Bay slams 'Transformers' ad campaign

Director Michael Bay has slammed Paramount for its Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen marketing campaign.

Website TMZ has published an email (dated May 4) from Bay to executives, among them CEO Brad Grey and Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, in which the director blasts the studio for not spending enough money publicising the robot sequel's summer release.

"I have been waiting and waiting for the 'anticipation' of an 'event movie' to make it into the 'public zeitgeist'," Bay wrote. "You all talk so glowingly about Transformers being the movie of the summer but unfortunately this has not gotten to the public. I still run into so many people even this weekend with kids that ask 'is that movie coming out this year'."

He continued: "Right now we are not an event. We are just a sequel, which is very different. There is no anticipation. Remember back to Spider-Man 2 - it was everywhere."

Bay also criticised the print campaign for the action film, calling it an "abject failure". He described Entertainment Weekly's coverage as "really weak" and the Los Angels Times's preview as "pathetic".

The filmmaker added that Paramount risked getting "bitten in the ass" by not turning the release into an "event" for cinema-goers.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is showing in UK cinemas now and is released in the US on Friday.

Blunt 'embarrassed by acting talk'

Emily Blunt has said that she prefers not to talk too much about the acting process.

The Young Victoria star told The Observer that she does not think too often about how she does her job.

Blunt said: "I don't really take it that seriously. Maybe I'm supposed to but I don't. I can't define what the method is. I don't really think you know what you're going to do until you do it.

"I think it's embarrassing to hear people talk about their process because you always sound a bit w**ky. You always imagine people are reading the article going: 'Oh, get a real job.'"

She added: "The performances I enjoy are the ones that are hard to read or ambiguous or left-of-centre because it makes you look closer and that's what humans are like - quite mysterious creatures, hard to pinpoint."

Megan Fox 'won't go nude on film'

Megan Fox has said that she will not strip naked for a film role in the near future despite her status as a sexy movie star.

The Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen actress told Parade that she appreciated being called a sex symbol but felt that she was "undeserving" of the label.

Fox said: "I get really embarrassed and I don't know how to handle it. It's like I'm in my underwear every other week in a magazine, so it's not like I'm trying to hide it.

"There's nothing wrong with being sexy or being sexual or being a woman. I'm not afraid of that. I just don't necessarily like to talk about myself that way."

She added: "I haven't even thought about doing nudity in films, but I'm gonna say that I'm leaning towards 'no', as of right now.

"I can't speak for the future. People change. It can be beautiful. And it can have a great impact. And it can win you an Oscar. I mean, not the nudity itself, but the role."

Broadbent: 'Potter' experience extraordinary

Jim Broadbent has described his experience filming Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince as "extraordinary".

The actor, who plays Professor Slughorn in the sixth instalment of the wizarding franchise, told The Guardian that his first day on the set had been "daunting".

"The main sets feel so permanent, having been there since the start, which means it's very easy to get drawn into the world of Hogwarts," he explained.

"It was rather daunting turning up on set with all these young actors, it could so easily have been a nightmare, given that the five films have had such huge success.

"But the kids turned out to be terrific. There was no brattish behaviour or starry, Fame Academy behaviour, they just get on with it."

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince is released next month.

Johnny Depp has admitted that he would be open to playing the Riddler in a future Batman movie.

The Public Enemies star, who was first linked to the iconic role last year, told MTV News that he would be interested in exploring the character.

"If the opportunity came, I'd definitely juggle it. I always liked the Riddler," he said.

"I always liked Frank Gorshin. Frank Gorshin was brilliant. I always thought he was a great actor."

His Public Enemies co-star Christian Bale, who starred in last year's The Dark Knight, added that while he is an admirer of Depp's work, the decision would ultimately rest with the movie's director.

Transformer Hero Labeouf Impaled His Face On A Spike

Shia Labeouf has opened up about the eye injury on the set of the Transformers sequel, which almost cost him his sight.

Initial reports suggested the actor was injured during a controlled explosion on the set last summer, but the truth is far more grisly than the idea of the actor getting hit by shrapnel.

He explains, "We were in the middle of some chaos and I mistimed something and impaled my face on a spike. I came up and I had a spike in my eye and I had blood coming down my face and it was the dark, dark purplish kind, which is actually a great thing.

"If it had been red-ish and clear, it would mean my eye (had) popped."

And Labeouf's co-stars feared the worst.

Megan Fox says, "His face was destroyed... He (Labeouf) has the highest tolerance for pain that I've ever seen in a human being."

And castmate Josh Duhamel adds, "We thought he'd lost his eye."

Labeouf even impressed members of the military, who were drafted in as extras during a battle scene shoot at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, when he refused to take time off after the injury.

A soldier who was among the extras witnessed the injury and told WENN last year, "We were all pretty impressed. To get up from a movie explosion, which leaves you injured, and get back in there is cool. He's got broken fingers from his car crash and now his eyelid has been slashed open. He's lucky he still has his sight.

"He was treated at the clinic at the airforce base and then a local ophthalmologist came by to check on his eye. He was in the clinic for about four hours and then he returned to the set once the swelling had gone down."

