Warner Bros linked to 'Teen Wolf' remake

Warner Brothers is preparing to remake 1980s movie Teen Wolf, according to Moviehole.

The studio, which bought the rights to the film a few years ago, is thought to be looking for writers who can put a new spin on the original story.

The project is still in the early stages of development and no cast or director have been confirmed yet.

The 1985 movie starred Michael J. Fox as a high school student who discovers that he is a werewolf and sets about using his new powers to gain popularity and become a star basketball player.

It was helmed by Rod Daniel and released to capitalise on Fox's success with Back To The Future.

Actor 'injured on Crowe film set'

An actor has reportedly been injured on the set of Russell Crowe's new movie in Wales.

According to the Daily Mail, paramedics were called to treat the unnamed man after he was hurt filming a scene for Robin Hood yesterday.

The extent of his injury is not known.

Photographs from the scene suggest that the incident happened during an epic battle sequence that was being staged at Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire.

The remake, helmed by Ridley Scott, is scheduled for release next year.

DreamWorks confirm 'Boo U' ghost movie

DreamWorks is developing a ghost movie with the working title Boo U, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will tell the story of a rubbish ghost who is forced to return to ghost school to improve his skills. John Vitti, who co-wrote The Simpsons Movie, is penning the script.

Igor's Tony Leondis will direct the movie, which is scheduled for release at the end of 2012.

Earlier this year, DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg referred to Boo U as a "supersecret ghost project".

Other upcoming DreamWorks films include Shrek spinoff Puss In Boots and a third Madagascar film.

Mitchell hired for 'Once Upon A Time'

Mike Mitchell has signed up to helm MGM fantasy-adventure Once Upon A Time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project, which has been compared to the Shrek franchise and Disney's Enchanted, will unite popular fairytale characters Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. The trio will team up to hunt down their missing husbands, the Charming Brothers, and save their kingdom.

Charles Vignola, Kevin Marcus and Bradley Marcus have penned the script.

Mitchell, who is also currently working on Shrek Forever After, directed Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and Sky High.

Sam Mendes eyes 'Butcher's, 'Middlemarch'

Revolutionary Road director Sam Mendes has signed a two-movie deal with Focus Features, the studio behind his upcoming comedy-drama Away We Go.

According to Variety, the British helmer will work on adaptations of the novels Butcher's Crossing and Middlemarch.

Butcher's, penned by John Williams in 1960, is about a man who heads to Kansas to herd buffalo. The novel has drawn critical praise for its deconstruction of the Western genre.

George Ellot's novel Middlemarch will also be developed by scriptwriter Andrew Davies (Brideshead Revisited, Little Dorrit) with a view to Mendes directing. Set in the 1830s, it is made up of several interlocking stories exploring changes in a fictional Midlands town.

"The range of Sam's interests and skills as a filmmaker is limitless, and he is a magnet for top talent in front of and behind the camera," said Focus CEO James Schamus of the deal.

Crowe, Starr lead new Walk Of Fame list

Russell Crowe, Ringo Starr and Adam Sandler are among the latest celebrities to be given stars on Hollywood's Walk Of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce confirmed that 28 entertainers will be awarded the honour next year. The recipients were chosen from more than 200 nominations.

Joining Crowe and Sandler in the film industry category are Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Mark Wahlberg, John Cusack and director James Cameron.

Chatshow host Jimmy Kimmel and actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus are among the television honorees, while ZZ Top, Bryan Adams, Van Morrison and the late Roy Orbison are recognised in the music list.

Opera star Andrea Bocelli has also been honoured in the theatre and live performance category.

Dates for the unveiling ceremonies have not yet been announced.

LaBeouf, Fox name favourite 'Transformers'

Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox have listed off their favourite robotic co-stars from the Transformers sequel.

The pair, who both star in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, said that the follow-up's new CGI robots add an extra level of excitement, MTV reports.

"Devastator is a really cool robot because he’s a Constructicon, and we didn't have a Constructicon in the last one," Fox explained. "Some of the coolest action sequences and set pieces I've ever seen in a movie is with Devastator."

Labeouf cited a scene which involved his interrogation by a small, spider-like Decepticon that is referred to as The Doctor.

He said: "There's an interrogation scene, it's just me on a table surrounded by five robots - one of whom is inside of my mind. [Another robot] is looking at my thoughts on a board.

"And I'm being held down by another one who is holding my arms, and another robot's holding my legs as I am talking to a doctor robot."

It was reported this week that director Michael Bay will not return to helm a third instalment of the franchise.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen opens in cinemas on June 24.

