Matt Damon, Anna Paquin's long-delayed 'Margaret' gets trailer, release date

Margaret, the New York-set drama that Matt Damon finished filming six years ago, will finally get a cinema release.

Damon and Anna Paquin star in the film, which centres on a young woman who witnesses a road accident and gets caught up in the aftermath.

Oscar-nominated You Can Count on Me writer/director Kenneth Lonergan completed shooting on Margaret in 2005 but struggled to complete it in the post-production stages.

Producer Scott Rudin, Martin Scorsese's long-time editor Thelma Schoonmaker and the late Sydney Pollack all tried at various stages to help Lonergan complete the ensemble film.

Kieran Culkin, who appears in Lonergan's You Can Count on Me and Margaret, last year told Digital Spy that he had seen the movie and called it "beautiful".

Margaret has now been confirmed for a limited US theatrical release on September 30 through Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Hugh Jackman's 'Wolverine' sequel gets rewrite from 'Total Recall's Mark Bomback

Total Recall writer Mark Bomback is to rewrite the script for the forthcoming sequel to The Wolverine.

Bomback previously wrote Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer and Len Wiseman's Total Recall remake.

The Wolverine 2 sees Hugh Jackman's titular character searching for clues to his past in the Japanese underground, Variety reports.

Director James Mangold was formerly working from Christopher McQuarrie's screenplay.

Production on the film has been pushed back until next year because Jackman has signed on to Tom Hooper's adaptation of Les Miserables.

The Wolverine sequel had already suffered problems with securing shooting locations, with the initial plan to delay production until October this year.

Bomback has previously worked with Jackman on the 2008 thriller Deception.

Knight and Day director Mangold stepped in after Black Swan's Darren Aronofsky abandoned the production.

Thor 2' has no director yet, says Loki actor Tom Hiddleston

Thor 2 does not have a director yet, according to Tom Hiddleston.

The actor played Loki in director Kenneth Branagh's movie about the mythological superhero. A sequel to the film is expected to pick up the character's story at the end of the upcoming Avengers.

Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk was strongly rumoured to join Thor 2, after Branagh decided against directing in what was described as a "mutual" decision with Marvel.

Hiddleston told MTV: "I haven't [spoken to Kirk]. I also don't know that that's actually confirmed. That's not me being coy. I spoke to [Marvel president of production] Kevin Feige last week on [the Avengers] set and he said, 'Oh no, we haven't got anyone yet. We're thinking about people'.

"I think [Brian Kirk's] name is definitely in the hat, but I don't think anything is solid."

Hiddleston added of the sequel: "The great thing about Loki is there is potential in him for greatness and awfulness, for great heroism and great villainy.

"There are still, even within The Avengers, there are moments where you see within Loki a glimmer of hope and that possibility of redemption.

"I for one am championing the redemption. This isn't definitely going to happen, but I think there would be nothing more awesome than seeing Loki and Thor fight somebody side by side."

Hiddleston recently revealed that Loki would confront every single hero in The Avengers for the next film.

Denis Leary has praised his Amazing Spider-Man co-star Andrew Garfield, and has described the English actor as "terrific".

George Clooney back injury forced 'Man From U.N.C.L.E.' exit, says writer

George Clooney was forced to pull out of director Steven Soderbergh's film adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. in order to have back surgery.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. screenwriter Scott Z Burns has revealed that Clooney personally apologised for leaving the project during their recent meeting at the Venice Film Festival.

Burns told The Playlist: "George is a really fun guy and a really cool actor. I ran into George last week. He made a point of running to me and saying, 'I really, really loved your script and I just wanted to be really clear with you that I need to have back surgery and I can't do this'."

Burns continued: "I do know that [director] Steven [Soderbergh]'s plan, which he was really upfront with me about, was to shoot the action really practically, and it's going to be a really, really physically intense movie.

"I think he really enjoyed some of what he did with [his upcoming action movie] Haywire by keeping things practical and I think wants to apply that again. And from having written that character, I know that's not a thing that you would want to do if you had a bad back."

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is based on a 1960s television series which starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as international secret agents.

Clooney's next directorial effort The Ides of March opens in the US on October 7 and in the UK on October 28.

Daniel Craig's third outing as James Bond, co-starring Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Judi Dench, will open in cinemas on October 26, 2012.

Universal Gets Russell Crowe And Hugh Jackman For ‘Les Miserables,’ Sets December 7, 2012 Release

EXCLUSIVE: Universal has landed Russell Crowe to play Javert to Hugh Jackman’s Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, the live-action adaptation of the Cameron Mackintosh-produced stage musical that will be helmed by The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper. Universal has slotted the film for release on December 7, 2012, right in the center of Oscar season.

The film is produced by Working Title Films’ partners Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, along with Mackintosh and Debra Hayward. Liza Chasin is exec producer. William Nicholson wrote the script based on the classic novel and the stage play. The music is by Claude-Michel Schoenberg and Alain Boublil. Said Mackintosh: “Even though I have dreamt about making the film of Les Miserables for over 25 years, I could never have imagined that we would end up with the dream director Tom Hooper, and the dream cast of Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe as the two great protagonists Jean Valjean and Javert. Not only were they born to play these roles vocally, but they thrillingly inhabit this great score. Producing this film with Eric Fellner, Working Title and Universal Pictures is indeed a dream come true and I can’t wait to hear the people sing at my local cineplex.”

This seemed to be in the cards when 20th Century Fox pushed back Wolverine 2 until at least the spring. The delay gives Jackman a chance to make Les Miserables, a film that will likely give Universal a horse in the 2013 Oscar race, and then reprise the role he originated in X-Men.

It’s the latest lead role for Crowe, who will star alongside Mark Wahlberg in the Allen Hughes-directed Broken City, and who is also starring in Man of Steel, the Superman reboot for Warner Bros.

The Working Title team has been developing the musical with Mackintosh for some time, and it comes after they solidified a re-team with Atonement helmer Joe Wright in Anna Karenina for Focus, and they are also coming off Senna, the documentary on the Formula One racing legend that will get a major Oscar-season push and which has grossed $7.5 million worldwide. Hooper’s repped by ICM, Jackman and Crowe by WME and Nicholson by CAA.

Sin City star Jaime King has confirmed that work on a follow-up to the 2005 comic book adaptation is finally getting underway.

King, who portrayed twins Goldie and Wendy in the first film, also said that she expects to return for the sequel in some form.

"I hear so many things, between the cast and Robert [Rodriguez] and Frank [Miller], because Frank's like my brother," King revealed, according to Comic Book Movie. "They hired a new writer, an Oscar-winning writer, to work on the draft."

King was referring to the hiring of The Departed screenwriter William Monahan, who was brought in earlier this month to make final revisions to Miller's script.

"That's what I've been told, yes," King said, when asked specifically whether she will be part of the film. "I don't know for sure now, because they're having a new writer come on."
