person; they don't think it's appropriate for her to swear."

The classification board noted that both complaints it received regarding Mrs Henderson Presents concerned Dench saying "Who gives a fiddler's f**k?", while all three letters objecting to Notes On A Scandal regarded her use of the word "c***".

Pattinson film 'hindered by cracked building'

Filming on Robert Pattinson's new movie has reportedly been hindered by a structurally unsafe building nearby.

According to OK!, emergency services flocked to an area near the set of Remember Me after a sensor monitoring a cracked building was set off, indicating that the crack was widening.

One production member said: "It's causing a hold-up for the shoot. We can't get anything in or out of here."

It is thought that five fire engines and 20 fire and rescue officers arrived at the location while Pattinson was rehearsing his dialogue for the romantic drama.

"Robert was concentrating on his scene," said one witness. "But most of the crew were staring nervously at the crack in the building and talking about whether it will fall down or not."

Remember Me, which co-stars Lost actress Emilie de Ravin, is scheduled for release next year.

Zak Penn: 'Avengers movie might suck'

Screenwriter Zak Penn has said that he hopes the proposed Avengers project will be a "good movie".

Penn has been given the task of figuring out how to make his superhero film mesh with the upcoming Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America movies scheduled for release prior to the Avengers's 2012 premiere, SciFiWire reports.

He admitted that he is daunted by the responsibility of bringing all the characters together on screen in a cohesive manner.

He said: "It's hard to make a good movie. We all have the best intentions, and it still might suck."

Penn added that he is meeting with writers of the other Marvel projects so that they can put together storylines which will overlap.

He explained: "They're doing Captain America and Thor first, and then Avengers is coming out.

"I'm taking a meeting next week with the Thor and Captain America people, and we are all going to get together, and I will see what is going to happen. I'll see where they are leaving the characters; it's pretty complicated.

"There's a board that is tracking what is happening. [We'll see] how this movie overlaps in that movie."

Penn previously wrote the screenplays for the last two X-Men movies.

Marvel recently announced that it has pushed back the release dates for all three in-development films.

Diaz "very excited" about Cruise reunion

Cameron Diaz has admitted that she cannot wait to start working with Tom Cruise on their upcoming movie Wichita.

The Vanilla Sky co-stars will reunite for the action comedy which revolves around a spy attempting to romance an unlucky-in-love woman.

Speaking to Us Weekly, she said: "I'm very, very excited about doing it. It's an action film, so I'm really excited to work with him."

Diaz, who received the 2,368th Hollywood star earlier this week, added that it "was wonderful" to see Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes at her unveiling ceremony.

"It was fantastic. It was so lovely of them to come out and show support. My whole family was there and my friends were there. And I consider them that as well. So it was really wonderful to have them there."

Wichita is scheduled for release next summer.

Transformers 2' grosses record $60.6 mil at the box office on Wednesday

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is one massive movie. The Michael Bay-directed juggernaut earned an astounding $60.6 million on its opening day at the box office. No other film has earned that much money in the middle of the week, and only The Dark Knight ever banked so much in a single day (it grossed $67.2 million on opening day last summer).

How Transformers 2 will hold through the weekend will be very interesting to see. The fanboys sure came out in force on opening day. Snyder: '300' sequel will be on crazier steroids

Director Zack Snyder has revealed that the sequel to 300 will be on a much grander scale than the original.

The Watchmen helmer wants the follow-up to have the same budget as the first film, but also revealed that writer Frank Miller has promised an upgrade on the movie's scope.

Snyder told ComingSoon.net: "I think we would use the same technology... I don't want it to look too Star Wars-ian... Just from what [Miller] told me, it would be bigger as far as landscape and terrain.

"We're going to see Athens and the Aegean and other places. There would be an opportunity for bigger visions, though I'd hope for the same aesthetic. The tech we used for 300 was not a revolution. It's basically what the weatherman has."

He added: "Look, instead of Accuweather it's Sparta... It's going to be the same way, but on crazier steroids."

Miller is reportedly working on a graphic novel for the sequel.

Abrams: 'Star Trek' sequel open to anything

J.J. Abrams has admitted that potential plotlines for the Star Trek sequel are wide open, according to reports.

The Lost creator had previously suggested that the follow-up would only transpire if the first film was a success at the box office.

However, Abrams admitted that he is excited at the prospect of exploring classic Trek missions with a new perspective, SciFiWire reports.

He said: "The great thing is we're all open to anything. I think the fun of where we are with Trek is that it can and should just be fully explored. So I think to limit ourselves to only new adventures would be a mistake.

