About BODY OF PROOF & Episode Guides

Get away with murder? Over their dead bodies.

Body of Proof Aired From March 29, 2011 - May 28, 2013 On ABC

About the Show:
Body of Proof follows the life and career of Medical Examiner Megan Hunt, once a high-flying neurosurgeon, who now works in Philadelphia's Medical Examiner's Office after a car accident abruptly ended her neurosurgery career. As a Medical Examiner Megan applies her vast medical knowledge, keen instincts and variously charming and scalpel-like personality to the task of solving the medical mysteries of the dead and bringing the people responsible for their deaths to justice. But that's only half the show.

I love mysteries, be they criminal, medical or any other kind, but my focus as a writer has always been on strong characters. In Body of Proof I and my partner Matt Gross wanted a show that delivered both. On its surface Body of Proof is a close-ended procedural. Each week will deliver on the promise of a smart mystery ingeniously solved. But at its core, each episode is really just an excuse for us to visit Megan and the rest of our wonderful cast of characters. What do I love about Megan? She is funny and charming but also impatient and driven. She can be abrasive one moment and achingly vulnerable the next. We may not be as smart as she is, but we're not as broken as she is either. We will root for her as she takes on not only cops and killers each week but also the wreckage of her marriage and her estrangement from her young daughter Lacey. And we will experience right along with Megan her faltering early steps in what will be a series-long quest to find love, happiness and self-knowledge, a quest for which she often seems completely unequipped, but a quest on which she has an unlikely group of helpers. The dead.

Death is a fact of life. The irony is, death has brought new life to Megan Hunt. As she investigates what happened to her patients, their lives and the lessons they hold become a kind of bequest to Megan, to learn from and to apply to her own life, if she has the courage to do so. It's one thing to want to change, it's quite another to make it happen. We will enjoy watching her try.

A female jogger is found floating in the Schuylkill River. Dr. Megan Hunt teams up with her partner, medical investigator and former cop Peter Dunlop, under the watchful eye of their boss, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Kate Murphey, who is very aware of Megan's gifted but polarizing work style. Megan's colleagues, Dr. Ethan Gross and Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Curtis Brumfield, must find their own way to work alongside the new medical examiner. Megan's investigation takes her out in the field where she meets old-school cop Detective Bud Morris, who is exasperated by Megan's tenacity and bull-headedness. But his partner, Detective Samantha Baker, possesses a quiet respect for Megan's input, even if Morris doesn't. Meanwhile, as she's is trying to solve the female jogger's death, Megan has to solve a personal puzzle of her own -- what is the perfect present for her daughter's 12th birthday?

Episode 2: Letting Go

Detectives Bud Morris and Samantha Baker are ready to chalk the case up to a murder-suicide, but Megan and her team find evidence on the bodies that sends the case in an entirely different and shocking direction. Meanwhile, Peter advises Megan not to push too hard when it comes to reconnecting with her daughter, Lacey.

Episode 3: Helping Hand
During the autopsy of a young woman murdered in a seedy hotel room, Megan is shocked to discover her own special connection to the victim. Meanwhile, after learning to her surprise of some personal challenges her colleagues are dealing with, Megan realizes how much goes on around her that she's been missing, and takes a sudden interest, much to her colleagues' amusement.

Episode 4: Talking Heads
When a severed hand and foot turn up in a back alley, Megan and her team must literally piece the victim back together. Meanwhile, Megan's daughter, Lacey, gets her mother's reluctant permission to visit her at the office and film her at work as part of a video essay for Social Studies class. What Lacey learns in the process profoundly changes her view of her mother.

Episode 5: Dead Man Walking
Christina Hendricks guest stars opposite her real-life husband and "Body of Proof" regular, Geoffrey Arend. Hendricks portrays Karen Archer, the identical twin of a beautiful corpse, Jessica, whose mysterious death keeps Ethan and Curtis guessing. As Ethan's personal interest in this case deepens, Curtis begins questioning Ethan's motives. Meanwhile, Megan faces old demons when she visits her former boss at the hospital where she used to practice. A patient has died after recent surgery. Was it murder or malpractice? Megan begins to suspect the victim's doctor, but as soon as she starts ruffling feathers, the hospital stonewalls.

Episode 6: Society Hill
Megan re-enters the high society world to which she once belonged when a top magazine editor is found dead at her Chestnut Hill mansion. Megan accepts her mother's invitation to a social event with the ulterior motive of confronting a prime suspect, appalling her mother in the process. When Kate asks Ethan to investigate the only trace evidence found at the murder scene, he's surprised by her uncharacteristically upbeat and supportive attitude.

Episode 7: All in the Family

As Megan unravels the mystery of his death and who killed him, she recalls how she learned of her own father's death. Meanwhile, Peter helps Megan juggle her biggest challenge yet, taking charge of the Saturday carpool with her hard-to-impress daughter, Lacey, and her girlfriends. Also, Kate takes on a consulting role in a pro bono case with Megan's ex-husband.

Episode 8: Buried Secrets
The high-profile, hit-and-run death of a Philadelphia homicide detective hits close to home with Detective Samantha "Sam" Baker. As Megan and the team dig deeper to avenge the death of one of their own, Megan realizes how important the bond between a parent and daughter is and misses her own close relationship with her daughter. Meanwhile, Megan must go to her mother, Judge Joan Hunt, with whom she has a strained relationship, to ask for her help in the investigation.

Episode 9: Broken Home
When Nikki Parkson, a philanthropic young socialite, dies, Megan suspects foul play, despite the fact that Nikki suffered from a terminal illness. Nikki's grieving mother and brother are devastated that their attempts at a dignified funeral are halted by Megan's investigation. Frustrating Megan's team is the fact that Nikki's body holds few clues, since she was embalmed before the autopsy. Meanwhile Kate's personal life interrupts the investigation, and Lacey suspects that her parents are getting back together.
