Caine: 'No Johnny Depp in new 'Batman'

Michael Caine has denied reports that Johnny Depp has been cast as The Riddler in the follow-up to The Dark Knight.

The actor, who has played butler Alfred Pennyworth in the two films since Christopher Nolan rebooted the series with Batman Begins, told MTV News that the rumours were untrue.

Caine said: "Johnny Depp is great in anything, but there is no Johnny Depp in this Batman. They tell me in no uncertain terms.

"There is nobody, there's no script, there's nothing. It can't possibly be made before 2011 because Inception is such a big picture."

He joked that the producers will no longer tell him anything about the film after his previous comments about the movie.

Wentworth Miller for new 'Resident Evil'

Prison Break's Wentworth Miller will star in the fourth Resident Evil movie, say reports.

According to Blackfilm, Miller has signed for the cast of Paul W.S. Anderson's zombie project. He joins Milla Jovovich, who will reprise her role as Alice. No details about Miller's character have been confirmed.

Meanwhile, Heroes actress Ali Larter has also been lined up to return as Claire Redfield, who appeared in the third film.

Actor Boris Kodjoe revealed the casting news, and also discussed plot details for the latest big-screen adaptation of the popular computer game.

"I play the leader of the survivors in LA," he said. "Milla Jovovich's character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and... she comes across an LA jail... and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We're trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety."

Resident Evil: Afterlife is expected to be released in September 2010.

'This Is It' to launch with 25 premieres

Michael Jackson's concert film This Is It will debut with 25 premieres, Sony Pictures has announced.

The movie, made up of footage of the late King of Pop rehearsing for his final tour, will also have 15 simultaneous premieres worldwide on Tuesday, October 27.

The 6pm Los Angeles premiere will coincide with the film's 1am Wednesday launch in the UK, at Leicester Square's Odeon cinema. The film is then scheduled to open to the public on October 28 for a two-week run.

"Michael Jackson has an army of fans everywhere around the world. By rolling out this film simultaneously worldwide, we are giving audiences an incredible opportunity to join together in celebration of Michael Jackson's incredible career," said Sony's worldwide marketing and distribution chairman Jeff Blake.

New York, Rio De Janeiro, Berlin, Johannesburg and Seoul are among the cities hosting concurrent premieres, while events will be also be held in Moscow, Tokyo, Sydney and Paris.

Tickets for This Is It go on sale Sunday, September 27.

Arquette 'wants Campbell for 'Scream 4'

David Arquette has admitted that he would love his former Scream co-star Neve Campbell to appear in the upcoming fourth instalment.

Arquette (Dewey Riley) and wife Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) have already agreed to reprise their roles, although it has been rumoured that Campbell will not return as protagonist Sidney Prescott.

Speaking to Radar Online, he said: "I would love for her to come back, it'd be a bummer if she doesn't. But I also understand people's decisions.

"I haven't seen a script yet but I know Kevin's [Williamson] working on it as we speak. Hopefully we'll start shooting in the spring."

Williamson previously hinted that he might kill off Campbell's character in the movie, which will take place ten years after the events of Scream 3.

Millar addresses 'Superman' rumours

Writer Mark Millar has addressed rumours regarding his involvement with Warner Bros.' next Superman movie.

It was previously reported that the Wanted co-creator believes that his proposed screenplay for the film will not be adapted because the studio cannot afford him. However, Miller now claims that he was misquoted.

"I don't think I said they couldn't afford me now," he wrote on his messageboard. "If I did I was joking because writing Superman would be a massive payday so if I said that I was obviously laughing at the time. It's possible though as I like being glib."

A big screen adaptation of Miller's Kick Ass is currently in the works, due to premiere in April. The creator recently promised sequels to both the movie and the comic book series.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. and DC Comics were issued a mandate to produce a new Superman film by 2011, following a legal battle with the heirs of the characters' creators.

Hood: 'I'd love to direct Magneto film'

Gavin Hood has admitted that he is interested in directing X-Men spinoff film Magneto.

Batman Begins writer David Goyer was previously announced to helm the mutant superhero project that will reunite Sir Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart from the original trilogy.

However, X-Men Origins: Wolverine filmmaker Hood said that he would gladly take over the production, should that not come to pass.

He told MTV: "I think the character of Magneto is still a phenomenally interesting character. Absolutely, if I was asked I'd take an interest."

He added: "He's certainly a very interesting character - one rooted in childhood trauma and psychologically complex - and one that was superbly played by Ian McKellen.

