Dark Knight producer Charles Roven will oversee an adaptation of Robert Stone's political thriller novel Damascus Gate.

The story centres on a journalist who uncovers a conspiracy to sabotage a historic peace agreement between Palestinians and Israelis. Screenwriter Eric Warren Singer (The International) will adapt the novel.

Roven, who will produce with Richard Suckle for Columbia, told The Hollywood Reporter that he expects the movie to be character-driven and a thriller.

"It's definitely going to have shadings of both," he said. "Anything Eric writes will have its share of complex characters."

Robert Downey Jr. has dismissed speculation that there will be a follow-up to Tropic Thunder.

Speaking to Extra, the actor suggested that it would be too challenging for a sequel to match the standard set by the original movie.

"I have a feeling that we'd still make some money but it probably wouldn't be as good," he said.

Downey has received an Oscar nomination for his role as method actor Kirk Lazurus in the hit movie, which has grossed nearly $200 million worldwide.

Last month, Tom Cruise revealed that he was working on reviving his Tropic Thunder character Les Grossman for a spinoff movie.

Noel Gallagher has compared High School Musical to drugs for young people.

Speaking to Christian O'Connell on Absolute Radio, the guitarist said that his daughter Anais is "obsessed" with the films.

Gallagher said: "I have a nine-year-old daughter who's into that rubbish. It's like aural drugs, isn't it? They get obsessed and it ain't good for them."

He added that he guessed the movies are better than the shows on in his day, such as The Magic Roundabout and Catweazle.

Gallagher was recently voted the seventh-greatest British songwriter, with Take That's Gary Barlow named the best.

The Weinstein Company has reportedly optioned the rights for a biopic of Judy Garland.

According to Variety, the company has snapped up the film rights to Gerald Clarke's definitive biography Get Happy: The Life Of Judy Garland.

The book, published in 2000, details how the actress and singer battled with personal and financial problems and mistreatment by employers, friends and family.

Garland, who made her screen debut aged seven, shot to fame in films including The Wizard Of Oz, A Star Is Born and Meet Me In St. Louis.

She died in 1969, aged 47.

Clarke's biography of author Truman Capote was the basis for the Oscar-nominated script for 2005's Capote, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Star Trek actor Chris Pine has been named ShoWest's Male Star Of Tomorrow.

The 28-year-old, who plays Captain Kirk in the forthcoming film, will accept the award in Las Vegas on April 2.

"ShoWest has a history of recognising major talents at the very earliest points in their rising careers," said co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser.

"Pine's impressive skills on the screen and stage will be sure to be showcased, with his performance as Captain Kirk, in the much anticipated release of Star Trek."

Past recipients of the honour, which recognises rising talent, have included Shia LaBeouf, Hayden Christensen, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp.

Pine's previous screen credits include Smokin' Aces and 2006's Just My Luck opposite Lindsay Lohan.

J. J. Abrams's Star Trek will open in the UK in May.

Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein have been hired to write Valentine's Day for New Line.

The love story centres on five couples of varying ages in Los Angeles who have their relationships tested on February 14, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries) is attached to direct the film with Mike Karz and Wayne Rice producing.

"On Valentine's Day there's so much more pressure on a relationship," Karz said. "A lot of the movie is about how that increases the tension."

Kohn and Silverstein are the writers behind this week's comedy He's Just Not That Into You.

Ken Nolan has been commissioned to overhaul the script for Jake Gyllenhaal's long-gestating lunar colonisation movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Black Hawk Down screenwriter will pen a new script for the untitled sci-fi action film.

Jumper director Doug Liman is attached to helm the movie.

The script has been through numerous interations, initially being written by Liman and John Hamburg. Mark Bowden (author of the Black Hawk Down book) and Dan Mazeau produced later drafts for Liman.

The untitled moon project was initially set up at DreamWorks, but Paramount retained the rights when Steven Spielberg's studio split from them in October.

The sequel to cult hit Donnie Darko will be released direct-to-DVD, according to io9.

S. Darko, which has been heavily criticised by fans of Richard Kelly's original sci-fi drama, takes place eight years after the events of the first film and follows Donnie's sister Samantha (Daviegh Chase) as she experiences strange visions while on a road trip across America.

Though it was earlier reported that Fox had secured the North American theatrical distribution rights to S. Darko, MGM has announced that it will release it on disc on April 28.

Kelly, the writer and director of the 2001 Jake Gyllenhaal film, has distanced himself from the Chris Fisher-helmed sequel.

A trailer for S. Darko will premiere at the upcoming New York Comic Con.

Robert Downey Jr. has dismissed speculation that Mickey Rourke has been cast in Iron Man 2.

The Wrestler star was rumoured to be playing Russian villain Crimson Dynamo in the eagerly anticipated follow-up to last summer's blockbuster.

Speaking to MTV, Downey denied the reports, saying: "That's actually incorrect."

However, when pressed for further information, he replied: "I can neither confirm nor deny that. Or maybe it’s some semblance of both. Here, I can tell you everything about the story except I won’t give away the ending. The nerd stuff is top-drawer security."