Jesse Eisenberg chats 'Zombieland'

Jesse Eisenberg will be a familiar face for cinemagoers this autumn with turns in coming-of-age amusement park comedy Adventureland (it's very good, and he's witty and whip-smart in it) and horror film Zombieland. DS caught up with Jesse to talk about his movie career and the topics covered included the flesh-eating undead! Here's what he had to say about working on Zombieland, Bill Murray's mysterious cameo, and why he doesn't fancy his chances of being a Ghostbuster.

Can you tell us a bit about Zombieland?
"The movie is kind of a buddy comedy. [Woody Harrelson] plays this guy who loves killing zombies, it's his favourite thing. My character is the opposite, I run from them. I have a list of 47 rules on how to survive. [Woody's character] just loves experimenting with new ways to kill them. It's kind of a funny dichotomy and it's like a road trip buddy movie. I think it'll be really funny."

Is the aim with Zombieland to balance scares and laughs?
"I think it's primarily a comedy. I guess there are some scary parts, I haven't seen it. It seems from filming it that it's 90% funny."

Are you a big horror fan? You were in Wes Craven's Cursed.
"No, not really. I like acting in them, though, it's extreme acting. They're hyperbolic situations. I like that but no, I don't really like watching them."

You're making a habit of appearing in theme park movies, doesn't Zombieland take place in one?
"The end of it does coincidentally take place at an amusement park. They needed a big set piece to end the movie, like we're running around killing zombies at a theme park."

Is it true that Bill Murray is appearing in it?
"I don't know if I'm allowed to say that. I don't know what to say. I think I'll be sued if I say anything about it. I'm not sure, I don't know. Can I not say? I don't want to get in trouble."

As one of the new group of comedy actors coming through, would you be interested in having a crack at Ghostbusters 3?
"Oh, I've never heard of it, I didn't know they were doing another. They probably wouldn't cast me, I don't know why, but I don't get cast in those movies. But yeah, if something's good, I'd be interested. The zombie movie was an amazing script, I loved the script so that's why I wanted to do it."

Adventureland opens in the UK on September 11, with Zomebieland following on October 30.

Johnny Depp discusses 'Pirates 4'

Johnny Depp has spoken out about his decision to return for a fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean film.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, the actor explained that he was happy to resurrect the role of Captain Jack as long as fans were interested.

"I love the character so much and I enjoy playing the character so much and people seem to like it, [so] if there's an opportunity to try again..." JoBlo quotes him as saying.

"It's like going up to bat. You want to get back out there and try and try and try and see what you can do. I enjoy playing Captain Jack very much."

Discussing the existing trilogy, he said: "Call me a glutton if you want... virtually no cinema is perfect, so Pirates one had its own thing, two and three, I suppose, had their own thing."

When asked about possible plotlines for a fourth movie, he joked: "At this point I'm trying to turn it into a Beckett play. It could be anything... Jack could be in some geisha clothing. I don't know. We could explore a lot of possibilities."

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer previously admitted that Pirates 4 was a "priority" for Disney and that he hoped original director Gore Verbinski would return to the helm.

Bale Praised By FBI Agent's Family

Christian Bale has been praised for his performance in Public Enemies by the family of the real life FBI agent he portrays in the new movie.

The British actor plays Agent Melvin Purvis, the man who tracked down legendary 1930s bank robber John Dillinger, who is portrayed by Johnny Depp in the movie.

Bale spent time with Purvis' relatives in preparation for the role and even visited the late law enforcer's grave with his son Alston.

And Alston is delighted with the on-screen results.

He says, "Bale had my father's mannerisms and accent down to the exact detail. He is a superb actor. He wanted to see my family home in South Carolina. We went to the cemetery to see my father's grave."

Weaver: 'I will not be in Ghostbusters 3'

Sigourney Weaver has confirmed that she will not be starring in Ghostbusters 3.

The actress revealed in an interview with TV Squad that she will not reteam with original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis to portray Dana Barrett for the forthcoming update, SciFiSquad.com reports.

'Star Trek' writers 'debating sequel plot'

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have been in discussion over the story for the Star Trek sequel, it has been reported.

The screenwriters, who previously admitted that they were scouring through novels based on the franchise, are now contemplating gathering ideas from the original series, Sci Fi Wire reports.

Orci said: "The debate is do you do a story where you go through some familiar things from the series, but now their outcome can be a little bit different, or do you just make it totally new?

"So we'll see. The best idea wins, original or old."

Kurtzman added: "We just had our first 10-minute conversation the other day. We don't have anything yet. I wish we had more to tell you. I think we're really, really pleased to find that, for the most part, the die-hard fans felt that they connected to the material the way they wanted to.

"So I think that enabled us to take a similar approach, which is to say you have to find a way to give everyone a little bit of something, because people will meet you in the middle."

The pair are also attached to pen the project Cowboys And Aliens, which they will work on before the sci-fi follow-up.

Star Trek grossed £70.9m worldwide in its opening weekend.
