Rooney Mara is in talks to star as Nancy Thompson in the Nightmare On Elm Street remake.

The up-and-coming actress, who has appeared on US TV shows ER and Law & Order: SVU, will take on the role played by Heather Langenkamp in Wes Craven's 1984 original, says website Bloody Disgusting.

Jackie Earle Haley signed up to portray the new Freddy Krueger earlier this month, while Kyle Gallner and Thomas Dekker have also been tapped for roles in Samuel Bayer's reimaging of the horror classic.

A Nightmare On Elm Street will be released on April 16, 2010.

Seth Rogen has claimed that he spurned the chance to appear in a Roland Emmerich-directed blockbuster.

The comedian said that he was not interested in starring in "popcorn movies" or being a Hollywood sex symbol.

"Just the other day, I was offered a big part in the new action film by the director of The Day After Tomorrow [Roland Emmerich]," he told FHM.

"But I don't want to become the kind of superstar who parties all the time, does coke, gets drunk in a nightclub then throws up in the back of a limo.

"And the idea of me being seen as a sex symbol makes me feel sick. But whatever floats your boat."

He added: "For me, may main goal is simple as it's always been: to write the kind of comedy that me and my friends would instantly thrown down money to see. That will always be the driving force behind what I do."

Woody Allen has said that he spent the past four years making films in Europe due to high production costs in New York.

The director was speaking in his home city at the premiere of his latest film Whatever Works, which was selected to open the Tribeca Film Festival.

Allen told Reuters that he shot his previous four films in London and Barcelona.

"I do them abroad because I can't really afford to shoot in New York because it's too expensive for me," he said. "I can make the money stretch further if I'm shooting in London or shooting in Barcelona. Here it's more expensive, although I had enough money to make this particular film."

The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 22 to May 3.

Billy Ray Cyrus spoke of the pride he has for daughter Miley at the opening of Hannah Montana: The Movie.

The pair appear together in the Easter Disney blockbuster, which had its UK premiere in London last night.

Thousands of fans attended Leicester Square for the film's debut, which was attended by the father and daughter acting duo.

Billy Ray told PA: "I'm very proud of Miley. I'm proud of the film. We've got a great cast, a great crew... the fans that are here have been amazing. To see this type of support really makes it worthwhile."

The film follows Miley's alter ego returning home to Tennessee to escape her ever-increasing fame. "Getting back to Tennessee, getting back to our roots, it's kind of the heart and soul of the film," Billy Ray added.

Twilight star Kellan Lutz is in talks to join the cast of horror remake Nightmare On Elm Street.

The actor, who plays Emmett Cullen in the vampire franchise, is said to be in final negotiations to take on the role of Dean, a popular high school jock, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Lutz would join Jackie Earle Haley, who has been confirmed to star as Freddy Krueger, Smallville's Kyle Gallner and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star Thomas Dekker. Actress Rooney Mara is also thought to be in talks for the project.

Transformers director Michael Bay will produce the Samuel Bayer-helmed film, which is Scheduled for release on April 16, 2010.

Cyndi Lauper has said that she would love Britain's Got Talent hopeful Susan Boyle to join her in new film Section B.

Boyle was linked to the project earlier this week after director Darla Rae spoke out about her admiration for the singing star.

Rae admitted that she had asked Boyle to perform alongside America's Got Talent finalist Queen Emily David in the movie.

Lauper and actress Tippi Hedren are already signed up for the film.

Speaking about the possibility of teaming up with Boyle, Lauper told The Sun: "That's great, that's fantastic. I think she's a kick. I really like her.

"She stated very clearly 'I always wanted to sing in front of a large audience', and as soon as she did she said 'thank you' and left. She wasn't really interested in what they had to say.

"She did what she wanted to do and that was sing. That's what wonderful singers are like."

Matthew Macfadyen has been cast as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Russell Crowe's Robin Hood.

The British actor, whose credits include Pride And Prejudice as well as the recent Charles Dickens TV adaptation Little Dorrit, will play Sherwood Forest outlaw's nemesis in Ridley Scott's reinvention of the Robin Hood legend, reports fansite Matthew-Macfadyen.co.uk.

Crowe was initially cast in the Sheriff role in Robin Hood, but switched to play the eponymous hero when Scott reworked the script to scale back the villain's part.

"The Sheriff of Nottingham is always a kind of amusing character in most of the movies, who represents the hierarchy in the story," Scott said of the character's role earlier this year.

Alan Rickman and Robert Shaw have portrayed the Sheriff in previous movie incarnations.

Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick has admitted that he would love to play James Bond in the future.

The actor, who plays Chuck Bass in the CW drama, told Interview that he dreams of taking over the iconic role from Daniel Craig.

"Being from England and being a lad, I have to say [that I want to be] James Bond. It would be wrong of me to say anything else," Contactmusic quotes him as saying.

However, the 21-year-old is not the first star to voice his admiration for the British secret agent. Jamie Foxx, P. Diddy, Dustin Hoffman and Dancing On Ice's Ray Quinn have all confessed to wanting to play the part of 007.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner will not be in the new Daredevil film.

20th Century Fox recently announced that it plans to reboot the original movie, which spawned spinoff sequel Elektra.

According to MTV News, neither of the husband-and-wife actors will be in the proposed redo. Affleck had previously said that he would not be interested in playing a superhero again, while Garner admitted that she did not know of the studio's plan to resurrect the franchise.

Tim Rothman, a co-chairman at Fox, said that the studio hopes to secure some directorial talent for the movie.

