Cheryl Cole 'to star in Hollywood movie with Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez

Cheryl Cole is in line to join a star-studded Hollywood movie alongside the likes of Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez, it has been reported.

The former X Factor star is said to be in "advanced talks" to play a talent show judge who assesses Diaz's character in upcoming film What to Expect When You're Expecting.

"This is a bit of fun for Cheryl. She will film the scenes imminently and is really looking forward to it," a source told the Daily Mail.

"It doesn't mean she suddenly wants to become an actress. It was just an opportunity that has come up while she has been having some down time and she thought it would be great fun to take part."

Cole is said to have impressed movie executives during a four-day appearance at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Chris Rock, Isla Fisher and Elizabeth Banks are all attached to star in the Lionsgate project, based on the best-selling pregnancy bible of the same name.

What to Expect When You're Expecting tells the story of six different couples who are each preparing to welcome a child. The movie follows them up to the delivery of their babies.

What to Expect When You're Expecting is due to be released on May 11, 2012.

Cole's former X Factor colleague Simon Cowell recently conceded that he was "probably" wrong to fire the Girls Aloud star from the upcoming US version of the singing competition.

Johnny Depp's 'Lone Ranger' axed by Disney

Disney has reportedly shut down production on Johnny Depp-led Western The Lone Ranger.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has allegedly been in disputes with Disney over the film's proposed budget, leading the studio to axe the project.

The Lone Ranger's estimated price tag of $200m (£122m) is said to be too much for Disney, who are instead focusing on their upcoming projects John Carter - a sci-fi adventure starring Taylor Kitsch - and Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great And Powerful, Deadline reports.

Director Gore Verbinski was also said to be concerned in light of Disney's plans to spawn a new franchise from the film.

"Gore doesn't want to budge for what he thinks a movie like this needs," a source told The Hollywood Reporter. "The fact that it's a Western is a definite concern."

The Lone Ranger was to be based on the popular 1949 television series starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels.

The Social Network star Armie Hammer was set to take on the role of the Lone Ranger himself, while Depp would have portrayed his Native American sidekick Tonto.

Depp signed on for the film in 2008 under a 'pay or play' contract, meaning that he will still receive the entirety of his fee.

The Lone Ranger was due to begin filming this fall for an expected release in December 2012

'Wonder Woman' movie with Christina Hendricks possible, says director

Nicolas Winding Refn has revealed that a Wonder Woman film is a possibility.

The Drive director claimed that studio executives have promised him he can shoot a Wonder Woman film provided his remake of Logan's Run performs well at the box office.

"I would love to make Wonder Woman," Refn said at Empire Big Screen. "And I also think that Christina Hendricks would be the perfect Wonder Woman, but Warner Bros haven't called yet."

Refn continued: "But I'm getting closer with Logan's Run. I think someone said to me in a meeting that if I get Logan's Run right, then I'll get Wonder Woman."

Refn previously named the Mad Men star as his pick for the Amazonian princess in July.

In May, NBC declined to take a pilot of Wonder Woman to series due in part to its lukewarm reception by test audiences.

Refn will reunite with Drive star Ryan Gosling for Logan's Run. Gosling has said that he and Refn do not plan to rush the remake for fear of delivering a poor film.

Logan's Run is currently slated for a 2014 release.

Zachary Quinto: 'Spock's love life could fall apart in Star Trek 2'

Zachary Quinto has said that his character Spock's love life might take a turn for the worse in the sequel to Star Trek.

The former Heroes star revealed that the events of the first film could affect Spock's relationship with Uhura (Zoe Saldana).

"I would imagine - this is just speculative - his planet's been destroyed, he feels a real imperative to rebuild his race," Quinto told io9. "But he's in love with a human. There's probably some potential conflict in that dynamic; I would not be surprised, and I would be intrigued and excited by that if that were the case."

Quinto went on to admit that he is anxious to begin filming the follow-up to 2009's Star Trek, saying that he is particularly intrigued by who the movie's antagonist will be.

"I'm interested to see what the villain situation is," Quinto said. "What are we fighting against? What is our mission? That's going to be really cool for me. I'm really excited to see the direction in which they take my character in general."

Quinto continued: "I'm excited to see when this movie takes place, in juxtaposition to when we ended the first one. Where do we pick back up? What's happened to the characters since then? My sense is, what's the dynamic like between Kirk and Spock? Is it all smooth sailing?

"I imagine that they're both so strongly willed, that there will be some continued friction... I'm just excited to read it and shoot it."

Earlier this month, JJ Abrams confessed that the next Star Trek picture still has no script or director. The Lost creator previously insisted that he did not want to rush the film for fear of delivering a sub-par story.

In July, it was announced the sequel would miss its scheduled release date of June 29, 2012.

Ron Howard's 'Dark Tower' to be revived as TV series?

Ron Howard is reportedly planning to revive his adaptation of The Dark Tower as a television series.

A proposed film version of the Stephen King fantasy series was rejected by Universal last month.

However, co-producer Brian Grazer told the New York Post that the project could still air on a traditional television network or be released via Netflix.

"[We are] trying to get outside financing to make it, and distribute it through a major [studio]," he explained.

Grazer added that any potential Dark Tower series will not enter production until 2012, due to Howard's busy schedule.

"Ron is now going to be working on the Formula One racing movie Rush about Niki Lauda, so the soonest we could do it would be June next year," he said.

Howard previously confirmed that Javier Bardem had "shown a great deal of interest" in playing the lead role in The Dark Tower.

Will Smith is reportedly being considered for the sci-fi remake Fantastic Voyage.

Industry sources have indicated that director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) has arranged a meeting with the Men in Black star in hope of signing him to the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
