Reynolds 'did own sword work in Wolverine'

Helmer Gavin Hood has revealed that Ryan Reynolds performed his own sword work in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The filmmaker, who directed the actor in the mutant superhero spinoff, said that Reynolds took his role as the sword-wielding Deadpool seriously after early attempts were less than stellar.

He told MTV: "His early efforts were somewhat suspect, so we were quite worried, because those swords were twirling and I thought he was going to cut his arms off. In a matter of weeks he was spinning those swords like a pro."

He added: "[Reynolds spent] the Christmas and New Year's break with the stunt co-ordinators, because in that scene with the swordplay I think there's only one shot where we used the stuntman.

"You have to do a heck of a lot of work to work on that swordplay in a very compressed period of time."

It was recently announced that Reynolds is to reprise the part for a Deadpool film.

Jessica Alba in negotiations to join 'Little Fockers'

Jessica Alba is bringing new life to the Meet the Parents trilogy as one of the first new cast members to join the third film in the franchise. The actress is in negotiations to join Little Fockers in a role the studio will only describe as one that “shakes up the relationships between the characters.” She will star alongside Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner and Owen Wilson. Paul Weitz is directing the movie with Jay Roach and Jane Rosenthal producing. John Hamburg (I Love You, Man)  rewrote the original script by Larry Stuckey.

'John Carter' adds Purefoy, Strong

James Purefoy and Mark Strong have joined the cast of Disney/Pixar's John Carter Of Mars.

The pair join Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Thomas Haden Church, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, and Polly Walker in the science fiction fantasy film, to be directed by WALL-E's Andrew Stanton.

Purefoy will play Xavarian captain Kantos Kan, while Strong has been cast as the god-like ruler of the Thems Matai Shang, says The Hollywood Reporter.

John Carter Of Mars is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs's science fiction pulp series. It follows a a Civil War veteran who is transported to Mars and becomes involved in a war between the planet's people.

Conrad's 'LA Candy' heading to big screen

The Hills star Lauren Conrad's bestseller LA Candy will become a movie, reports Variety.

Candy is inspired by Conrad's experiences on the popular MTV series. It involves 19-year-old Jane Roberts arriving in Hollywood and finding fame as a reality TV star. Conrad is plotting two more books in the Roberts series.

Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey (Twilight) are on board to produce the feature through their Temple Hill company, while Conrad will serve as an executive producer.

Bowen said: "Lauren, who became an icon in that reality show world, came to us with a structure of how to tell the story in an interesting fashion that was separate and apart from the book.

"We loved her take. Her book is an honest portrayal of what it must be like to set out to be normal, then sign on to become famous and eventually realise, wow, this isn't at all what I'd planned for myself."

Thurman to star in comedy 'Ceremony'

Uma Thurman has signed up to star in Max Winkler's romantic comedy Ceremony, reports Variety.

Thurman will play an older woman who attracts the affections of a young man (Michael Angarano) shortly before her wedding day.

Juno and Thank You For Smoking director Jason Reitman will executive produce with Dan Dubiecki.

Winkler, who recently worked on The Adventurer's Handbook with Jonah Hill, will helm the project from his own script. Shooting is scheduled to begin next month.

LAPD called to 'Green Hornet' set

The Los Angeles Police Department have been called to the set of The Green Hornet.

The superhero movie began filming earlier this month for Columbia Pictures, while it had previously been announced that its release date was pushed back from July to December of 2010.

Local law enforcement officials were summoned to the Wilshire Boulevard locale due to a bomb scare, E! reports.

Members of the film crew found a strange-looking metal object in the parking lot, which the bomb squad unit then detonated at the site.

"Everything is clear, they only found a smoke detector," a police spokesman said.

It is unknown if stars Seth Rogen or Cameron Diaz were witness to the activities.

Earlier this month, a stuntman reportedly lost control of his vehicle, which then ran into the Creative Artists Agency in Century City while filming a chase scene for the movie.

The Green Hornet will be released in cinemas on December 17, 2010.

'Halloween 3' production on hold?

Production on the third instalment of the Halloween reboot has reportedly been put on hold.

Dimension Films co-chairman Bob Weinstein had previously said that the latest cinematic outing for killer Michael Myers would employ 3D technology.