"What it really needs is a visionary at the level of [Dark Knight director] Chris Nolan," he said. "It needs a director who has a genuine vision. We wouldn't do it just for the sake of doing it."

Earth has had the biggest opening day take for a documentary in film history.

The Disneynature production netted $4 million for its first day of release in 1,804 US cinemas, according to Variety.

The documentary, directed by Alastair Fothergill, is the first film made under the new Disney Studios division. Disneynature was formed a year ago to get the company back into the practice of making nature movies, a staple in its filmmaking catalogue since 1948's Seal Island.

The division is based in France and headed up by Jean-Francois Camilleri. It reportedly plans to build on its recent box office success with March Of The Penguins, which brought in $77.4m (£72.7m) domestically.

The highest-grossing documentary ever in the US is Fahrenheit 9/11 with $119.1 million.

Universal Pictures has halted production on Gore Verbinski’s film adaptation of BioShock due to budgetary constraints.

According to Variety, shooting the film in Los Angeles would have cost Universal $160 million (£108 million), a bill it is unwilling to foot. Alternate locations around the UK are currently being sought so filming can commence.

"We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the US to take advantage of a tax credit," Verbinski said. "We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern."

BioShock was originally released in 2007 for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, shipping over 2 million copies in its first year. Its sequel, BioShock 2, will be released later this year.

Warner Bros has reportedly won a bidding war to bring an adaptation of the Greek epic The Odyssey to the big screen.

Jonathan Liebesman has been attached to direct Odysseus, which has been scripted by Ann Peacock and will be produced by Gianni Nunnari through Hollywood Gang Productions.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Paramount was also vying for the script, which follows the hero Odysseus as he returns to his island after the Trojan War to find it under the occupation of an invading force.

"Warner Bros is the perfect studio to bring Odysseus back to his island," Nunnari said.

Jennifer Lopez is said to be angry that both she and Jennifer Aniston are making films about trying to get pregnant.

Lopez, who is returning to the big screen after taking a break to focus on music and motherhood, is involved in a movie called Plan B about a woman trying to conceive.

However, Aniston is starring in a film on the same subject called The Baster.

"The last thing J-Lo wants is to have Aniston overshadow her. There’s been some mud-slinging, with J-Lo claiming Jen took her idea," an industry source told The Mail On Sunday.

Beyonce Knowles' new movie Obsessed has romped to the top of the U.S. box office chart with opening weekend (24-26Apr09) takings of $28.5 million (£19.65 million)

The thriller stars Knowles and Idris Elba as a couple targetted by a crazed office temp, played by Heroes star Ali Larter.

Obsessed bumped 17 Again from the top spot; the Zac Efron comedy slid down to second place with earnings of $11.665 million (£8.04 million).

Fighting landed third place with $11.441 million followed by Jamie Foxx's new movie The Soloist, which managed a disappointing $9.715 million (£7.81 million).

Disney feature Earth rounded out the top five with $8.554 million (£5.89 million) - the best ever opening for a nature movie.

Zachary Quinto has revealed that he doesn't think portraying the iconic Star Trek character Spock while also starring in Heroes will adversely affect his long-term acting career.

Speaking at a press conference to promote the new Star Trek movie, Quinto stated: "I think that there’s less of a stigma attached to science fiction now than there was 40 years ago.

"I also think people's attention spans have diminished greatly in that amount of time so the notion of an actor being inextricably associated with a character they play now seems to be a little bit less of a phenomenon than maybe when Leonard [Nimoy] and Mr. Shatner took these roles and created them."

"The kind of career that I want is one of longevity and diversity," continued Quinto, "so now I begin that part of the journey and hopefully this is a platform to let me do that.

"The Heroes nature of science fiction and then Star Trek is kind of an organic progression for me as well, so I’m just glad to be part of something I am genuinely excited about and feel really proud to be a part of."

Chris Pine has revealed he studied William Shatner's performance as James Kirk before taking on the iconic role in the new Star Trek movie.

The young actor was given remastered DVDs of the original television series to watch by director J.J. Abrams and admitted: "I really found myself paying more attention to 'How could I perfect the ideal 'William Shatner as James T. Kirk' impression?', and that was not the mandate that J.J. had set forth at the beginning of this process.

"While paying homage to what was done before so you kind of have a sense of continuity between Mr. Shatner and myself, it really was time to breathe new life into these characters and give it a new fresh perspective. So I kind of abandoned that effort and I felt that I had gotten enough of the series and the world and the spirit with which Gene Roddenberry had created the series."

Pine, speaking at a Star Trek press conference in London, added that "then it was really a matter of a conversation between J.J. and I about what little nuances we could pick from Mr. Shatner’s performance to pepper in my own."

Michael Caine has confirmed that he will make a cameo in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi action project Inception.

The 76-year-old star, who has previously worked with Nolan on the Batman franchise and The Prestige, announced his "small role" in an interview last week.

"I have a little part in it, yes. Just a tiny part," he told InContention. "Chris and I are very good friends so I'll do that little part. I think I'll work about three days.

"It'll be extraordinary, wait until you see this one. I think if I say another word he's going to kill me!"

Inception is scheduled for release in July 2010. Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are among the cast.

It is Nolan's first directorial outing since last summer's The Dark Knight.

The producers of Primeval are reportedly working on a film based in the US.

The proposed movie, based on the cult series, will begin later in the US later this year, reports io9.com.

An ITV insider confirmed confirmed to DS: "Discussions are underway for a Primeval film."

The move comes after it was announced that Jason Flemyng had joined the cast of the ITV1 show as Danny Quinn.
