J.J. Abrams: 'Trek felt camp and silly'

J.J. Abrams has said that he never felt that the original Star Trek TV series gave him "a way in" to the programme.

The director of the new prequel movie told The Guardian that he was a much bigger fan of The Twilight Zone when he was younger.

Abrams said: "Star Trek always felt like a silly, campy thing. I remember appreciating it, but feeling like I didn't get it. I felt it didn't give me a way in.

"There was a captain, there was this first officer, they were talking a lot about adventures and not having them as much as I would've liked. Maybe I wasn't smart enough, maybe I wasn't old enough."

He claimed that his previously mentioned limited knowledge of the show and its movies could have been an asset when making the new picture.

Abrams said: "I didn't want to become a student of Star Trek. I felt that was actually one of the few advantages I had. I was trying to make a movie, not trying to make a Trek movie."

Bale reveals 'Terminator' rant fears

Christian Bale feared that his infamous Terminator Salvation rant would overshadow the release of the movie, he has revealed.

An audio recording of the actor losing his temper with a crew member was leaked online in February, creating a media storm.

Bale later made a public apology for his behaviour, admitting that he had "acted like a punk" and was "out of order beyond belief".

Reflecting on the row in a new interview with Access Hollywood, he commented: "You think about the numbers of days we shot on that movie - 77 days - everything going well. What's being focused on is four minutes where I behaved bad.

"I didn't want that to overshadow the hard work of everybody on the crew, in every aspect. So I felt like I had to say something."

Asked whether the incident affected his popularity, Bale replied: "I don't even think about that. I don't really have an awareness of what anybody's perception of me is, I don't like to. I like being oblivious to that because it allows me just to get on with whatever project I'm doing."

Terminator Salvation is released on June 3 in the UK.
