Mel that is too funny!  And probably something I would do to procrastinate! ha  I love math jokes.  My calculus teacher gave us a paper with a whole bunch of math jokes.  I have since found a few of them...

I guess this just supports the fact that all of my friends call me a nerd.  I don't mind it though I embrace my nerdiness!

Glad you're feeling better.  Sounds like they have a great surprise in for them.  My parents had their 20th anniversary yesterday, but didn't do anything special, just dinner.  If I'd have been home I probably would have gotten my sisters to help me pull something small together for them since 20 is a big number.

I'm sure your parents will enjoy seeing all the old pictures and will really enjoy the party.  40 years...wow!  That great!

Barb you look like you're relaxed in your Meez.  Are you feeling better?

Meg, best wishes to you on your wedding day!  May it be everything you hoped it to be.  Have fun on your honeymoon!

Shinny, sounds like everything went well with your party.  It was a good thing you did for your parents.  I'm sorry you're still not feeling well.  I know what it is like to be sick at a major family event.  I have 101.5 F fever at my sister's Bat Mitzvah a few years ago.  Feel better soon.

Well, I'm off to start my first classes.  I just wanted to stop by and say Hi because I had a few extra minutes.  I'm a little worried I was placed too high in my Hebrew classes because I'm with native speakers, but I can always drop down a level if need be.

Have a nice day everyone!

Thanks for that confidence boost Shinny!  I actually am going to drop down a level because I'm in class with all the native Hebrew speakers and I could probably handle it if it were just for fun, but I am getting university credits so the level I was placed in is just too much for me to handle. There is NO English allowed in my class and since my vocabulary isn't that good it is really hard for me.  I can almost understand everything that went on in class today, but I wasn't able to participate in the discussions because I just didn't know the words to use.  I'll feel a lot more comfortable one level down.  It is sometimes really intimidting to be in class with native speakers too so I get insecure about my mistakes.

Anyway I am off to Israeli dancing, my last class of the day (and most fun )

My first day has gone very well (other than my Hebrew problem).  I found out my Zionism class takes trips every Tuesday and in a couple weeks we are having an overnight trip.  I have my other two classes tomorrow so we'll see how those go then.

Israeli dancing was the most fun =)  I haven't worked out that hard in a while (and I've been going to the gym a lot lately).  Our instructor is trying to weed out the weaklings because it is now a class of 60.  This is one class I know for sure I am keeping!  I personally love Israeli dancing because it is all about community dancing so it is a lot of circle dances and line dances and it doesn't really matter if you make a fool of yourself because the spotlight isn't on you.  Some of the boys in my class are hilarious to watch because they are so uncoordinated, but love to put their all into the dance.  It's hard not to laugh, especially when you know they are doing some things on purpose

As far as Hebrew goes, I've talked to some people and we all agree I'd do better one level lower.  Now I just have to wait it out until I can change classes next week.

So that was pretty much my day.  We can't do anything else because we are on lock down until further notice and not allowed to step two feet outside of the hostel!  I don't know if any of you heard about the Yeshiva shooting here a couple days ago, but since then there have been a bunch of threats and things are starting to get a little worse.  It's nothing major though.  Israel has spurts of bad times every now and again.  We just hope this is just one of those spurts and is not the start of something major.  I really need to go to the mall though.  I've been mooching off my roommate for a lot of things because I expected to be able to buy them.  I feel bad using her stuff, but I told her once our security alert is lifted and I can get to the mall she is welcome to use a few of my things to pay back for what I used of hers.

Our security alert was finally lifted today! =)  Now I can finally go to the mall!!!  I've had two new classes today.  One I didn't think I would like, and was considering switching out (I really wanted the other teacher), but I actually think I'm going to like it.  We are discussion some topics I am interested in so I'm staying.  My other class I had today was everything I expected it to be so that's good.  I have really great teachers which really helps make the classes better.

Well I'm off to my last class of the day:  Arab-Israeli Conflict.  Should be an interesting class as there is no shortage of information for that syllabus.  We also get to go on trips every Monday with it so you can do some on site studying.

Barb, just curious about the snorkel in your meez?  Is there a reason you are snorkeling on your couch while watching tv?

