Tobey Maguire will produce and possibly star in an adaptation of crime novel Good People, reports Variety.

The Spider-Man actor has secured the rights to Marcus Sakey's book through his production firm Maguire Entertainment and enlisted Kelly Masterson (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead) to write the screenplay.

The story involves a couple who get into financial difficulties after undergoing unsuccessful fertility treatments. They think that their problems are solved when they discover money in their dead tenant's apartment.

Maguire, who is also developing Robotech, Tokyo Suckerpunch and Crusaders as possible acting vehicles, has first option on the Good People leading role.

Hugh Jackman has issued a personal letter to fans, assuring them that the forthcoming Wolverine movie is not in trouble.

Speculation mounted that the X-Men prequel was facing problems after the cast and crew were recalled to Vancouver to reshoot several scenes.

However, in an email to Ain't It Cool, the Australia star dismissed speculation that studio bosses were unhappy with the original scenes.

"I wanted to reach out and let you know that due to scheduling conflicts with certain cast members and location/weather considerations, we had to wait until now to shoot a couple of scenes," he wrote.

"Please rest assured that Wolverine will be badass and hopefully meet all of your expectations. I am stoked by the positive response to the teaser, which clearly reflects the tone and scope of the film. If you like that, we've got much more in store!"

Wolverine will open in the UK later this year.

Slumdog Millionaire has broken the UK box office record for the most successful second weekend.

Following its success at the Golden Globes and BAFTA nominations, Danny Boyle's film took £2.6 million, a 44% increase on its opening weekend.

Will Smith's Seven Pounds settles for second spot, while last week's number one Role Models slips to third.

Thriller My Bloody Valentine enters at three, canine adventure Beverly Hills Chihuahua debuts at six and Mickey Rourke's Oscar-nominated The Wrestler charts at eight.

Quentin Tarantino has confirmed that he is working on a new version of revenge drama Kill Bill.

The filmmaker had originally intended the movie to be released as one complete film, but split it into two volumes due to the four-hour running time.

Tarantino told fansite Tarantino.info that he is putting together a new animated segment for the film, which will be titled Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.

"We did a whole little chapter that I wrote and designed for the animated sequence, that we never did, because we figured, back when it was gonna be one big movie, it was going to be too long, so we didn't do it," he explained.

"So when we were talking about re-releasing it, they asked is there anything you can put in, and I said no I put everything in there, but... there's one sequence that we wouldn't even have to shoot! So it's this little seven-minute sequence, it's really cool, it's in the O-Ren chapter."

The director, currently working on World War II movie Inglourious Basterds, said that the new Kill Bill cut will be similar to the one screened at the Cannes FIlm Festival in 2002.

"The version in Cannes was the way it will be, recut to be one movie, with an intermission, as supposed to two separate ones with the cliffhanger and the tags," he said. "It's more like a big '60s movie with the intermission."

Kill Bill follows Uma Thurman's The Bride as she seeks out revenge on Bill (David Carradine), the man who tried to kill her on their wedding day.

Mike Myers's The Love Guru and Paris Hilton have received the most nominations at this year's Golden Raspberry Awards.

The widely-panned Love Guru was handed seven nods ahead of the ceremony, which recognises the worst films of the previous year.

Stars Mike Myers, Jessica Alba, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celebrity Big Brother contestant Verne Troyer were all nominated for their acting, while the movie was also named in the worst picture category.

Razzies founder John Wilson explained: "This is one of those auteur-of-the-awful situations. I think people are tired of [Mike Myers] in general. He hasn't really made a good movie in quite some time."

Hilton's The Hottie And The Nottie earned nominations for worst picture, worst actress and worst screen couple, while she also picked up a worst supporting actress nod for Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Last year's big winner Eddie Murphy picked up nods for worst actor and worst screen couple for his dual roles in Meet Dave, while other worst actor nominees included Al Pacino (Righteous Kill, 88 Minutes) and Mark Wahlberg (The Happening, Max Payne).

The Office star John Krasinski has described his directorial debut as a "feminist movie".

The actor's film Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, based on collection of short stories by the late David Foster Wallace, follows a female graduate student who quizzes unlikable men for her dissertation.

Speaking at the movie's Sundance Film Festival premiere, Krasinski said: "She's basically interviewing all these guys trying to get a lot of information about what goes on and what makes men make these decisions, and you realise later that she has a romantic tie to one of them and this is more of a personal crusade rather than an academic one.

"I think at the end of the day it's a feminist movie, which I'm really proud of."

Julianne Nicholson, who plays the interviewer, said: "Did I learn that all men are bastards? No, no. I think they're all good at heart - they just sometimes can do hideous things."

Krasinski, Dominic Cooper, Christopher Meloni and Max Minghella are among the Hideous Men cast.

Judd Apatow is considering making a slasher movie, according to Superbad star Bill Hader.

Speaking to CHUD, Hader revealed that he has written a horror/comedy screenplay for the Knocked Up director, alongside SNL writer Simon Rich.

"I don't know if it's even going to get made," he said. "Judd met with us and said 'I want to do a horror movie with you. I want to see you in a slasher movie'."

Describing the script, he said: "It's partially Straw Dogs meets Halloween meets Home Alone meets Monster Squad."

Hader and Apatow have collaborated on several projects, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Pineapple Express.

Michael Sheen has revealed that he would like to portray US President Barack Obama.

The Welsh actor, who has played former Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Deal and The Queen, joked that he would be more interested in a role as Obama than reprising Blair for a third time.