Julianne Hough to join 'Footloose' cast?

Julianne Hough has been lined up for the Footloose remake, according to reports.

The Dancing With The Stars professional is said to be in negotiations to star opposite Chace Crawford for the update of the 1984 film, says E!.

It is understood that the 21-year-old will take on the role only if her schedule permits. Though she had an uncredited bit part as a Hogwarts schoolgirl in Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001, this would be her first time on the big screen.

Hough’s brother Derek, who also partners up with celebrities on the dancing competition, had previously hinted that he may feature in the movie as well.

Earlier this month, the film’s director Kenny Ortega spoke about Julianne at the MTV Movie Awards, saying: "I love her. I adore her. I'm a big fan of hers. Not only how beautiful but how deep her talent goes."

Footloose is scheduled to begin production in March 2010.

Pattinson: 'Twilight' role was impossible'

Robert Pattinson has admitted that he was against the idea of playing vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga when he first auditioned for the part.

As well as starring in the original, the British actor will also portray the character in the second, third and fourth instalments of the fantasy franchise.

Pattinson told Variety: "I thought [the role] was possible when I first read it. I got told about it five months before I did the audition, and I was just saying, 'I can't do it, it's an impossible part to play'.

"You can only play it as a kind of two-dimensional, like, blob. You just have to be a man meat. You just come in [to the audition], taking your shirt off, and be some bland thing which people can project whatever they want onto."

The star, who was reportedly hit by a New York taxi filming upcoming movie Remember Me earlier this week, added that he was originally not prepared to shape up for the Twilight role.

"I didn't even want to bother getting a six-pack. It is a very tricky part," he said.

Jack Black: 'Year One' is historical document'

Jack Black has revealed his belief that new comedy Year One is a "historical document".

The Tropic Thunder star said that his upcoming biblical movie, which revolves around two hunter-gatherers deported from their village and summoned upon a voyage through the ancient world, pays homage to Monty Python's Life Of Brian.

"It's a big historical document, this movie. I'm in there as this primitive man," he told The Late Show With David Letterman.

Black joked: "We filmed it in primitive Shreveport, Louisiana. And in New Mexico, that looked biblical. We're like Neanderthal guys but we wander through biblical times and it's kind of a homage to Monty Python movies, like The Life Of Brian."

The actor stars in the film alongside Superbad's Michael Cera, who Black called the new Walter Matthau.

"Kyle Gass plays the eunuch brilliantly, born to do it. Michael Cera, he's 21 and so funny it's incredible. I say he's a young Walter Matthau. Less grumpy but just as brilliant," he added.

Year One is released to UK cinemas on June 26.

'The Proposal' leads the box office with $12.4 mil on Friday

Moviegoers couldn't say no to The Proposal as the romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds topped the box office on Friday, according to early estimates. The movie's $12.4 million gross marks the best opening day ever for Bullock and nearly doubles the result of her previous film, 2007's Premonition, which earned $6.3 million on its first day. Battling for second place were two raunchy comedies: Harold Ramis' prehistoric (and poorly reviewed) Year One and the summer's unexpected hit, The Hangover, which dropped a mere 18% from last Friday. Both movies tallied approximately $8.5 million on Friday, but early estimates give a slight lead to Year One. Disney/Pixar's Up continued its remarkably gradual descent, falling only 31% in its fourth week for a gross of $6.1 million (it also becomes the second 2009 movie to earn $200 million; Star Trek is the other). The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, however, is hitting the brakes much quicker than Sony would have hoped -- the subterranean thriller plunged 61% from last Friday for a fifth-place finish of $3.2 million. Neve Campbell 'in limbo for 'Scream 4'

Kevin Williamson has reportedly admitted that he is having trouble writing Scream 4 without Neve Campbell's character Sidney.

Director Wes Craven has suggested in numerous interviews that Campbell would not be returning to the horror franchise.

Williamson has recently caused speculation surrounding Campbell's return when he expressed that his writer's block was due to the actress not being involved in the project.

He said on his Twitter page: "Trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario, this sucks."

The writer has clarified that letting go of Campbell's character Sidney for the new trilogy would be very difficult.

Williamson told Pop Wrap: "I've had numerous conversations with Neve. She's a friend. Nicest girl on the planet. It just ain't workin' out and it sucks for me. It was no cameo. I'd never play Sid out that way. And I ain't got no Sid-less scenario. So, I don't know yet what to do.

"Hate all the wrong info circulating. My fault. There's a learning curve with Twitter. I gotta watch it."

Courteney Cox and David Arquette are currently the only confirmed returning cast members from the Scream series.

