Les Grossman movie is "heartfelt", says writer Michael Bacall

Writer Michael Bacall has offered an update on the proposed Les Grossman movie.

It was announced in 2010 that Tom Cruise will reprise his role as the obnoxious movie boss from the film Tropic Thunder in a solo movie.

Bacall - who recently penned a script for the upcoming film - insisted that the project is still in the works.

"Paramount has the draft and I gather that they're pretty happy with it," he told Collider. "I think Tom Cruise probably has a lot of stuff on his plate right now and I think it'll be a schedule thing more than anything."

"I wrote it for R because we had precedent with Tropic Thunder," Bacall continued. "It's actually a pretty heartfelt story. I had a lot of meetings with Mr Cruise and Mr [Ben] Stiller and it was crazy, it was a blast.

"I think we came up with some really fun stuff to give you an insight into who the guy is, so I'm hopeful that that'll get up and running soon."

Bill Hader, who played Grossman's assistant in the film, confirmed last year that the project is still moving forward.

Gary Oldman at Oscars: 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy sequel possible'

Gary Oldman has revealed at the Oscars that there may be a big-screen sequel to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

The actor hinted that he could have another chance to win 'Best Actor' for playing George Smiley if John le Carré's follow-up novel Smiley's People - the third book in the 'Karla Trilogy' after Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Honourable Schoolboy - is adapted for film.

"I'm glad that [the nomination] was [for] Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and we're very proud of the film," he told BBC One's Breakfast on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair party. "But we may be doing Smiley's People, so I might get another go at it."

On losing out in the 'Best Actor' category to The Artist's Jean Dujardin, Oldman stated: "I guess there's always another time - I mean, I know why I've not been there before [collecting an Oscar], because I never really pushed it or lusted after it or never campaigned for it, so it doesn't surprise me."

Asked if he was upset about the defeat, Oldman laughed and declared: "Devastated! No, I'm fine! I had an instinct that it would probably go to the French - they've been winning everything else!"

Oldman first hinted about a possible Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy sequel back in November.

Bill Murray turns down Ghostbusters 3, sequel in "suspended animation"

Bill Murray will not be involved in the proposed Ghostbusters 3, Dan Aykroyd has confirmed.

Aykroyd, who co-wrote and starred in the previous films, told The Daily Telegraph that the project remains in "suspended animation".

He said: "The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie."

The actor went on to say that he does not resent Murray for his decision not to appear in the film, describing him as "a friend first, a colleague second". Aykroyd previously rubbished reports that his former co-star shredded the Ghostbusters 3 screenplay.

"He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it. I know we'd have a lot of fun [but] I can't be mad at him," he added.

"He's a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn't want to know."

However, Ghostbusters 3 is not officially dead. Aykroyd confirmed that there is still studio interest in the project, and assured fans that he would not agree to anything that "exploits" the series.

"We're not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I'm the cheerleader, but I'm only one voice in the matter. It's a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio," he said.

Last year, Aykroyd insisted that Ghostbusters 3 was reliant on Murray's participation.

Deadpool' must be R-rated, says Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds has said that the Deadpool solo film will have "no connection" to X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The Gavin Hood-helmed prequel introduced Reynolds as the wise-cracking mercenary, but the actor recently told IGN that the new project will be tonally different to its predecessor.

The script is, I think, fantastic. It's been developed further in the last three months or so," he said.

"The film has to be rated R and has to be done a certain way and it has to be through all these things, and I'm sure it can be a little bit worrisome for the guy who's cutting the cheques for it. If it's going to be done, it has to be done right."

Asked whether he will be reprising his role as the eponymous hero in Green Lantern in the future, Reynolds admitted to being in the dark on the prospect of a sequel to the Warner Bros blockbuster.

"I have no idea. You know, I have no idea. Those movies have huge scale budgets and those sorts of things. Personally, working in the budget world of that kind of level is not as much fun, because there's so much investment in the outcome," he added.

Deadpool, directed by Tim Miller, is scheduled for a tentative 2014 release.