Sheen referenced Robert Downey Jr. as a recent example of a white actor playing a black character on film.

"I want to play Obama!" he said. "Why would I want to play Blair? If Robert Downey Jr. can do it in Tropic Thunder then I'm ready to play Obama!"

Sheen signalled out the new President for praise, saying that his election had "re-engaged" Americans in politics.

"I think people had kind of given up on it (politics) during the Bush years and with the Iraq war," he said. "I think they now begin to feel like they have more of a say in things and may be more represented, or certainly people who didn't feel represented before maybe feel that they are now."

Sheen's new movie Frost/Nixon, which centres on TV presenter David Frost's interviews with a post-Watergate Richard Nixon, is released on Friday.

Dakota Fanning is reportedly in talks to star in the forthcoming Twilight sequel.

According to E! News, the 14-year-old has been offered the role of Volturi vampire Jane in New Moon.

"There were no auditions," said a source. "They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth."

In a casting call for the film, Jane is described as a petite blonde with a "Botticelli angel-like face".

New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, is scheduled to begin filming this spring.

Fanning's previous screen credits include War Of The Worlds, The Secret Life Of Bees and Charlotte's Web.

John August will write comic book adaptation Preacher for Sam Mendes to direct, reports Variety.

The screenwriter, who penned the Tim Burton films Corpse Bride, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and Big Fish, confirmed on his website that work on Preacher is in its infancy.

He said: "There's no release date, no cast, no locations, no nothing. I'm writing a script which could become a movie if everything lines up correctly. So here's hoping. It's a terrific project that I'm excited to be writing."

Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's 75-part Vertigo comic series, Preacher centres on Texas clergyman Jesse Custer as he becomes possessed by a supernatural creature called Genesis.

Teri Hatcher has reportedly landed her daughter Emerson a voiceover role in new movie Coraline.

According to New!, the Desperate Housewives star took her 11-year-old along to recording sessions in Portland, Oregon, where she attracted the attention of producers.

Emerson will apparently voice a firefly. Hatcher is quoted as saying: "[She] has two lines as a firefly. I'm so proud."

Dakota Fanning, Ian McShane, Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French also star in the fantasy family movie, which is based on Neil Gaiman's best-selling novel.

Warner Bros is to turn classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Tom And Jerry into a feature film.

According to Variety, the project will mix CG characters with live-action footage to show how the bickering cat and mouse first became enemies. The story throws the pair together in Chigaco where they call a truce in order to find their way home.

Warners has been spurred on to make the film after seeing Fox's similar animated animal comedy Alvin And The Chipmunks gross $360 million at the box office.

Dan Lin will produce Tom And Jerry with Eric Gravning writing the script.

The characters were created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940 and appeared in 114 shorts over the following 20 years. Legendary animator Chuck Jones produced further Tom And Jerry cartoons and a feature-length animated film was released in 1992.

The US socialite, 28, who is on the worst supporting actress shortlist for her role in Disaster Movie, said that there is "steep competition" for her award.

Tom Arnold is reportedly trying to lure Arnold Schwarzenegger into making a True Lies sequel.

The pair starred together in the 1994 action comedy directed by James Cameron, but have been unable to make a sequel due to Schwarzenegger's role as Governor of California.

Arnold has now revealed that he is urging the Terminator star to reprise his role as secret agent Harry Tasker.

"If all goes as planned, the day Arnold leaves office, we will again team with Jim Cameron and do a comedy. Jim says it might not be called True Lies II, but it will be fun," he told Starpulse.com.

"True Lies was my first real movie experience, and we've all stayed close, which I've realised, 50 films later, is very unusual. I love those guys."

Since taking office, Schwarzenegger has made just one cameo appearance in The Kid & I, which was produced by Tom Arnold and featured True Lies co-star Jamie Lee Curtis.

Hunter Parrish, Zoe Kazan and Lake Bell have joined the cast of Nancy Meyers's latest romantic comedy.

The currently untitled Universal project has previously confirmed Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin among the cast. The plot will follow Baldwin and Martin competing for Streep's affections, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Weeds star Parrish will play Streep's youngest son, while Kazan, who appears in Revolutionary Road, plays the middle child.

Bell, who recently starred in What Happens In Vegas, will play Baldwin's young wife, who is desperate to have a baby with him.

Meyers's credits include Something's Gotta Give, The Holiday, What Women Want and the Father Of The Bride franchise.

Orlando Bloom has joined the cast of Mark Ruffalo's delayed project Sympathy For Delicious.

Shooting was supposed to start in December, but Ruffalo briefly withdrew from the film following the death of his brother Scott.

The delay meant that James Franco left the cast, but Bloom is standing in as a replacement. Filming begins in LA next week.

Written by Christopher Thornton, Delicious tells the story of a paralysed DJ living on the streets of LA who develops the power to cure the sick. He then decides to use his powers to pursue his rock 'n' roll ambitions. Thornton will play the lead.

Meanwhile, Bloom is cast as a "tough-as-nails" rock frontman, while Laura Linney will play the band's manager, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tom Wilkinson and John Belushi have joined the cast of Roman Polanski's thriller The Ghost.

Based on a novel by Robert Harris, the story concerns a former British Prime Minister writing his autobiography on a remote island. When his aide drowns, the ex-PM's ghostwriter unravels a political conspiracy.

Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall, Ewan McGregor and Olivia Williams are already among the cast of the film, which at one time had Nicolas Cage attached to play the ghostwriter.

The Ghost begins production on February 4 in Berlin.