Rourke had previously told MTV that he would bring "everything I can bring" to a role in the superhero sequel.

Iron Man 2 is scheduled for release in 2010.

Terminator Salvation director McG has admitted that the franchise's creator James Cameron has refused to endorse his blockbuster.

McG revelaed that Cameron, who wrote and directed the first two films in the sci-fi series, declined to offer his support to the Christian Bale-led movie when they met.

"I didn't want to feel like the guy who gave birth to the Terminator is against what we're doing, so I go to see James Cameron to kiss the ring and tell him what I was trying to do," Wired quotes him as saying.

"He's cordial but says, 'I'm not going to endorse your movie. I reserve the right to hate it. But I wish you well, and if you're going to make a Terminator, I'd prefer you make a good one to a bad one'.'"

Terminator Salvation arrives in UK cinemas on June 5.

Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr have signed up for new DreamWorks animation Master Mind.

The Tropic Thunder duo will be joined by 30 Rock star Tina Fey, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Master Mind will follow the story of a supervillian who finds himself without a purpose after he kills off his heroic nemesis. Fey, Stiller and Downey Jr's roles have not been confirmed.

Scripted by Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, it is scheduled for release in November 2010.

James Bond helmer Martin Campbell is in talks to direct Warner Bros' superhero blockbuster Green Lantern, says Variety.

Based on a DC Comics character, the movie will revolve around pilot Hal Jordan as he inherits a ring wielding huge power.

Greg Berlanti, who at one point was eyed for the Lantern director's chair, wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

Green Lantern has reportedly become a top priority for the studio after a Superman Returns sequel and superhero ensemble Justice League failed to materialise.

Campbell is the director of GoldenEye, Casino Royale, the recent Antonio Banderas Zorro outings and Mel Gibson's upcoming thriller Edge Of Darkness.

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has penned a book documenting how the hit movie was made.

According to Reuters, the companion guide is based on Hardwicke's actual diary from production and will reveal details about casting, location scouting and wardrobe as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes photographs and storyboard sketches.

"With this book, I tried to show fans and future directors some of the process that the crew and I went through filming Twilight. My challenge was to translate Stephenie [Meyer]’s powerful book and make you feel what she makes you feel when you read her works," said Hardwicke in a statement.

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will release Twilight: Director's Notebook on March 17.

Last month, Hardwicke pulled out of directing the movie's eagerly-anticipated sequel New Moon.

The Golden Compass director Chris Weitz will now helm the film, scheduled for release in November.

Orlando Bloom has reportedly signed on to star in sci-fi thriller The Cross.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor will play a man seeking to cross a mysterious border, a feat which no-one else has achieved, reports Variety.

Vincent Cassel will play a security guard who is determined to thwart his attempts, while Quantum Of Solace star Olga Kurylenko has joined the cast as Bloom's love interest.

Lord Of War director Andrew Niccol will helm the project, which is reported to have a budget of around $24 million (£16.5 million).

Production is scheduled to start in Australia in July.

Jude Law has landed the role of a cross-dressing supermodel in a new movie.

The actor will star as a transvestite in Rage, a murder mystery set in New York's fashion world.

Director Sally Potter claimed that the film will be a good opportunity for Law to break free from his 'pretty boy' image.

"Jude, whose beauty has sometimes been held against him as an actor, made the courageous decision to accept the role and took on a kind of hyper-beauty for this persona, a 'female' beauty which gradually unravels as the story unfolds," she wrote on her blog.

"Strangely, the more he became a 'she', coiffed and made-up, the more naked was his performance. There was great strength in his willingness to make himself vulnerable."

The movie, which also stars Judi Dench and Lily Cole, is set over seven days and focuses on the mysterious death of a young model on the catwalk.

Happy Go Lucky star Sally Hawkins will portray a women's rights campaigner in We Want Sex, reports Variety.

Based on a true story, the Simon Curtis-directed movie will revolve around a 1968 strike at Ford's Dagenham car plant when hundreds of female workers walked out over sexual discrimination in their job performance evaluations.

The title refers to a protester's banner that was meant to read "We Want Sex Equality" but lost the last word.

Hawkins will play a woman on the strike committee, who are invited to meet then-Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson's employment secretary Barbara Castle. Imelda Staunton is in talks to play Castle.

"It's very funny and easy to relate to," said producer Stephen Wooley. "It's very much in the vein of Billy Elliot and Calendar Girls."

Jennifer Aniston has revealed that she would like to forge a career as a director.

The Friends actress said that her brief experience working behind the camera had been enjoyable and appealed to her.

Aniston helmed short Room 10, which was based on the real life story of Glamour reader Colleen Goldrick, in 2006.

"I am interested in directing," she told Us magazine. "I directed a short feature a couple of years ago with Glamour. I just really enjoyed the process.The editing was one of my favorite parts of it."

Joking about her talents as a director, she said: "I'm always a little bossy."