"But I also think we want to take advantage of this moment and figure out what's the most exciting version for the new audience as well."

Earlier this week, screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman said that they were in discussions about possible storylines and were gathering ideas from the original TV series.

Abrams also recently announced that he will produce Mission: Impossible 4, starring Tom Cruise.

Stone 'bullied Douglas on Wall Street set'

Michael Douglas has revealed that Oliver Stone "bullied" him on the set of 1987 film Wall Street.

The actor, 65, said that the helmer constantly questioned his acting abilities and even asked him if he was on drugs during the film shoot, Contactmusic reports.

"He came into my trailer and said, 'You doing drugs?' I said, 'No', He said, 'Because you don't look like you've ever acted in your life'," Douglas told People.

However, he later realised that Stone was being tough on him to give his screen character an added edginess, while Douglas won an Academy Award for his performance as Gordon Gekko.

He added: "He was willing for me to hate him for the rest of the picture if it gave him (Gekko) that much more of a twist."

It was recently announced that Douglas will reprise the role for the sequel Money Never Sleeps, to be directed by Stone and co-starring Shia LeBeouf.

Green Lantern' rumours falsified

Green Lantern screenwriter Marc Guggenheim has played down casting rumours surrounding the big screen adaptation of the DC Comic.

Speaking to Sci Fi Wire, he told fans to dismiss speculation linking Star Trek's Chris Pine and The Hangover's Bradley Cooper to the lead role of Hal Jordan, claiming the reports were "all false".

"They're all false insofar as we haven't chosen anyone yet. They're still in the negotiations, you know? There's a lot of names being talked about, and there's a lot of people being met, and a lot of... actors reading the script," he said.

Guggenheim went on to assure fans that his adaptation will be faithful to the source material. "The goal here is to do the best cinematic representation of the Green Lantern character," he added.

"You know, there's no desire on anyone's part to completely change the character and just call this other character Green Lantern and try to... draft off the name recognition. This is all about, 'How do we bring the best version of this character to the silver screen?'"

Green Lantern will arrive in cinemas on June 17, 2011.

Grace, Roberts join 'Valentine's Day'

Topher Grace, Emma Roberts and Hector Elizondo have joined the cast of romcom Valentine's Day, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Garry Marshall-directed project also counts Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Shirley MacLaine, Bradley Cooper and Ashton Kutcher among its ensemble cast.

The New Line film is made up of five loosely-connected stories that unfold over the course of a Valentine's Day in Los Angeles.

Grace will play the boyfriend of Hathaway's talent agency character. Roberts, working with her aunt Julia, has been cast as a teen who wants to lose her virginity, while Elizondo will star as MacLaine's husband.

Paramount picks up 'Hellified' script

Paramount has purchased Andy Burg's script Hellified, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Little has been revealed about the planned movie, only that it is a supernatural action story that centres on a journey to hell.

Dan Bradley (the upcoming Red Dawn remake) will direct with Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura steering the project.

Burg worked on K-9 and chidren's film Alaska, only to branch off into a new career as an internet entrepreneur in the early '00s.

Scorsese hails "extraordinary" Jackson

Martin Scorsese has paid tribute to Michael Jackson, calling the late music icon "extraordinary".

The Oscar-winning filmmaker, who directed the music video for Jackson's 1987 hit 'Bad', told MTV of his admiration for the King Of Pop's "quicksilver" abilities as a performer.

"Michael Jackson was extraordinary," Scorsese said. "When we worked together on 'Bad,' I was in awe of his absolute mastery of movement on the one hand, and of the music on the other.

"Every step he took was absolutely precise and fluid at the same time. It was like watching quicksilver in motion. He was wonderful to work with, an absolute professional at all times, and - it really goes without saying - a true artist. It will be awhile before I can get used to the idea that he's no longer with us."

Jackson passed away at a Los Angeles hosptial yesterday after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest at his Bel Air home.

'Transformers' duo deny fault in racism row

Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have refused to take the blame in the Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen racism row.

A recent report claimed that some viewers have complained about robots Skids and Mudflap being racial caricatures.

Director Michael Bay said earlier: "[They] were kind of written but not really written, so the voice actors is when we started to really kind of come up with their characters."

However, Kurtzman suggested to FilmSchoolRejects.com that he and co-writers Orci and Ehren Kruger were not responsible for the controversial characterisation.