"There are certain characters in the X-Men universe whose psychological life is strong and fascinating and complex. I think that's why they're appealing to audiences."

Hood recently revealed that filming on a sequel to Wolverine will not happen anytime soon.

Mitchell: 'I was dissected for Surrogates'

Radha Mitchell has said that she felt "dissected" on her new film Surrogates.

The Australian actress plays an FBI agent in the sci-fi movie, which centres on humans living through idealised robotic avatars.

Speaking to DS, Mitchell explained that she felt under the microscope as the filmmakers designed her artificial surrogate.

"Did I like the look of her? Yeah, that was open to discussion. What's she going to look like? What kind of hair is she going to have? Everybody had something to say about it because it's a studio movie," she remarked.

"That really was an interesting process, to be dissected on that level. You know, 'Your teeth should be whiter. Your hair should be straighter'. I guess I'd never experienced that before and that's certainly part of the process of creating a more perfected version of one's self, supposedly."

Surrogates opens in UK and US cinemas this Friday.

'Thor' cast adds Alexander, Feore

Jaimie Alexander and Colm Feore have joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh's Thor, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Alexander (Kyle XY) will play Asgardian warrior Silf, a love interest to the eponymous god of Thunder, while Feore (24) is expected to take on an antagonistic role.

Already among the cast are Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as villain Loki and Natalie Portman as nurse Jane Foster.

Thor is based on the long-running Marvel Comics series devised by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby. The movie is expected to arrive in May 2011.

'Twilight' author's 'Host' to become movie

Stephenie Meyer's first non-Twilight novel The Host will be turned into a movie, according to Variety.

Producers Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz have snapped up the screen rights to the book, which takes place in the near future and sees an alien called the Wanderer fuse with a dying woman to locate Earth's remaining humans.

Andrew Niccol will write and direct the movie. The producers were prompted to hire Niccol when they asked Meyer to name some of her favourite sci-fi films - Niccol's Gattaca and The Truman Show were in her top five.

"We wanted Stephenie to be involved in the adaptation and have her endorse and be part of the creative decisions," said Wechsler.

Coogan, The Rock join 'The Other Guys'

Steve Coogan, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson have signed up for Columbia comedy The Other Guys, according to Variety.

The movie, which will see Will Ferrell re-teaming with director Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers), is scheduled for release in August 2010.

Johnson and Jackson will play two elite cops who are envied by two desk officers, played by Ferrell and Mark Wahlbeg. Steve Coogan will play the villain.

Earlier this month, Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton and Damon Wayans Jr were also confirmed for the project.

Previously titled The B Team, McKay and writer Chris Henchy switched the title to avoid confusion with the upcoming A-Team movie.

'Highlander' remake secures 'Furious' helmer

Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin has been tapped to direct the remake of Highlander, says Variety.

The new version will flesh out the 1986 cult classic's premise, which saw the immortal Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) being mentored by Ramirez (Sean Connery) to fight for 'The Prize' - the power to rule the earth forever.

Twilight studio Summit Entertainment already has Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) writing the fantasy epic, while Neal Moritz recently came on board to produce.

The original Highlander launched four sequels and three spinoff TV shows. The most recent franchise instalment was the 2007 film Highlander: The Source.

Reynolds "on board" for 'Deadpool'

Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will star in the Marvel spinoff movie.

Reynolds portrayed the character, a smart-mouthed mercenary, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine earlier in the year, but there had been rumours that he would not reprise the role after landing the lead in competing Warner Bros/DC Comics film Green Lantern.

Writing on his Twitter page, Liefeld relayed details from a meeting with X-Men and Deadpool producer Lauren Shuler Donner, saying: "Deadpool movie checklist - DP in costume-check! Breaking 4th wall-check! Loads of killing-double check! YES! Ryan Reynolds is on board!!!"

Reynolds earlier insisted that he can still play both roles, despite a potential conflct of interest.

'Ghost Rider' sequel in the works

Columbia Pictures is moving ahead with a sequel to Nicolas Cage’s 2007 action movie Ghost Rider, reports Variety. David Goyer (Batman Begins) is said to be in early negotiations to create the story as well as supervise writers, though his spokesperson tells the publication that he hasn’t signed on yet. The sequel would be based on a Ghost Rider script that was penned by Goyer awhile ago, and Cage is expected to reprise his role as the daredevil motorcyclist-turned-supernatural-bounty-hunter.

'Twilight' star 'suffers mild injury on set'

Twilight star Jackson Rathbone has suffered a minor injury on the set of Eclipse, according to reports.