LaBeouf: 'Wall Street 2' will be different'

Shia LaBeouf has insisted that Oliver Stone's Wall Street 2 will be a departure from the original 1987 movie, reports say.

The actor has revealed that the sequel will be "different" and dealing with the "crime of the century".

LaBeouf told Extra: "We’re deep in prep now. We start in August… It’s definitely going to be different.

"Just the financial landscape is very different. We’re talking about the crime of the century…It’s a crime. Blatant crime…In this financial climate, it’s very relevant."

Joining LaBeouf will be Oscar winners Javier Bardem and Michael Douglas, who is reprising his role as Gordon Gekko.

Wes Craven 'suggests alternate '25/8' ending

Wes Craven has revealed plans for a different ending to 25/8, it has been reported.

The horror legend has hinted in a recent interview that he would return behind the camera to shoot additional footage for his current movie next month.

Craven told Fangoria: "We might shoot three more days in July because we have an idea for a really fun little button on the ending, and other than that we're virtually locked down editorially, so it'll be a matter of getting that new little piece together."

When asked about rumours surrounding The Hills Have Eyes 3 and the People Under The Stairs and Before The Fall remakes, the director did not deny speculation but confirmed that the projects were in development.

He said: "Those are in the early, early stages of finding the right writers and getting a studio lined up."

25/8 is tentatively scheduled for release in late 2009 or early 2010

Jolie: 'I lost out on 'Chicago' role'

Angelina Jolie has revealed that she missed the opportunity to star in 2002's Chicago, it has been reported.

The 34-year-old actress, who is currently filming the action movie Salt, has admitted that she is eager to appear in a musical and believes that she has the chops to do it.

Jolie told the Daily Star Sunday: "I lost out when they made Chicago.

"But that is the era I’m looking at and yes, I do have a good voice... well, I think so!"

Will Smith 'taking acting break'

Will Smith has decided to take a break from acting, it has emerged.

The Oscar-nominated actor has put his filmmaking career on hold to look after his family while his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith works on TNT television series Hawthorne and son Jaden Smith films Kung Fu Kid in China, reports Contactmusic.

Pinkett-Smith has confessed that her movie star husband lacks domestic abilities around the house but knows how to be a parent.

She said: "Will doesn't cook. We have other people in the house to do that stuff. But Will does do the parenting. If there are any problems, I don't have to worry because I have a partner and he has me covered.

"I am so thankful Will is home. Plus, I think when mom works it gives the kids a nice break. It gives them a minute to appreciate you and miss you. Now I hear, 'Oh, I need mom to do it. I miss you, mom'."

Columbia drops Pitt's 'Moneyball'

Brad Pitt and Steven Soderbergh's baseball drama Moneyball has been dropped by Columbia Pictures.

Studio co-chairman Amy Pascal reportedly axed the movie, which was due to start production today, after objecting to changes Soderbergh made to Steve Zallian's script, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on Michael Lewis's non-fiction book, Moneyball revolves around Oakland Athletics general manager Bill Beane, who built a successful baseball team on a shoestring budget using an advanced computer system.

Soderbergh had already cast Pitt as Beane, comic Demetri Martin as talent scout Paul De Podesta, and several baseball players in the movie. He filmed interviews with famous baseball figures to weave into the narrative, an idea that Pascal allegedly disliked because she felt it lacked emotion.

Soderbergh has since offered the Moneyball project to rival studios Warner Bros and Paramount in a bid to keep the production on track.

Alain Chabat to play 'The Dubber'

French actor Alain Chabat will star in Focus Features comedy The Dubber.

According to Variety, the project will see Chabat play a man who provides the French dubbing for a Hollywood A-lister. When the star goes missing, the dubber travels to the US to help track him down.

David Gilcreast and Jay Chandrasekhar (The Dukes Of Hazzard) wrote the script for the comedy, based on an idea by Richard Raddon and Marina Zenovich. Mark and Jay Duplass will work on a second draft for producers Chabat, Raddon and Stephanie Danan.

Chabat recently appeared as Napoleon in Night At The Museum 2.

Gibson eyes comedy 'The Goblin'

Visual effects guru Charles Gibson will make his directorial debut with The Goblin.

Gibson, an Oscar winner for Babe and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, will helm the Geoff Rodkey-penned family comedy.

The plot centres on a family who move into a new suburban home and find a grumpy goblin objecting to their presence.

"It's about creating a goblin that will appeal to audiences of all ages," producer Matt Williams told Variety.

Rodkey's previous writing credits include RV, The Shaggy Dog and Daddy Day Care.