"It's really hard for us to sit here and try to justify it," said Kurtzman. "I think that would be very foolish, and if someone wants to be offended by it, it's their right. We were very surprised when we saw it, too, and it's a choice that was made. If anything, it just shows you that we don't control every aspect of the movie."

When asked if he was offended by the portrayal of the robots, who talk in street slang and are unable to read, Kurtzman replied: "I wasn't thrilled. I certainly wasn't thrilled."

Orci added: "Same reaction. I'm not easily offended, but when I saw it, I thought, 'Someone's going to write about that'."

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is playing in cinemas now.

Depp: 'I don’t like watching myself'

Johnny Depp has revealed that he never watches any of his films.

The Ed Wood actor explained why on David Letterman's US chatshow last night while promoting his latest movie Public Enemies, The Huffington Post reports.

He said: "In a way, once my job is done on a film, it's really none of my business. I stay as far away as I possibly can... I don't like watching myself."

Depp added that his children, ten-year-old Lily-Rose and Jack, seven, are bigger fans of his pictures than he is, saying: "My kids have seen more of my films than I have."

Earlier this week, he confirmed that he will collaborate with director Tim Burton for an eighth time on a big screen version of gothic ’60s soap opera Dark Shadows.

Public Enemies opens in cinemas on July 3.

Weinstein: Pitt wants 'Inglourious Basterds 2'

Harvey Weinstein has said that Brad Pitt is willing to do a sequel to Inglourious Basterds.

The Weinstein Company co-chairman told GQ that Pitt has already said that he's on-board, should an update be made, Total Film reports.

He said: "Brad wants to do Inglorious II. We all want to do it. And the movie hasn’t even come out yet! But unfortunately I cannot give away the plot."

The producer explained that director Quentin Tarantino had so much material left over from the original that they considered making it into a Band Of Brothers style television series.

He added: "We could do two movies, three movies. I was begging for the movies, but Quentin wanted to do the TV series, Bob wanted to do the TV series, so it was like two against one, you know?

"And I was getting outvoted all over the place, so I just figured, alright, forget it, I’m not gonna be a loser, I’ll jump to the winning side. And then Quentin turns it into one movie. Go figure."

Last month, the Pulp Fiction helmer revealed that he had written half a script for a prequel to the current movie, which arrives in cinemas on August 21.

Fox reveals 'Transformers' bomb explosion

Megan Fox has revealed that stunt doubles narrowly escaped death on the set of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen after a gas bomb unexpectedly exploded.

The body doubles for Fox and co-star Shia LaBeouf were filming a scene when a controlled explosion went awry and was set off too early.

"Our stunt doubles almost died because there was a gas bomb and it blew up too early," she said. "But everyone survived."

Earlier this year, LaBeouf claimed that he was nearly blinded after a freak accident on set.

Kerry Washington 'refuses to be typecast'

Kerry Washington has reportedly insisted that she has steered away from being typecast as an actress.

In her upcoming film, Life Is Hot In Cracktown, the actress plays a transgendered, crack-addicted prostitute and has admitted she could have been more successful in Hollywood if she would have chosen to play stereotypical roles throughout her career.

Washington told Vibe magazine: "I think in some ways I’d probably be a lot successful if I let myself be typecast.

"But I have a natural need for diversity and I like to stay on top of my craft."

She added: "I didn’t become an actor because I wanted people to like me. I became an actor because I wanted to share stories about humanity. So that’s what I do."

Sienna Miller: 'I'm an indie girl at heart'

Sienna Miller has said that she is an "indie girl at heart".

The 27-year-old actress has admitted she was surprised when she accepted a role in G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra.

With a resume that includes Factory Girl, Interview and The Edge of Love, Miller has said that she was taken aback by the idea that she could juggle independent and big-budgeted features.

Miller told Total Film: "Well, I'd always intended to do the more artistic, independent projects that often require an emotionally gruelling performance. But I think I got to a point where I just wanted to go and see.

"I'd really avoided doing anything of this magnitude before but it felt right at the time."

Adam Sandler 'vows to get naked'

Adam Sandler has promised to get naked on the set of his new movie, it has emerged.

Sandler has said he wants the cast and crew of Born To Be A Star to go naked to prevent the stars of the movie from being nervous, reports Contactmusic.

As the writer and producer of the porn comedy, Sandler has insisted to strip down when several of the ensemble nude scenes are filmed.

"He told the cast, 'If you have to get naked, everyone on this set has to get naked'. Now the crew are all really nervous," said an unidentified source.

Joining the cast of Born To Be A Star will be Stephen Dorff and Christina Ricci.