The actor, who plays Jasper Hale in the vampire saga, is reported to have sustained a mild injury while filming the third instalment in the Twilight franchise.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, a representative for Summit Entertainment said: "[He] was slightly injured yesterday during a fight scene rehearsal.

"As a precaution, he was driven to the hospital and checked out by a doctor. He's fine and is back at work on the set of Eclipse today."

Eclipse will arrive in cinemas in May 2010.

Fanning "scary as hell' in 'New Moon'

Michael Sheen has praised his New Moon co-star Dakota Fanning, branding her character "scary as hell".

The 15-year-old actress donned red contact lenses and black robes to play Volturi vampire Jane in the highly-anticipated Twilight sequel.

Speaking to MTV News, he said: "She's fantastic. She's scary as hell, but she looks so sweet. She's got a great character there. People are really going to love her."

He went on to describe his own character, Volturi leader Aro, as "very calming on the surface, very gentle and soft on the surface. But beneath, he is a psychopathic killer... He's a great character, and I had a great time doing it".

When asked whether his character would return in the future, he replied: "He doesn't appear in Eclipse. He appears again in Breaking Dawn... Who knows? Nothing has been spoken about yet."

New Moon arrives in cinemas on November 20.

Rush: 'Pirates 4 could film in spring 2010'

Geoffrey Rush has reportedly revealed that the fourth instalment in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise could film in spring 2010.

The actor, who played Captain Barbossa in the original trilogy, said that he will reprise his role in the forthcoming sequel.

He added that he has been asked to keep his schedule open for filming to possibly start as soon as next year.

He told MTV: "They're waiting for the screenplay writers to put together something that's beyond the trilogy, take it off into a new direction so that it's fresh and hopefully really interesting for an audience, that they're not going to just sausage-machine out something else, which wouldn't be so good."

However, it was previously reported that star Johnny Depp has admitted that his involvement in the franchise was in question because he made a verbal agreement to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow with Disney chairman Dick Cook, who was subsequently fired from the studio.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled for release in 2011.

'Harry Potter' stars discuss 'Deathly Hallows'

Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis has promised that fans will be happy about how Deathly Hallows, the final book in the series, has been split to create two movies. The actor, who plays Neville Longbottom in the magical franchise, told DS that the separation had been done "fantastically" and "everyone will love it".

Lewis was on London's Millennium Bridge with co-star Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) this morning to launch a competition ahead of the DVD release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Norton: 'I want Hulk to be Avengers villain'

Edward Norton has admitted that he would like to see his Incredible Hulk role cast as the villain in The Avengers.

The actor, who portrayed the titular character in the 2008 movie, previously declined to comment on reprising his part for the proposed superhero team-up project.

However, the 40-year-old has now revealed that he wants to be involved in the Marvel Comics film adaptation.

He told MTV: "He kind of was, not in the books, but in the comics there was always a tension between the rest of the superhero community and he was always this problem.

"They treat him as this problem. I don't know, I think that's a fun way to go with it."

Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier recently stated that he would like four Avengers movies to be released at the same time.

Goyer in talks to write 'Ghost Rider 2'?

David S. Goyer has reportedly opened up discussions about writing the story for a Ghost Rider sequel.

The Dark Knight scribe is said to be considering working on a second instalment of the superhero franchise for Columbia Pictures, which would also involve his supervision over other writers on the Marvel Comics venture.

Goyer's spokesperson announced that the 43-year-old has not officially signed up for the proposed project. However, the studio plans to utilise a script that he had written years ago, Variety reports.

Ghost Rider star Nicolas Cage is believed to be reprising his role from the 2007 film.

The actor said earlier that he would like Ghost Rider 2 to be a reboot rather than a sequel to the original movie.

Damon: 'Informant! script was jaw-dropping'

Matt Damon has said that he was jaw-dropped when he first read the script for his upcoming movie The Informant!.

In the Steven Soderbergh movie, the actor plays real-life ex-Archer Daniels Midland executive and whistleblower Mark Whitacre.

Damon told Parade: "Reading the book and the script, my jaw was on the floor. You can't make these things up. It was a whistleblower story unlike any I'd ever heard.

"This guy was doing these incredibly courageous things, wearing a wire and gathering all of this information about price fixing. At the same time he was embezzling money from the company he was exposing and the FBI had no idea."

He added: "The funny part is that he was a brilliant executive on the rise. But he was battling his own kind of mental health issues. He couldn't help himself.

"Even predating this whole story, he was telling people that he was adopted by a family after his parents had died in an automobile accident and none of it was true."