My Bloody Valentine 3D helmer Patrick Lussier was recently confirmed to replace Rob Zombie as director of the movie, scheduled to open in summer 2010.

According to Deadline Hollywood, The Weinstein Company is rushing into a November production on the horror sequel to accommodate Lussier's scheduled start date for Nicolas Cage film Drive Angry in January.

"Bob just felt it was rushing too fast," a studio insider said.

It is understood that Dimension Films will begin shooting the movie after the filmmaker's schedule is freed up.

Josh Brolin replaces Penn in 'Cartel'

Josh Brolin has been lined up to replace Sean Penn in action thriller Cartel, reports Variety.

Penn pulled out of the project in the summer when he announced that he was taking a year-long sabbatical from movies.

The Asger Leth-helmed drama centres on a man (Brolin) embroiled in the world of Mexican drug cartels who is on a mission to protect his son. It is based on the 1993 Italian film La Scorta.

Brolin's other upcoming projects include the DC Comics adaptation Jonah Hex and Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.

Shooting on Cartel begins in Mexico City in January.

Jamie Foxx boards comedy 'Due Date'

Jamie Foxx has signed up to star in Warner Bros road trip comedy Due Date, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Foxx will star alongside Robert Downey Jr, Zach Galifianakis and Eagle Eye actress Michelle Monaghan. The Hangover director Todd Phillips will direct.

The film follows the story of a high-strung father-to-be (Downey Jr) who is forced to ride with a college slacker (Galifianakis) to ensure that he makes the birth of his first child. Foxx is cast as Downey Jr's oldest friend, who once secretly dated his wife (Monaghan).

Due Date begins shooting later this autumn.

Jackman in talks for robot boxing movie

Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in futuristic boxing movie Real Steel, reports Variety.

The project, to be produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Shawn Levy, centres on a father and son training a humanoid robot to fight in the ring after boxing is outlawed for being too violent.

John Gatins is penning the script with studio DreamWorks targeting a May production start.

Levy recently helmed Night At The Museum 2 and will release Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey next April.

Tim Allen: '3D is the future for movies'

Tim Allen has revealed his belief that 3D will be the future for movies.

Speaking to DS about the re-release of the first two Toy Story movies, which utilise the technology, he joked that "anything that gives you a headache is good".

"I think 3D is the future for us in this business," he said. "Because it's going to enable the movie experience to be independent again, so we have to go to the movies."

He added: "3D is the way it's going to be. It's going to get better and better and better. It's going to be seamless and I believe it's going to be why we go back to movies."

It was recently reported that the forthcoming Toy Story 3 was filmed entirely in 3D.

Tarantino: 'Kill Bill 3 will be out in 2014'

Quentin Tarantino has revealed that a third Kill Bill movie will be out in cinemas in 2014.

Appearing on Italian talk show Parla con Me, the filmmaker admitted that he and star Uma Thurman needed a ten-year break before making another instalment in the revenge saga.

"The Bride will fight again!" he said, adding: "I have to wait a couple of years because I want ten years to pass from the second one to the third one. For two reasons - one, I think me and Uma need a ten-year break because the first one was so hard. Second, I love the character. I just really, really love her.

"I think she deserves ten years of peace! Ten years of no fighting and ten years with her child BB. I put her through a lot and I want her to have a nice peaceful life for ten years! After that, something will happen that makes her fight again."

Released in two parts in 2003 and 2004, Kill Bill followed Thurman's Bride as she seeks revenge on her old boss Bill.

Bay announces 'Transformers 3' for 2011

Michael Bay has announced a summer 2011 release date for Transformers 3.

Writing on his Shoot For The Edit website, the director revealed that work has commenced on a third instalment in the robot action franchise.

He said: "Well it's official: We have a great Transformers 3 story. The release date is now July 1st 2011. Not 2012.

"Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters."

Stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are expected to return for the third Transformers.

MGM holds on to 'Hobbit' rights

MGM has secured financing to move forward with its two-part adaptation of The Hobbit.

Recent reports surfaced claiming that the studio had been threatened with bankruptcy and needed a $170 million cash injection to continue operating through to the end of the year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cash-strapped studio has entered into a forbearance agreement with its lender group. Under the terms of the deal, MGM will forego interested payments - due for September 30, October 31, and November 30, 2009 - on its $3.5 billion debt.

The first interest payment will be made on December 15, allowing MGM to free up funds to continue with its production slate.