Oh no!  I agree he should have waited for the warm weather.  It must be cheaper or something to do it in the winter so he makes you all suffer.  Landlords are always so inconsiderate of their tennants (well I haven't actually had to deal with a landlord yet, but it just seems that way)!  Hope the stench goes away soon!

Barb, I'm loving your Meez!  I hope you are finding some suggestions that work.  Isn't there anything you can say/do to your landlord to make him aware of this inconvenience and inconsideration for his tenets so that this does not happen again.  Or at least make him aware that he should notify you in advance if he is going to be spreading chemicals throughout the building so you can make arrangements to stay with a friend to escape the poison.  He needs to know what he is doing is wrong, but be told politely so he doesn't take offense and just continue on in spite.

If it were me, I would write him a letter or confront him face to face and just explain to him my concerns with his actions and suggest that next time he wishes to do something in the building that creates strong fumes to notify the tenets in advance so you don't have to sit painfully through the smell.  Then I would go to the gym and convert my anger and frustration with him into something productive and overcome the urge to suckerpunch him in the face

I too want to travel to Australia!  It just seems like such a cool place to be and I have some friends who live there who I would like to visit.  I may have convinced my mom to let me go (or go as a family) sometime next year.  It would just depend on the money because a plane ticket there I'm sure is ridiculously expensive from the state!

Welcome back (even if it is only for a quick second)!  Sounds like you had a great honeymoon!  I've heard those Mexican cruises are beautiful, and especially popular honeymoon vacations!  It sounds like you are enjoying the beginning of you life as a newly married woman =)

I just popped in to say "Hi".  I just got back from an overnight trip with my Zionism class and have so much work to get done before this weekend.  This weekend is Purim, a big holiday here in Israel because it is probably one of the most fun!  You get to dress up in costumes and you are supposed to get really drunk (not that I will be, but that's the tradition).  Here in Jerusalem is one of few places in the world where the holiday is celebrated for 3 days as opposed to one =)  Well I'm off now to do some work before we kick off this holiday early tonight by watching the movie Hook and dressing up as characters from Peter Pan.  I am going to be Michael Darling (the littlest of the siblings).  All I have to do is where my pajamas and bring my teddy bear =)

TOP

You guys are too funny!  I love the Hook and Peter Pan pictures Mel The food scene is a great scene, probably my favorite scene in the movie!

Shinny, glad to hear you are sleeping better!  I have a feeling I am going to be hitting a bit of insomnia soon because this holiday is going to majorly throw off my internal clock!  It is almost 2:30 AM and I am just getting back to my room and into bed!  Although it was a fun night.  More about that later though, now I need some sleep because I am getting up early tomorrow to travel across the country for a parade (funny to think across the country is only a 50 minute drive by bus huh? )

Nighty Night Girlies!

Here it's been unusually hot these past couple of days.  We went from wearing pants and sweatshirts one day to shorts and tanktops hanging out at the springs the next.  Its been one of the coldest and hottest years for Jerusalem.  It's great weather here now, but I think the sudden change of environment has gotten me sick =(  So far it is only a small cold and I'm hoping it stays that way!

Mmmmmmm that cake looks good

Still not over my cold.  I feel like , but I'm not letting this lapse in my immune system stop me from having fun while I can (we are anticipating for the worst right now because there is a meeting of the Arab League in Damascus this weekend.  There have been rumors that Iran may be planning some kind of attack either directly or indirectly.  Fingers crossed it is only a rumor!)

Anyway this is what I will be doing tomorrow to celebrate my friends birthday. We will be celebrating all weekend!

Sounds like fun!

It ended up we weren't actually on ATVs, but Tomcars.  Still fun though!  and the sites were beautiful!  We ended up going right through the valley that my hostel is located on so we really got to see where we are living.  Take a look:

I agree with Tina, my parents had a dog when I was born that they had to give up because it bit me in the butt

I don't actually remember it (I was only a couple months old), so when my parents first told me I laughed.  I still laugh now.  It was probably not a laughing matter at the time, but I was too young to be traumatized by the experience so now its just something funny that happen to me when I was a baby