The Hobbit, to be directed by Guillermo del Toro and produced by Peter Jackson, is MGM's first priority. The big-budget fantasy film is expected to go into poduction in 2011.

Ellen Page: 'Drew Barrymore is inspiring'

Ellen Page has described fellow star Drew Barrymore as an inspiration.

The actress appears in Barrymore's directorial debut Whip It as roller derby skater Bliss Cavendar.

Page told Parade: "Drew has always been someone I've looked up to as inspiring. She exudes this luminous, infectious warmth and confidence, and she's just a real, sincere human being who treats everybody equally.

"I have a lot of respect for her even though I couldn't wait to kick her ass on wheels. Then I found out she could skate as well as I could. She totally nailed it."

She added: "And also she somehow managed to dazzle us with her talent as a director."

Page said that she was "lucky" to have had three months to learn how to skate but admitted that "there were days when I wasn't thrilled about going to derby practice".

Barrymore has described Page as her "muse" in making her first movie.

Bay takes another swipe at Megan Fox

Transformers director Michael Bay has told Megan Fox to "consult a doctor" before working with him again.

In a post on his Shoot For The Edit site announcing the release date for Transformers 3, Bay suggested that Fox was not prepared for the physical strains of working on the forthcoming action film.

"Megan Fox, welcome back," he wrote. "I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture.

"Please consult your Physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep.

"As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your Doctor to determine if this is right for you."

Bay and Fox have been involved in an ongoing feud stemming from Fox's comments that Bay's films offered no acting opportunities. Bay claimed that the actress is prone to saying "ridiculous things", while Fox later hit back and compared the filmmaker to Adolf Hitler.

DiCaprio's 'Inception' heads to IMAX

Christopher Nolan and Leonardo DiCaprio's science fiction thriller Inception will be released in IMAX venues.

The movie, about a corporate CEO embroiled in a blackmail scandal, will open on July 16, 2010 in conventional theatres and IMAX format. It is Nolan's third IMAX project following his Batman outings Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

"Chris Nolan and IMAX have proven to be ideally suited to each other, and we're very excited to bring them back together again for Inception," said Warner Bros president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman.

IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond added: "Chris Nolan's unique vision combined with the talents of Leonardo DiCaprio and the rest of the cast creates the kind of cinematic event that resonates very well with IMAX moviegoers."

Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger and Michael Caine also star in the film.

Weitz: 'New Moon' is guy friendly

New Moon director Chris Weitz has said that the new Twilight film will appeal to men.

Speaking to Empire, Weitz explained that male viewers will be able to identify with Taylor Lautner's character Jacob Black in this November's vampire sequel.

"There's more fighting and that should appeal to the boys," he said. "There is also a male character, Jacob, who is inherently a more viable character for most boys because he's like an ordinary guy.

"He works on cars, whereas Edward is a perfect man, and maybe he only appeals to perfect men. That makes the demographic rather small! So there's more of a way into this one - we do hope to up the male demographic!"

Lautner added that his character will suffer from "a split personality" in New Moon as he wrestles with werewolf transformations.

"The effects are going to be great on that part of the movie," said Weitz

Bruce: I want to Die before I die

BRUCE WILLIS is desperate to make a fifth Die Hard film before he keels over.

The actor started the franchise back in 1988 when he was a young and sprightly 33-year-old.

DEMI MOORE's ex said: "I would love to do another one but they better get it done soon, what with the march of time and all that.

"I'm not getting any younger."

But compared to 67-year-old Indy star HARRISON FORD and 63-year-old Rambo actor SLY STALLONE, Bruce is in his prime.

At the tender age of 55, surely he has another shot of reprising his role as John McClane.

'Friday The 13th' sequel gets release date

The sequel to the reboot of Friday The 13th has received an official release date.

The Platinum Dunes-produced remake released in cinemas earlier this year topped the US box office during its first weekend with $42m (£26m) in ticket sales.

Warner Brothers has announced that the latest instalment in the franchise is to open in cinemas on August 13, 2010, Bloody Disgusting reports.

The update will be titled Friday The 13th Part 2, although the forthcoming horror would technically be considered as the 13th film in the series.

Producer Brad Fuller earlier said that the filmmakers of the project will make the process that character Jason dispatches his victims more "clever" than in the first remake.
